Nope. Nope. No way. Absolutely not.

F*ck the remake of MGS3. It's an absolute travesty. They completely ballsed it up.

The insanely long ladder after you beat The End where the a cappella version of Snake Eater is sung... is too short. Either that or they increased Snake's climbing speed. If you keep climbing without stopping, the Snake Eater song won't have finished by the time you reach the top, it'll still need another few seconds. It used to be timed to absolute perfection; just as you reach the top you'd get the whispery "Snake eateerrr...." Now you're already at the top for the few seconds before that. I mean it was already annoying me that the song and vocals were re-recorded anyway and she hits some notes differently, but this is too much....

    Art is dead.

I'm not gonna lie, that annoys me more than I realised it would. That's exactly the kind of thing that remasters need to be careful about because you KNOW they designed that to happen in that way!

Just rediscovering the 3DS's worst feature. The reflective screen that gives a very unflattering view of your chin when the screen goes black....

Only played through the opening stage, but yeh the new Shinobi is the real deal. Immediately on its wavelength - a lot of effort gone into making it cool as **** to blitz through the stages as Joe, including an 'execution' system that remins me a little of the glory kill system in Doom.

    Look wonderful in motion.

    Finished MGS Delta.

Overall, they did a great job with it. It plays just like the original, and most of the QoL features work really well. The only small issues it can cause is that the camera can be a hindrance when you're in tighter spaces (particularly the few indoor areas).

I'd still consider the original to be the better version as it just feels right, but if someone hadn't played the original (or not for a very long time) and they asked which version they should play, I'd have no hesitation in recommending this version. There's nothing wrong with it (ladder length aside), and by almost every real metric it's the exact same game with a hell of a polish.

I won't recognize it as MGS2 without that piss filter.

Cashgrab remakes coasting off of a name being an insult to the original as usual

Fired it up on PC last night having never played a MGS game in my life. 30-40 minutes in and it's a nope from me, feels very much like a 20 year old game with a coat of polish on it.

I played the Resident Evil 4 remake when it came out in the same circumstances (never played a RE game) and that felt old from a plot/dialogue/voice acting perspective but everything else was updated, this just feels old everywhere. As soon as I saw Snake move (after sitting through God knows how many cutscenes) I thought this probably wasn't going to be my thing given there's zero nostalgia in it for me

I'd keep at it. Good games don't get bad with age and are always good and mgs3 is one of the best. I will say that the one flaw with MGS3 is that it takes about 2 hours to get going. The opening takes a while to play out but there comes a point when the cutscenes stop and the game lets you play it and have fun and that's when it clicks how good it is.

I'd echo Retro in that its a very slow start to the game and very tutorially, but once it starts to open up you're given a lot of freedom and some of the ways you can play the game are incredible. It can really keep you on your toes.

Yes, it's a reskin of a 20 year old game (literally in many respects, as I believe the original coding for MGS3 is still in the game files), and the updated graphics really highlight issues with other areas. Going from stand-crouch-prone-crouch-stand is very slow in particular, and that's an area where the game has been updated because there was no crouch-walking in the original. It's also easier to do CQC, better shooting options (third-person shooting view), and the controls/menus in general are better. But realistically going further than that would have made the game too easy, and at that point you would need to completely redesign most of the game like the RE remakes.

It is definitely mostly a reskin of a 20 year old game (one of the greatest games of all time and in my opinion a few years ahead of its time anyway), but if you've bought it already, I do recommend sticking with it for another while. I do admit I have a lot of nostalgia for the game (it's genuinely my favourite game of all time), but once you do get used to its systems and get past that feeling of how old the design of the game itself is underneath, there's so much to love about the game itself when you embrace the weirdness (and it can get very weird...)

Story about how Saints Row reboot was completely different, tone would have been 80% SR 2 and 20% SR 3. The original crew back to takeover the new setting with features i think all SR fans actually wanted. THQ Nordic got them to rewrite the story twice and when it flopped, blamed the devs and shut them down 😩

Gave Lost Soul Aside a good few hours, but it needs more time in the oven. For what it is, its quite well made for a solo to team of 50 amateurs. There's nothing broken with it, just that each bit doesnt fit well together. Its missing direction. All actions outside of combat are stitched together. I didn't experience any open world, more like large levels, but the vast majority of them are empty, just to channel you a prearranged route towards a boss battle.

The English VA was atrocious, so I changed to Japanese, which may also be terrible but it doesnt sound it to me, no worse than an anime anyway. Story is meh, a reason to keep going and it just about services that. Graphics range from really good to grand. Usual guff really, overly complicated simple story. Collectibles for the sake of it, but mostly seems to be money to upgrade.

The combat was always meant to be the meat, and you can tell thats where most the effort went. I only got to the second type of weapon, but I know it'll start to really come into itself the more you unlock. Combat is not hard, quite button mashy if you're that way inclined, but there is a rhythm to it, and like I read ages back, anyone will be able to play it, but not many will make it look fluid. They want you to win, even going so far as to give you charms to make combat easier the more you die (50% less damage, deal 30% more). They want you using all the moves and making it flashy, which there is massive scope for. I assume Souls fans won't like it, too easy and something something bad boss battles, I try not to listen to them...

Its an action game, but it needs more time. I'll put it down for now but will definitely pick it up again down the line once they've polished it up a little.

Now, back to Coral Island, I only have 60 hours put in over the last 2 weeks......

Hell Is Us seems to be getting decent reception and reviews. Seems like an interesting game. I'm actually nearly tempted to go for it rather than Silksong, maybe play Silksong later.

I'm hoping team cherry learn from the mistakes of hollow Knight and make a leaning better game so I think I'll be jumping on that.

Kind of insane that we got ninja gaiden, Shinobi and silksong within a few weeks.

Anyone played The Herdling yet on Gamepass? Basically a shepard of mammoths through a slightly dystopian world, mainly beautiful countryside. Super relaxing and satisfying, just what my head needs right now.

Also working through Mafia Old Country, fairly heavy on the story but also some cool action set pieces too. And story is very well done in old school mafia style

That herding game sounds like EXACTLY what I'm looking for right now

Sounds very therapeutic all right. I'll add it to my wishlist on DekuDeals.

Currently not playing anything as I've loads of other real life stuff to sort out. 🙄

Said I'd have a quick game of Madden 26. Saw that they added 'Dublin Stadium' in the latest update, along with Wembley and Bernabeu, so had to give Dublin Stadium a try. Shown below from 3.40 in the video.

What f*cking stadium in Dublin is that?

Silksong supposed to be available on PC Game Pass as of half an hour ago, but it is not coming up in search results and the web page shows an error. Wonder if it is caused by a very large number of people trying to download it, though I imagine that would be mitigated by its relatively small file size, and it is hardly the first eagerly anticipated game they have published.

Similar on PS5; only showing up as Wishlist with no option to buy.

Steam crashing and other stores can't handle demand according to techradar.

Looks to be unavailable to download on GamePass too. Demand too high i reckon. Try again later

Can't believe you suckers actually thought Silksong was coming out today….

Konami seem to be very confident about Silent Hill f. Gave journos a 5 hour demo and digital foundry is reporting it's 60 fps on PS5 while on PC it's a UE5 game with no performance issues (they might have pre-compiled the shaders but hopefully it's a good sign).

Silksong downloading for me now, under x-box PC Game Pass.

I am going to have to return to Hollow Knight. Maybe with a guide to get me past the lumpy bits.

Is it pretty much the same on Switch as PS4/5 ? Is there a 120 FPS version available ?
