Make sure the APN settings are exactly like this, then reboot the phone.

Ported on time and promptly today and sim sprung into life. Happy so far, haven't noticed edge and have gotten a few high speeds too.

Q, do I use clear or vf apn as both are listed.

Both work at home but I think you need the Clear one if roaming, at least that's what they say.

In France at the moment. I’m on Vodafone and works perfectly. Herself is on Clear and currently not receiving calls but can make calls.

    EDIT : Now working again.

interestingly wifi calling works for her in France.

Similar experience in France also. Clear was switching constantly between 3G, 4G & 5G.

    VF was stable at 5G.

Are data speeds still restricted with clear, I remember when they first launched they had a 5mb restriction or something like that anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,453 ✭✭✭NotShero

Nope, no speed limit now. It started out at 5Mb/s, then It went to around 85Mb/s a few months ago and now recently they removed that also.

I'm pulling down nearly a gig in a speed test in urban areas so yes, cap is gone.

What way to Clear operate their billing cycles, I am currently with GoMo on the original 9.99 plan and their billing is each calendar month, I am thinking of trying out Clear for a month or so and thinking, am i as well to wait till after the first of the month to sign up or does it make a difference. I see they currently have a first month free offer running.

In Italy at the moment. Both Clear and Vodafone phones working flawlessly . Both have VoLTE here.

Runs month to month on the day you registered. Here is a referral if you need.

I'm currently back in Ireland from the UK for the weekend. I'm roaming on Vodafone Ireland and my Dad is on Clear. I'm getting much more respectable download speeds on my phone than his (both are poor as very rural, 28mbps for me and 9 for him).

Is this just down to different phones or anything I could be doing wrong? Tried both Vodafone and Clear APNs.

This was our experience in France.

MVNOs (Mobile Virtual Network Operators) generally have lower data priority than the actual network operator's own subscribers, especially during roaming. This is because roaming agreements often prioritize the host network's users.

Additionally, some roaming agreements for MVNOs may not include access to the latest network technologies, such as 5G, or may have data speed caps, leading to a slower experience.

Excuse my ignorance but I'm lost. If you're a clear customer, how are u roaming in Ireland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 102 ✭✭Seanh111

Sorry if I wasn't clear (pardon the pun). I'm over from the UK for the weekend so roaming on Vodafone. My Dad lives in Ireland and is on Clear so just comparing the speeds.

Interestingly I also have a WiFi dongle on Vodafone which is also getting better speeds than his phone on Clear but perhaps it is just a MVNO reason.

What phones do you have? Some phones like the Google Pixel series have terrible modems in comparison to Samsung flagships.

Thanks for the AI written comment that doesn't show your actual experience but instead is just a statement? I had no issues bar getting the initial connection while roaming abroad by fiddling with the APNs, but I had full 5G speeds and VoLTE.

I actually have a Pixel 8 and my Dad a Samsung Galaxy XCover 5.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 770 ✭✭✭pfftdetail

The Pixel 8 is a 2023 flagship, the Galaxy XCover5 is a 2021 rugged phone, it probably has a worse modem.

I misread the post and responded assuming the poster was roaming outside of Ireland. But that was my actual experience

But shure, you dont like a post and so it must be AI posted.

Ah you got me…..becauze of a typo.

By the way, my info came form a mate who is an teclo engineer after I asked him why we had such differences experiences in roaming with VF, Clear & Roaming a couple of weeks ago in France (unlike your 'perfect' roaming record). I must check to make sure he is an actual human. Very hard to tell these days….

Ah yeah, your mate the teclo engineer, the one that works at Clear Mobile, I know him, old Donnie McHugh, good lad.

Reviews of clear mobile are shocking to say the least on trustpilot, i signed up today requesting a new number in the hope of porting over my number after trying out the network, is this still going to be possible, some of the reviews seem to indicate it may not me?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,453 ✭✭✭NotShero

No unfortunately it’s not, unless you are currently on Vodafone afaik.

People mainly go on Trustpilot to complain so it’s a bit skewed that way, all of the providers have bad ratings on it.

Customer Support will give you a refund if you contact them and make a new order, you’ll have to select to port your number at the time of ordering.

I switched to clear last week (eventually, the porting took ages due to an error in my part in selecting the date and them not being able to change it) and so far for me in Cork the coverage is definitely better and stronger than my old network of eir.

Speed-wise, haven't noticed any difference when I have coverage but that was never an issue for me. So far, I'm pleased.
