Barack Obama is calling out what he sees as “dangerous” hypocrisy from the White House.

In a post on X, the 44th president slammed ABC’s decision to “indefinitely” cut Jimmy Kimmel Live! amid threats.

Kimmel was suspended after FCC Chairman Brendan Carr threatened to withdraw ABC’s broadcasting license during an interview.

“After years of complaining about cancel culture, the current administration has taken it to a new and dangerous level by routinely threatening regulatory action against media companies unless they muzzle or fire reporters and commentators it doesn’t like,” Obama wrote.

    The Shoe?

The shoe has always been on the wrong foot. Many of the accusations of 'cancel culture' were made when the general public reacted negatively to people who were outwardly racist, or homophobic, or sexist, or supported fascism or political violence against democratic protestors, and this caused some of these people to lose some of the platform they had.

Many of those who were using a platform, to advocate for positions that essentially tried to shut down rights for others to speak or be heard, suffered drops in popularity when the public stopped supporting them. There were a small number of examples of 'the left' over reacting to fair comment that caused some over-reaction, but in most cases of 'cancel culture' it was people trying to use that as cover to spout hatred to their political base and claim any criticism of their positions was just 'woke cancel culture'

We know that many of those on the right only support free speech for their own ends. As soon as the opportunity to shut down free speech for others, immediately it has been ramped up to an extreme level and now that there are fascists in control of the US government and the entire media, freedom of speech is over in America. Only people who tow the official line will be tolerated. If you do not outwardly demonstrate that you support the Trump regime and project 2025, you will be fired, or worse, declared an 'anti-fa' terrorist and disappeared, along with millions of others who don't fit in with the white christian ethnonationalist project. (Trump has already declared he wants millions of immigrants deported, has also said he wants to revoke the citizenship and deport American born 'criminals') and now that anti-fa, a nebulous protest tactic, not an actual organisation, has been declared to be the most extreme kind of terrorist 'organisation', it opens up all of Trump's opponents to be labelled as criminals and terrorists')

Oh no. According to him, TDS is what affects people who are fixated about him in a "we dislike him" manner.

You see, if he says China are paying a trillion in tariffs, then the MAGA base will be pleased he's socking it to China and taking money from them.

Now, the rest of us can look on and see he's talking utter bollocks with stat, figures and statements pulled out of the depths of his incontinent ar5e, but he's not speaking for the benefit of normal people or simple reality.

He's speaking purely to the brain-dead but utterly loyal MAGA faithful and their precious snowflake feelings, and making them feel all warm and fuzzy is what gets him all the adulation and power, and most importantly money, that they can give him. And what really makes them super warm and extra fuzzy is Trump giving one to those nasty, non-Christian, non-white foreigners.

It doesn't matter that their farm is being repossessed or that their economy is going into recession or that their economy is becoming over-loaded with debt to the point of collapse, or the world is moving away from them, as long as Trump says something that makes them happy or does something to someone they don't like, then reality doesn't matter a jot, dear leader has done the job, he's validated their poor little feelings.

The poor crayturs, MAGA really are a weak, feeble minded, hateful lot, it's nearly unfair how easily Trump has cucked them into submission with simple boombastic bullsh!t.

I'm tempted to watch the coverage to see if some journalist asks him a "nasty" question. Is the P.M standing at another rostrum at the briefing?

If only what's in his quote below had happened to Trump when he was a TV show host, the U.S and the world would be in a healthier state and frame.

An assassination is a hell of lot more serious than cancelling someone for not using their preferred pronouns. Just one example of the trivial things the left have cancelled people over.

History is riddled with "flawed" people that did great things and as long as we view them in that context it can usually be ok to look back on the good/positive things they achieved.

I think the view is Clinton was a very good President albeit a fairly shítty person.

Trump is an even shíttier person but is also a catastrophically terrible & corrupt President.

Still waiting on your denouncement of Brian Kilmeade saying live on air that the homeless and mentally ill should just be killed..

Or is that ok with you??

Just admit it. You like fascism.

When 'pulling down statues' refers to people pulling down statues honouring people for fighting FOR the right to keep owning slaves, and you're on the side of the slave owners.

You can still see the Robert E Lee monument that was 'pulled down'
It's in a museum where it belongs, at the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia

Although, your buddy Trump will probably have the whole museum 'pulled down' soon enough because of the subject matter and you won't even raise a peep about it

He’s a clown in the same way The Joker is a clown. A highly malignant one. As he entertains the mob he may destroy the country. One odd aspect of Trump. He hardly ever laughs. That’s for the audience. It’s like he views it as a sign of weakness.

I saw trump get off his helicopter when he was at Windsor. Did they fly that air force one helicopter over in the plane or what?

Burning down cities, eh? Odd, I don't recall seeing these scenes of devastation on the news back in 2020. How did I miss that?

Who was 'cancelled' over accidentally not using someone's 'preferred pronouns'?

The pro-trump people on here are such babies. Cannot take responsibility for their own views. Claiming that they have been bullied into acting the way they act and believing the things they believe by 'the left'

It arrives along with limousines in a cargo plane before Airforce 1 touches down.

I may have thought that as a collective when it came to anything happening outside of their own country they were not the sharpest knives in the drawer, but I never imagined that there were so many of them that cannot see that Trump is pilfering their pockets with a tax dressed up as tariffs.

Not only are they the people paying his tariffs, they are throwing money at him personally buying his tatty overpriced merchandise, they are now going to give him money to get him into heaven it seems. Dull knives does not come even close.

You’ll answer this but ignore all the other posts.

    Someone is scared.

Clinton’s behaviour was terrible. He should have been censured. But all that doesn't excuse Trump’s terrible behaviour with women over a lifetime.

And his family’s crypto deals are pure larceny. I have difficulty believing this third rate script is actually happening.

    It's beyond that , it's naked corruption.

Countries and Companies are flat out paying bribes when they buy into the Trump Crypto.

I think with hindsight, Clinton's policies look worse and worse. He was every inch a neo-con Republican president imo. He was the impetus for the Democrats to move away from the left leaning, working class party of FDR. Much like Obama, he was a very capable and sincere speaker, that masked the reality of lot of his actual politics.

    Who are you talking about?

I think you are having an argument with yourself lol.

I have been mostly talking about the Charlie Kirk assassination and the unhinged left.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,201 ✭✭✭eire4

This is absolutely spot on about Clinton. He just looks good right now in hindsight given how far the US has fallen since then politically.

Kirk had "A good shot someday at being President" according to Trump!

    Great choice of words!

I'd go along with the view that Clinton did a lot of good things - he certainly was intelligent, capable, and statesmanlike. He had a certain JFK optimistic aura about him. Against that, the rampant capitalism that began its exponential rise under Reagan got a helping push along that path with Clinton's relaxing of some rules on Wall St. (I have to confess I don't know the details).

    I'm talking to you..

You are posting endlessly about how the "left" are exclusively the ones engaging in violent language but when a Fox News presenter says something so clearly and obviously awful you don't say a word.

If a "left wing" Talking head on CNN or NBC said "Can we not give them a lethal injection , just kill them?" speaking about Christians or MAGA , the screams from the right would be beyond deafening.

    The hypocrisy is staggering.
