I know well it's not incompetence, my point is even someone as blinkered as velvet cake man would have to conclude if it's purely all down to mistakes then the IDF is wholly incompetent. Of course he knows full well that it's not down to incompetence at all. With this in mind as we have seen over the last 24 months the Israeli army show remarkable competence and sophistication when targeting external enemies abroad.

Yes it is, they are like an arrogant younger brother shouting his mouth off knowing full well big brother will always come to their defense .

ah yes, I get you now. I missed the nuance altogether…

You're dead right, the apologists will use any excuse, including incompetence, to muddy the waters and distract from the main point - the IDF commit War Crimes by the hour - and they know it.

I can absolutely imagine the Aussie PM definitely calling Netanyahu and telling him to shove his letter up his swiss.

Those IDF cowards said they were targeting a Hamas camera that was helping Hamas further their military actions. Huh? Hamas haven't had a military actions is over a year I'd say. I doubt they have a bullet left. The so called "war" has been a one way murder spree for well over a year. Hamas aren't a credible threat in any shape or form. The yellow IDF assholes could have marched in and taken down the camera at any point instead of doing a double tab bombing to kill journalists and healthcare workers. They are just cowardly liars. The people of Israel have no idea due to censorship how much hate their war crimes are generating.

Edit: Nasser hospital was raided by IDF in February 2024. They have taken it before and could easily enter it again. So why the massive explosives? As I said. Cowardly scum. The most depraved army in the world.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

President Higgins yet again hitting the nail on the head -

    https://www.rte.ie/news/2025/0823/1529861-president-higgins-gaza/

"I have been outlining recently how in the Charter there is a mechanism called Chapter Seven, where, if a certain proportion of the committee of the General Assembly supported, even if the Security Council uses the veto to block it, the secretary general can call for a force to be put together to guarantee humanitarian access."

Was there a Hamas sticker on the side of the camera does anyone know?

Quite incredible that's' the best justification they could put forward.

    AActions Are "completely unacceptable "

Yet they will go on. So they are either unacceptable or they aren't.

Time for all nations to stand up. Invade the **** place if you have to!!

Well Ireland won't be involved in any invasion! Anyway, it won't happen, the slaughter will continue it looks like. America is about the only country that can stop this, but Trump is on Nethanyahus side.

He is one of the few statesmen in the world that will be looked on favourably when the rest of the world turned a blind eye to genocide and ethnic cleansing in 2025.

Can a Mod change the title of the thread to the Ongoing Israeli ethnic cleansing of Palestinians and journalists reporting on it . .

Hamas are impotent to attack Israel and have been for a long time and Hamas are NOT the issue in this conflict .

The mods have deliberately put all the carnage chat in here even when there were other threads created with more accurate thread title - they were closed and transferred into here. It seems ludicrous that the title was not changed accordingly.

Which country is gonna grow a pair of bollix first and ban entry for anyone that has ever served for the IDF?

That 'threat' made to Australia is absolutely shocking, and comes from an internationally wanted war criminal. Like wtf are we doing by even entertaining demands he makes to others?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,514 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

Speculation in Israel even is that the 'Hamas camera' story is utter codswallop and the IDF were trying to kill specific people at the hospital in the double bomb attack, presumably the journalists.

so he wants military intervention, but obviously not Irish because he has made his feelings on defence spending very clear.

sounds a tad hypocritical do you not think?

Looking at news footage of gaza it reminds me of Soweto in South Africa in the 80's . A ghetto.

    Ignorant comment.

Ireland have been sending troops to Lebanon since 1958. To date over 30,000 Irish troops have been deployed there. That's hasn't been done for free.

President Higgins wants Humanitarian aid to be sent in with military escort.

If you are against that then maybe you should ask yourself why?

It isn’t ignorant in the slightest. He is talking about using a big stick to hold over the Israeli heads while aid is sent in. Something I completely agree should happen. The problem is the Israeli state has been working of the preface that the whole world hates it and wants to invade since pretty much it’s inception.

what exactly can Ireland contribute to this big stick other than a few lightly armed soldiers in shoguns?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,034 ✭✭✭Bishop of hope

They cant do that in a conflict because of neutrality. They can't even send in peacekeepers without the UNs say so because of the triple lock. Ireland basically can't decide on anything on its own. If you don't know that then you aren't informed. What would you call that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,375 ✭✭✭brickster69

Maybe a good idea for them to expel the Israeli ambassador due to it's ongoing mass extermination and forced starvation of a 2 million people also now, just to avoid accusations of double standards. It's not as if they need an investigation or anything to prove it. Then again they might get told off for being antisemitic or something something.

Israel seems happy now they have done something they have been asking for a long time. Not a shred of evidence presented against a country that has the largest Jewish population outside of Israel in the middle east, all rights respected and with plenty of synagogues to vandalise if they wanted.

What part of any of this do people find excusable? I have little doubt that certain posters here would have been saying 'yeah they're getting what they deserve' in 1930/40s Germany.

Don't know about hypocritical, but it does seem inconsistent, as thought his usual view was that of a pacifist?

Now maybe he's okay with recruitment, defence spending and building arms for a kind of Earth army that serves a global government (which might use it to intervene in situations like this), but we don't live in that Star Trek (fantasy) world.

A UN mission needs countries that want to take part in it, and also nation state militaries strong enough to be able to contribute and achieve it.

We would not be able for participation in an imaginary mission to compel Israel to stop and let aid in at anything beyond a token level IMO.

Unfortunately it’s all just words, UN, UK etc all demanding answers,

Israel don’t give a f uck, they have and will continue to act with impunity, the large western powers are toothless when it comes to dealing with Israel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,140 ✭✭✭Randycove

if this supposed clause in article 7 allows the general assembly to create a force without UNSC approval, then that covers the triple lock and going into a UN sanctioned mission with other countries has **** all to do with this supposed “neutrality”, so yeah, not ignorant at all thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,034 ✭✭✭Bishop of hope

Fair enough, I see you know it. But then at least it makes the point your making ignorant as it means bypassing the Constitution and that won't happen. Do you think the Irish Army could or would be deployed in combat against Israel legally without breaking the Constitution?

And Ireland can't take part in any force without UN approval if there is a veto by any country.

I do get your point on "supposed" neutrality. It's a thin line to walk and we have declared support for positions of other countries in war situations, Ukraine for example., even strong condemnation of what Israel is doing. But militarily it means no Irish army soldiers will partake in a conflict on one side or the other.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,441 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

I think it's very clear what's he's bloody saying. He's looking to have a UN force set up to help get the flow of much needed aid into Gaza, because what's being let in now is a fraction of what's needed because Israel want to starve people.

There's no "inconsistency" or anything else here. It's pretty straightforward.

Any pushback against what he's saying is just the usual guff from certain quarters because Higgins is "tHe lEfT". 🙄

And this has nothing to do with pacifism either. You can be a pacifist and still be in favour of using a military body to facilitate humanitarian operations.

if I am reading what Higgins says correctly, he seems to think there is a way that the general assembly can create its own force outside of the UNSC, so no veto available from any gov shites in the White House. The triple lock only states UN approval, not security council, so this would effectively unlock that requirement.
I have no idea of this is possible, or if it is just a desperate attempt to justify the triple lock. I have a hunch it may be the latter.
