Heading from West Clare in the morning, going to go the Blue Route via Birr and hope for the best.

I from Laois and there’s nothing wrong with going to Mountrath and driving over the mountain to Clonaslee. It’s only a 20 minute drive but you wouldn’t be far from Tullamore. I’m not sure if Kinnity would be handier but I can guarantee you’ll meet very little traffic. It’s the same road almost. Up past the mart

wouldnt go again since the greedy b@stards pushed up the cash price to make it cashless, its nothing but an overrated car boot sale anyway.

I’m after driving about 12 miles in the opposite direction to the ploughing and there’s no massive amount of traffic around Birr yet on the blue route, I thought the road would be a lot busier by now.

Had anyone seen the camper van site? I was thinking of heading down this evening if it was reasonable.

See it last night. It's behind the nursing home in mucklagh. Was a good few in it. Grass field so could get mucky.

I'm here since half 7. 25 minute drive from home into the parking. Field was cut up going parking at that time where the route in was. Site itself is dry enough so far. Doesn't seem to be fierce busy today.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Got in this morning no probs, just twenty minutes to get home. I just think the site seemed a lot more condensed from last year. Everything just felt that bit more squeezed in. Usual suspects packed. O Neil’s, mckvr and sports outlets. Decent machinery on display

Is it mucky? Wellies or dealer boots

Not mucky today anyway. Definitely no need for wellies

Conditions were ideal down there today. But show wise there is less and less for farmers in it every year,.If hurleys and exspencive chip vans are your thing its a great show.Tullamore was far better

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 6,151 ✭✭✭roosterman71

I agree with that, but seemed, to me at least, that there was more machinery and less tat than previous years. Whole show seemed smaller too and certainly wasn't as packed. I'm on the pints now in clonaslee.

Definitely more machinery this year than the last few years. Crowd must be way back - it was comfortable in most places. I enjoyed it - took my time at the farming stands and just chatted way more with the staff and really enjoyed it. After swearing I wouldn't go after Tullamore this year I'm glad I did.

    Traffic plan was bang on.

Forgot to add though - I had a parking pass so that obviously made a big difference and there did seem to be extra long ques on entry early in the morning.

    Was there much cattle there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,030 ✭✭✭Stationmaster

Angus, shorthorns, aubracs and the dairy one that I can’t spell!

The site is away smaller and with out doubt less things for farmers to see the public service have the tents with the bigger foot print strip them out and it is really small now The weather made the day and it felt there was a lot less people so it was easy to get around.

Got in and out fine, definitely thought the crowd was back. Ground was in fair order. If it rained at the site like it rained here last night things will be soft.

Saw a few interesting bits, did a deal on a drafting gate, a timed gate latch for gateways out of the field and a 50ml Philips semi automatic syringe.

Just watched a video that Grassmen put up with an ariel view. It looks to be a lot smaller than other years.

Are ye sure site is smaller, there was 78k people there yesterday and yet ye are saying it didn't feel as packed as other years...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,576 ✭✭✭Tileman

talking to someone at it it and they said no way was there 78k people at it. Felt like a 60k crowd. That’s from someone working at their stall for a number of years.
don’t know more than that. It looked smaller from their aerial photos

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,800 ✭✭✭JeffKenna

There looked to be a bad shower coming just before 3, which didn't materialise. This really emptied the site but I did find it quite busy before that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,514 ✭✭✭hopeso

With the online ticket sales, will we ever get the true number? Perhaps 78k tickets were sold, but how many never went after buying them? I'd say the weather leading up to the event put a lot off from going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 922 ✭✭✭lmk123

it was no where near as busy yesterday as other years, it was much easier to walk through and see everything, thought there was more machinery too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,079 ✭✭✭✭mfceiling

Busy enough today but not as crazy as past years in Stradbally

Asked the daughter to book tickets on the way down in the car. Because the page didn't load in a millisecond she refreshed it and doubled up the tickets. Just paid €130 to get in.

I enjoyed it yesterday. I felt it was more compacted with the stands a bit closer together but that wasn’t an issue. Bought a few items and an implement and met loads of people. Ground conditions were excellent especially the car park and really enjoyed it. Getting in and out were pretty seamless only for small delay on way in. As for the crowd I think the 78k mark sounded about right.
    well done.

So I went today (Wed), traffic grand in and out. Parked in brown car park in a stubble field. Metal tracks and stone road way all the way in and parked off that. Was onsite at 9am. Had instructions to go to'neills and Mckvr. Massive queue even in am. So left that. Had to walk full length of site to get to O'neills & Mckvr so don't even bother. Wellies a must as some areas are a bit wet. Hadn't been in a while, so def seen a big difference. A lot of bigger type contractor machinery and less machinery in general. Would def be getting a good fill on way as food is pricey there. Probably paying a big fee for their food stand. The sports areas along with Tiktok and some sort of a beauty products double decker bus and another place selling cookies were the biggest queues. Overall was happy enough with the day out. Weather was dry all day. Some stands were pretty impressive. Utv lighting had a good stand if your thinking of getting lights.
