    He's an awful dose.

I admired him as a player back in his day, on his day he was phenomenal at times. But I could just never warm to him, even during Ryder Cup events I found it hard to back him.

the cheer when it went in the water was short and only really from the people standing on the first fairway as far as I could tell

    It’s being blown up

But he categorically was at one point….he's come through all that now and cemented himself and one of the best golfers to ever do it.

Rory out with Shane and Rambo. Not sure if that’s good or bad

Yup, had gotten a mail about priority ticket availability before it was announced.

Didn't buy any...and won't be doing so now.

Volunteered in K Klub, wont be volunteering (if its available) or anywhere near Doonbeg

Shocking decision.. have attended the Irish Open over the years.. great memories going back to Seve and Langer at Royal Dublin in the 80s..

Won't be going near Doonbeg next year..

    Money talks.

Doonbeg is a very good course, I had the pleasure of playing it a few years ago.

I'd imagine the field there will be much stronger than the diabolical one last week at the K Club, Trump will call in a few favours, could get a good few yanks and Liv guys over for it.

Sounds like tickets won't be hard to come by!

Suspect they’ll have trouble giving them away

Let's nip the whole Trump thing in the bud, this is not a Politics forum and we have a Charter so please read before posting.

Anything outside the Charter will be deleted and Warnings/Infractions.

    Thank you all

Are You the only Mod slave ?

Can the charter be changed in this context.

It seems ridiculous if the ethical issues round it at this particular location cant be discussed..whilst it will be discussed in every other area of sport shows , radio shows , media , pub chat...

I had such a good time at the k club with my son on Sunday I don't care if trump himself is playing you can put be down for tickets, fantastic day out and Rory topped it off.

It's utterly ridiculous. Tom McKibbon could be in contention coming down the stretch next year. Someone says "I hope to god he doesn't win, but I can't tell you why." And someone says "i think it should always be on a links course, but not this one" but they can't say why. And someone might go every year, but skip this one even though it's on their doorstep. But they can't say why.

The why is important. It's part of the conversation. It's relevant to golf.

makes no sense to me. In this context. The Irish open next year will inextricably linked to politics and this is a golf forum.

This is why boards is dying on its legs. It’s over modded. Not a go at you Slave, more at your masters

Is "he who can't be named" owning Turnberry not the reason it got taken off the Open Championship rota?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 22,240 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

Anyway of all.the links they could have picked ..ive been told course is rubbish?

Also im reading the soccer forum and the politics around soccer and controversial figures are spoken about ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,093 ✭✭✭Dr Turk Turkelton

Played it twice last year and it's a fantastic course, loads of twists and turns and dramatic shots throughout.

Definitely a more modern type of links but very hard and always has that West Coast wind.

Would be a great spectator links as well with plenty of open space around. Biggest issue would be transport to it as all very small seaside roads to get there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 22,240 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

Does a modern Links just sound resort ?

We literally have some of the best Links courses in the world..Portmarnock says hello Donald...

How on earth was it picked...seems political

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,093 ✭✭✭Dr Turk Turkelton

It's no resort course when your playing it!

Watched this the other night and I'm glad it wasn't just me that struggled there 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,413 ✭✭✭ger664

Great to see the Open back in Clare but Doonbeg really doesn't have the road infrastructure or local accommodation if the numbers that came to Lahinch show up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 22,240 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

It Is probably the one Links course in Ireland i will never play.

So at least watching it on TV will be something.

Made more sense to play in Portmarnock if this run to The Open Championship is real.

Surprised they're not making Adare hold a few before the Ryder cup, would have guaranteed some top players coming over to get used to the course.

One thing for sure - to not be even political.

It is unbelievably damaging to the image of golf in Ireland - and so much work has gone into making it more accessible more reflective of way sport is in Ireland - with equality and equal participation.

A serious backwards step for Irish golf - and Ireland.

Walker Cup Lahinch 1st week Sept, Irish Open Doonbeg 2nd Week Sept. Great week for Clare.

Ballybunion will jump on the coat tails as the Tarbet ferry will open accommodations and golf in that area.

I can see the visitor numbers being restricted as its a narrow course and has some fairly wild zones. I believe its near 2.5km from Club House to the far end of the course.

I had friends over from the US last year and Ballybunion + Doonbeg were their first ports of call. I joined them in Carne and then we headed to Rosapenna and Ballyliffin.

Their politics would be very blue - but they were well able to separate the chance of playing Doonbeg and politics and most people can.
