But Faecal Testing is done here through the Vets so don't need to purchase test kits.

I'm sure once you have test results it will satisfy this scheme.

applied today and included vaccinations (which I do anyways) and silage samples

I just had a read of the T&C's and it says that the samples have to sent to suitable laboratory/testing facility of the participants choice for analysis. Do your Vets do the testing or do they send the samples on? I presume if your Vets do the testing they are classed as suitable to do so but I don't know. I would phone them before you make a final decision just in case they are not covered in the scheme.

    See link below:

    "9.3.1 Option (a) - Faecal Testing:
Carry out two (2) faecal tests for specified parasites and submit for testing to a suitable
laboratory / testing facility of the participant’s choice for analysis.
    • Participants who chose this optional action must carry out two (2) faecal tests with a
minimum of four (4) weeks between each test.
    • All sampling kits must be purchased no later than 13 October 2025.
    • Samples must be submitted to suitable laboratory / testing facility of the farmer’s
choosing (all faecal samples submitted must be fresh).
    • Farmer must retain copies of the receipts for purchase of the sampling kits and use
the action record sheet to record the details of the action implementation"

What’s more beneficial, the clostridial or pneumonia vaccine?

I have hardy cattle that rarely get sick so clostridial would be better right?

do both. I’ve had black leg before so now vaccinate for that religiously. Never had pneumonia in weanlings and never vaccinated. Last year it ran through my weanlings. Absolutely scary how they were just dropping with it in the house. So my advice for the sake of the few euro, cover them for it. I’d consider my cattle hardy too, but never want to experience that again.

I think you have to do a clostridial and and pneumonia vax. I done mine for black leg in the spring and done them for pneumonia and Ibr last week. Money well spend being doing in for the last few years cattle are hardy as hell over the winter. They get there second pneumonia bovipast shot in 4weeks.

Ive done mine for IBR over the summer so Advisor said that is me covered for it. You don't need to do both. I never had blackleg or pneumonia with the weanlings so don't see the need to start

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 764 ✭✭✭ABitofsense

You only need to fill them out if they look to audit you. The forms have always being there for the past years too. I would have being audited before and just printed and filled them in.

I was wondering would a large, long wooden drill bit do the same job?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78 ✭✭Micey.ie

I made a mistake with my application put down an extra calf for meal feeding that I forgot I had sold with cow last autumn, would I be better say nothing or notify the department-says once application is submitted you can’t amend

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 11,796 ✭✭✭✭Base price

I have a calf that is included from last year that is also not on the farm as it was sold. It was born early August 2024, but it was vaccinated and got meal pre and post weanling so therefore qualifies for the scheme. This years scheme is for calves born after 1st of July 2024 and before the 30th of June 2025.

You should be able to zoom out to get a chance to close the popup. Or turn phone sideways and might be able to close then. Are you using the new way of logging in, same details as old way just different order.

Or else try the desktop site option on your mobile. What browser are u using?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 11,796 ✭✭✭✭Base price

Ah, I understand now. Yep email them and explain the situation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 11,796 ✭✭✭✭Base price

There is a new thing from today (1st of Sept) that is a two step verification. From memory you need to input your mobile phone number that is registered with the Dept, they will send you a verification code that you use and then you can log in. I haven't used it yet so I don't know if it's working, although I have to register the twin calves so I will try it later or tomorrow.

You do not need to enter the number you registered at the time of setting up the account.

You need to enter the phones number of the phone you have in hand and is currently in use

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,748 ✭✭✭Sami23
