I would like to be a fly on the wall in the room where Trump and Starmer meet over the next few days to see if birthday greeting cards are mentioned or if they just stand and stare at each other. Ditto for the King and Trump with no mention of lesser royals or ambassadors activities.

To what extent is free speech likely to survive in the US?

Is this going to go as far as the Stasi with nrighbour informing on neighbour?

Is voting likely to be rigged in the mid terms and thereafter?

Maybe "free speech" will be reinstated once the outcome of elections can be determined with certainty…

I think we are just seeing more and more, that the criticism of Trump or any of his policies or allies = an attack, so it should be silenced.

Lord, that's unbelievable, pages of rambling about TV shows mostly. The following is an example of the piffling stuff he is using as…what? Character reference?

Maybe it's just me, but you'd have thought he'd find a lawyer with literally any other surname to put their name to that

And will they succeed in this? Will the US population (and its "allies") be successfully cowed into accepting this as the new normal?

    Missed that! Well spotted.

He has instigated the lawsuit as an individual, which presumably means he has forfeited his Presidential Immunity. The defence is going to have a lovely time disputing all the stuff he has claimed in the lawsuit.

Discovery will be a goldmine for the NYT.
This is Lawfare by Trump and the actions of Paramount, ABC & CBS in settling spurious lawsuits with Trump have given him a belief that he can just roll the Media over.

A terrible precedent was set, and the media must act appropriately in resisting efforts to restrict their work and they absolutely must work to ensure that they hold whomever is in power to account.

Neither the palace nor most of the people are happy about him going - why do you think he is being helicoptered about? And why the king is giving only a 7 minute speech? And why the just chose to throw out the ambassador? It's just the government want him for largely imagined trade and defence reasons.

Such a pathetic bully - I wish someone would tell him live on TV to go and f**k off.

Ditto. At some time in the future, some one will ask him "are you threatening me?" just to catch his reaction and no Karoline to say he meant this or that.

Anyone who ever thought 'the right' were the people in favour of freedom of speech must feel like an utter tit now

I hope the Feds and the Utah State custody team securing Tyler Robinson are totally on the ball. Given the situation with memorial events being held for Kirk and the way regular TV channel hosts are ripping into each other over the remarks they make live on air, I think court proceedings should be held via camera between the secure jail and the court, with zero opportunities for people with malice in mind to exact revenge for the killing.

I began commenting here on the NY trial of the man charged with killing the Medical Insurance executive earlier but scrubbed it. His legal team asked the judge hearing that case to scrub either the Feds case or the State's case as they claim both together would amount to double jeopardy seeing as the prosecutors both want the death penalty, thinking if the judge went along with the request, Robinsons team might try to make a similar request, even though it's in Utah.

The NY judge declined the request but scrubbed the terrorism charges brought in the case.

This might sound a bit apocalyptic, and dystopian. But here goes!

My take on it is that the right don't care about arguing in good faith. They seem to be driven by fear and paranoia, seeing everyone outside their own group as dangerous, as the enemy, and they seem to feel justified in bullshitting and gaslighting their enemies as much as possible. Because they're not really trying to win an argument, they are trying to win a war of survival, or domination, against people they don't even see as human. (A callous disregard for "the other" seems to be a given.) Language to them is just another weapon against their enemies.

Whatever the topic, the right are almost never arguing in good faith. They are just muddying the waters and bullshitting while pretending to participate in polite discussion, pretending to tolerate and understand while trying to undermine, enslave or destroy.

It's dangerous to try to negotiate with some of these people. They will abuse the system, and screw everyone over. This is the M.O. of Boris Johnson, of Rees-Mogg, of Trump, of Putin, of Farage. They will say anything, while pretending to discuss in good faith, all the while whipping up hatred so they can rule by force.

They don't care that you have spotted the hypocrisy in their words, all they care about is that their followers are doing their bidding. They don't care that you can see how much they are lying, as long as their followers keep following. They seem to get a laugh out of the fact that the gullible morons are falling for it.

Unfortunately the press and the likes of X make it easier for the right to fear-monger and gaslight the gullible masses into their own subjugation.

I don't have a fix. The system seems to be too broken to be able to resist the billionaires and their fascism.

Stephen Miller's recent little speech in what seems to be a bar or club in front of Hegseth and Vance, and white uniformed military personnel about "bringing thousands of resources to Washington, getting rid of the gangs and the criminals, dismantle their networks, prove that a city can serve for its law abiding citizens, preventing the Communists from destroying a great American city, let alone the nations capital, and just one other thing, all those demonstrators you've seen out in recent days, all those elderly white hippies are and never were part of the city. and by the way most of the citizens who live in Washington DC are black. This is not a city that had any safety for its black citizens for generations" was probably what he thought was a tonic for the troops. It was good for the recording to have gotten the freedom of the press in the U.S. The fact that it has an elected black female mayor in charge of the capital's police force, again, after Congress did not renew Trump's mandate of control over the city's police force lapsed. BTW, Trump has talked about E.O-ing himself back into control of that police force.
