The last two winters I bought Hayes Tiger Lady Anthracite, the cinders are really good for getting the stove going the next morning too. I've not seen any reference on here to people using anthracite in their stoves, is not a good fuel compared to what others are using?

Anthracite is the best coal you can get. Not many using it as this is the "good deal on coal" thread and anthracite can seem pricey. Probably not in the long run. Would be good if suppliers could put a calorific value on their coal then we would know exactly which one was the best.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Have burned ovoids for the last few years and was going to give anthracite a go this year I've never used it before is it worth the extra cost

First check if your stove manufacturer says their stove will burn anthracite. I does burn hotter than normal coal but probably not hotter than the pet coke nuggets most of us burn.

I just moved some of last years bags to make room for the new ones & some have rotted. Very annoying to find coal spilling everywhere

I have recently seen on Facebook that ECO Glow green bags are now certified with the “Ready to Burn” number MSF0302. According to government information, the product composition is as follows:

    • Anthracite: approximately 25–40%
    • Petroleum Coke: approximately 60–75%
    • Organic binder: balance of weight

It is important to note that the product does not contain bituminous coal, which is typically present in most smokeless fuels. To my knowledge, the only other comparable product without bituminous coal is CPL Supertherm.

So it could be hard to light.

I burn largr Welsh Anthracite on my boiler stove for the central heating, and I would not use anything else. I think many people avoid it because it can be harder to light and more expensive than manufactured smokeless coal. However, I find anthracite lasts much longer, so it should work out more value for money.

Tiger Lady Anthracite. Is Anthracite and pet coke. mix together All stove manufactures say do not use pet coke in stove

you can purchase Anthracite on his own. But it will be harder to light because there no pet coke to help it.

At present, Click Coal offers the best price I’ve seen at €750 for 50 x 20kg bags for Welsh anthracite

I always try to keep bags of the floor on pallet to stop the bag rotting away. I hope the stuff inside was to OK to burn.

Burns fine even when wet. Is there a ready to burn number for Eco Stove ? They changed it last year & it's even better than before

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 300 ✭✭Lancashire-lad

did you not try to return the pallet. They should pay for it to be collected. Because they did not supply what you order.

Hi there is no Ready to Burn number for ECO Stove red bag

Thanks for that info, Lancashire-lad. I wonder now if Tiger Lady always had the petcoke in, I noticed "petcoke" on the description for the first time when I was thinking about re-ordering it last week. I thought it was a lot easier to light last year, than the previous batch too. I think I'll give that Anthracite you linked to a go. I've got about 17 bags of the Tiger Lady left from last year, so I could mix it.

Nearly all the nuggets ovoids contain pet coke so hare do avoid using it in a stove.

About to order eco stove but is smokeless coal express the cheapest at £459 a tonne inc delivery or anyone gotten it cheaper?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,092 ✭✭✭✭Discodog

SCE are an excellent company. Ordered Wednesday, delivered today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 300 ✭✭Lancashire-lad

Hi this company is cheap they charge €495, which roughly £429. So they are cheap than smokeless coal express at £459.00 it look like they will send you 40kg bags from the photo. Which are not good for your back

I am not recommended them because I have not used them myself. I am just telling you what a quick goggles serch found.

Thanks for that, price seems cheap, they are charging €9.90 for both the eco glow and eco stove, usually the eco stove is more expensive

Anyone else bought from them before?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,802 ✭✭✭wassie

Cheaper still if you pay in sterling - £409 (~€471) incl delivery.

Same price for both ecoglow (green) and ecostove (red).

There is absolutely no information about the company other than a phone number. Seems to be a small farm based reseller based outside of Craigavon, which may explain cheap prices.

    Anyone purchased from them?

Not great reviews a couple of posts back, think someone said they ordered the red bag twice and got different coal every time it was delivered

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 232 ✭✭TTTT

I repeat that they don't sell it! They will send you a different product.

I am going to go back to Smokeless coal express this year for the sake of €30

A ton of coal isn't something you want to go wrong. I have used SCE three times & it's always been good.

Has anyone got a tonne pallet of coal delivered to Cork this year? I have ordered 1 tonne of supertherm from McGeough's for the past two years but last year it was extremely difficult to get a courier to delivery to Cork (1 tonne pallet). I am looking to order again from McGeough's this week and searching for courier options please.

When you pulled them up on it what was their reply?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,802 ✭✭✭wassie

Thanks for that and apologies for missing that earlier!

When the wagon arrive before he get the pallet of the back of wagon

You can ask the driver to check what’s on the pallet by making a small tear in the plastic wrapping on top. If the contents don’t match what you ordered, please refuse the delivery.

Also, ask the driver to take a photo with his work phone, and make sure you take one on your own phone too. Don’t forget to take a picture of the wagon’s registration plate as well.

Then ring straight away in front of the drive.

So they know there delivery his being returning to them.

After all when we are buy coal we to have consumer rights.

I phoned the guy. Pretty sure he was in the Republic. Possibly Wexford so not sure how that gig worked. He told me that he was in the coal game a long time blah blah blah. Try the coal etc. There was no hint of a replacement.

So I tried it and it was good so no drama but I was not happy.

The 2nd time :) I emailed ahead to ensure they sent me the correct coal (EcoStove) but they sent me the same stuff again!

I was at work the first time and the pallet was covered with black plastic. Also after 10 years of ordering off different suppliers (Dandy's, LCC, Hayes, SmokelessExpess) and always receiving the correct coal I didn't give it a second thought.

I got a price for loose Anthracite out of Welsh mine back in 2022 at the height of the record coals prices, and they quoted 450 a ton loose. Surely todays loose price would be way cheaper when coal is trading at a 3rd of the price today..

I must email them and get a price
