I don’t know what happened at that level. I suspect Trump would like a quiet Middle East that doesn't cause him trouble on the domestic front. I’d be surprised if he has any genuine interest in it beyond the free stuff he is given from there.

Oh you have convinced me.... it's all a witchhunt, there is no starvation, no war crimes- the child in the car was setup by Hamas. Along with the Journalists, aid workers, nuns, etc

We are all- along with a myriad of different organisations- being duped by Hamas or complicit. Keep telling yourself that- anything but admit you are excusing a state committing a litany of War Crimes. You'll keep it up, but most people viewing can see through your apologist nonsense.

There are plenty of war crimes - name me a war that didn't have any.

As for the rest, time will tell.

But I'm shocked and deeply disappointed by just how antisemitic Ireland in general has turned out to be (and no, I'm not Jewish).

I'm out of here again. This is pointless. It's not as though anything anyone says on here matters much anyway.

His spokesperson sort of criticized them but carefully. They’re not Democrats after all. Bibi has made him look weak here whatever the real discussions between them. As in any protection racket, if America can’t look after its friends any more they’ll look for somebody who will.

The US also defended the indefensible with Apartheid South Africa in the 1980s, and dismissed the then Salvadoran regimes massacre of nuns, saying they were "political activists". The Republican party have really departed from any sort of leadership on human rights.

There are plenty of war crimes - name me a war that didn't have any.

There are war crimes and there are war crimes. There's a huge difference between the illegal murder of someone in the field, which often takes place in the heat of a battle, and a state sanctioned project to ethnically cleanse a large group of people out of their homeland by starvation, wanton slaughter and deliberate spoliation of civilian infrastructure, livestock and farmland.

But I'm shocked and deeply disappointed by just how antisemitic Ireland in general has turned out to be (and no, I'm not Jewish)

No you're not. You're just a common liar.

So you're back to this defense of others having committed war crimes,so therefore Israel is excused. As you know well that's not how it works, especially for a state that claims to be a democracy that holds Western ideals. You can keep spreading erroneous slander about Ireland, but for the 100,000th time criticising Israel is not anti semitic- no more than criticising Russia' s war in Ukraine is Russia phobia- but the Russian ambassador tried to suggest our Government was- it sounds familiar!

We both know you will be lurking. You are not fooling anyone

Perhaps the condemantion is just to save face with the Qataris. As you say whatever the truth is, Bibi has made Trump look weak and ineffectual, but Donnie will never admit it.

Going after them in other countries can be a tricky business and depends on the country. Should Britain have assassinated IRA personnel in the US, for example? In Canada and the US, the Indian government has recently conducted a campaign against Sikh separatists and killed a person in Canada. Many Sikhs have been told they are still under threat from India. We are not happy about this in Canada and regard it as a gross violation of our sovereignty. If this became the norm we’d see a fair bit more chaos in the world.

Really Shocked and disappointed eh! Well I'm not even certain what antisemitic means but if it means a hatred of those fukkers who are slaughtering Palestinians then I'm one and I don't care whether they're Jews, catholics, Islamic or any other type of religious horseshit nutjob. Israel by its actions, played out on your tv every night, is a nation now on a par with Nazi Germany and has destroyed the memory of it's own holocaust victims.

Not like the mega mouthpiece to lie

Qatar's foreign ministry has just undermined a claim made by the White House press secretary.

Karoline Leavitt said US special envoy Steve Witkoff warned Qatar of the impending attack.

But Qatari spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari said reports about Qatar being informed of the attack beforehand were false.

"The communication received from one of the American officials came during the sound of explosions."

It is unusual. Off the top of my head I can’t think of a precedent in a war. As for hostage crises it reminds me of the Russian approach.

Israel has been targeting babies, women, elderly, and everyone else for 80 years. Israel holds thousands of civilians as prisoners and rapes, tortures, and murders them.

October 7 was largely committed by Israel. Israel allowed the attack so they could ethnically cleanse Gaza. Israel joined in the attack with helicopters to make sure many Israeli settlers and music fans died.

Israel is a failed state and it should be delisted by the UN.

A military force needs to go in urgently and destroy their nuclear weapons before Israel starts dropping them on all of its neighbours. This is the most urgent global need. Netanyahu and Smotrich and the others can be arrested after the nuclear weapons are destroyed.

Trump is clearly lying. There has been a repeated pattern of the US pretending to engage in peace talks and then murdering the negotiators. There was the killing of Haniyeh in Tehran in 2024. The killing of the Iranian negotiators (which Trump gloated about) during the initial days of the attack on Iran earlier this year. The killing of the Yemen prime minister last week. In 2020 the Iranian general Soleimani was assassinated by a US drone strike while on a diplomatic mission in Iraq.

After the latest pretence, the Iranians at least seem to have gotten the message by banning the IAEA and refusing any further negotiations with the US. What would be the point?

There has been a disturbing coarsening of attitudes on the part of the US too - the standards of the US military seem to have progressively fallen to the levels of the IDF, as seen in the approving attitude to murder of civilians by Navy Seals, unpunished killings of Afghan civilians during the chaotic exit in 2021, the public gloating about the bombing of a gathering of Yemeni civilians earlier this year. We're in a weird world where the ROE of Navy Seals and Hamas look a lot alike.

No, it really isn't. I hate how a very small minority in Ireland are racist bigots who brazenly lie and excuse not only murder, but mass murder, of those they dislike because it makes them feel big. I hate how they support a country who is totally dismantling international law and the rules based order (which is there to protect everyone, including those they love), as these breaches are worth it if it validates their hatred.

I hate that these liars and are willing to slander their own country for holding a perfectly moral stance, and in turn throw the worlds Jewish population under the bus for the genocidal actions of a rogue state (but hey, that's inconsequential if it supports killing those they hate).

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Hamas remaining in power in Gaza is not a basis for peace negotiations.

Until they are willing to accept this, there can be no negotiations in good faith.

As long as Donnie still gets his free plane he won't give a fcuk

But Hamas pinkie promise never to do it again 😉

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,169 ✭✭✭wildgreen

The Hamas negotiators were lured together by the American proposal. Essentially the Americans tried to murder them through its proxy Israel. This means there are no negotiations. US and Israel want ownership of Gaza and the West Bank. It will be telling about Qatar's role if there is no request for an UNSC meeting to condemn the attack.

We know from our history that colonial powers dont get to decide who leaders of independent nations are. It didn't work for Britain, in India, Kenya and Ireland. Israel is a colonial power in the post 1967 territories .

I personally despise Hamas but I also despise Likud and the other rightwing Israeli parties. I dont see much difference between them when it comes to committing atrocities, except Israel is better armed and has killed 60 times more than Hamas. As far as I am concerned Likud and the settler parties are also terrorist organisations.

I wouldn’t want to be an Al Jazeera journalist anywhere in the world right now.

And you're meant to know this how, given that the negotiators are (potentially) dead/killed on a regular basis?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,652 ✭✭✭MayoSalmon

I am surprised how weak the middle East countries are.

Saudis, Egypt, Iran etc all just seem to accept anything Israel does at this stage.

While Israel clearly has US support, Trump wouldn't be willing to heavily involve the US on the ground or even the sky.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,395 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

Except there wasn't a single Israeli inside of Gaza before the October 7th, Hamas had de facto control.

They used that opportunity to arm themselves to the teeth and then launched a war of aggression, deliberately targeting women, children, and the elderly.

They've long lost any right to dictate terms to Israel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,680 ✭✭✭fly_agaric

Well there won't be a Hamas (or similar) if Israel extirpates the Palestinians (!)

No man - no problem logic I suppose, all the rage with the big powers right up to middle of the previous century.

When you follow the news you do start to believe we are heading back into that world sadly, with the "Jewish state" ironically right in the vanguard leading the charge.

You seem very confused Francie. Israel is the aggressor and the state causing genocide. They created Hamas. Netanyahu funded them. Start reading up on it.

When did Israel ever show any regard for International law or diplomacy ? Israel is a rogue state, a Pariah.
