Find the "Microsoft store" app on your laptop … you can subscribe/download from there:

You can’t really buy it on disc anymore, it’s all download. Easiest way is to get a Microsoft 365 subscription, gives you Word and Excel (plus the rest if you need them) and keeps them updated. If you only want the two, you can still buy a one-time Office licence online, but most people go the subscription route these days.

I renewed there in August. It's still €69pa for the personal sub - you can install it on up to 5 devices.

Alternatively, download one of the free alternatives that are very capable of handling MS Office files.

How did you buy office? Was there a code for a subscription that came with your new laptop??

If so you should be able to retrieve it on Microsoft when you sign up for it.

I use OpenOffice (on a Win 7 machine - even now, still more reliable than my Win10) so would opt for LibreOffice if I wanted a fresh install. But I don't need to - my ancient version of OpenOffice is more than capable of working with MS Word and Excel files that are shared with me by people paying a 2025 subscription. Right now I have half a dozen files open in Open Office as I prepare a presentation/proposition for three different audiences in two languages. Two will be exported as PDFs, three will be sent off as .ods files in case the other parties want to re-use them at their end. The last is a spreadsheet for my own ends.

I sometimes use the Google suite, but mostly it's a pain in the hole because I type fast and the upload-download lag drives me up the wall. And it's Google. And it's of no use if I don't have a stable internet connection (yeah, I know you can make documents available for offline editing, but that's a whole other headache … ) Mostly, I use Docs or Sheets only if I need to share the file with other people in real time.
