ah in fairness, 3 times in his life, like.

Think it’d just be a disservice to the kid to throw him into the deepest of deep ends like that. Doesn’t know his teammates, doesn’t speak the language, and has only been in the country five minutes.

Guehi will get done next week, parish himself tonight said they have to sell. It's a waiting game, if his only choice is Liverpool they'll have to compromise and deal or lose him for nothing. They are just hoping someone else will come in at the final hour, willing to pay more and guehi willing to go to.

If Newcastle does not engage there is nothing we can do. The information out of the club was that we will only go back if Newcastle gives us signs they are prepared to sell. We are not going to do what we are accused of doing right now, keep on bidding and upsetting the player when it is not welcomed.

He's only played 17 games for Parma so 3 at RB isn't that small a number percentage wise!

Guehi won't be allowed to leave Palace until after the second leg of the Conference League tie. Glasner fielded Jefferson Lerma in the back line against Fredrikstad because there are only two centre backs in the squad. If Guehi were to leave before the second leg tie a replacement signing would not be eligible to play.

I was coming on there to say the exact same thing. It'll be done after next Thursday, it was always going to be a late move, palace leverage is dwindling by the day.

Would it be worth offering Jaydan Danns as part of the deal for Isak?

If we do sign Isak, with Ekitike and Chiesa staying I don't see Danns getting any game time this year and will probably go out on loan again before the window closes.

Danns is probably next in line to be sold next summer for 25 mill though.

Swaps nearly never happen and they can do a lot better than Danns

Howe said in the Newcastle press conference that the Isak situation is coming to an end. He also dodged a few questions which were targeted at things he had said in recent weeks.

That sounds more like a reconciliation is coming than a transfer?

If the window closes and they have to try to reintegrate him then if that's what he's expecting is going to happen it's hard to imagine him declaring that outcome as "the end"

Indy kalia said that Rodrygo has asked Allison about Liverpool

    lol

on a side note, it seems as though the Indy kalia character has had a bit of a resurgence in the last while. A few articles about how the original guy sold his account to real reporters.
it could be due to the fact that he has heaps of followers and twitter now pays for engagement so the reporters are looking to get on board with him.

    Wild.

Quite a few quotes from Howe this morning

Rory Smith interviewed him for a piece in The Observer yesterday and said he still controls the account but now has more real sources including 2 journalists

He basically said that because his following is so large, agents started finding it useful to feed him info as it gets a much wider audience than local journalists and it kind of grew organically from there

He still seems to spout crazy stuff here and there and you still have to understand that even if he has a real source that source will have their own biases and reasons for using him so it's still hard to actually take seriously

It's the usual problem of the signal and the noise. With transfers there's always noise. Clubs will have a long list of targets and will regularly check in with agents to see what statuses are. But that doesn't mean anything

Rob Guttman on his podcast for the Anfield Wrap yesterday spoke about Semenyo interest, but the discussion was around how we've always had him somewhere on our list so it's not unusual that we might have spoken to his agent recently to check in. But that doesn't mean we're actually interested in bidding for him this window. It's just something that happens. And then that agent talks to people and says yeah Liverpool were on the phone. But he probably gets calls all the time from clubs exactly the same. But with Liverpool's current standing in Europe, it's very advantageous for agents to drop our name if they're looking to get their client into contract negotiations or something

I think it's impossible to know for sure as everyone seems to brief everyone else all the time for their own gain

What's more interesting to me is when the club journalists stay quiet. That often tells more than what they say. See our journalists with Isak, or Newcastle's with Strand Larsen (Keith Dowie yesterday claimed not to have even heard his name rumoured)

    That's when stuff gets close

From what I saw of the press conference Howe was distancing himself from things he had said and done in the past month. He's definitely trying to get back over the fence into being Alex's friend. Some reporters directly quoted him when asking their questions and that made him uncomfortable which was great to see.

When asked if Isak had told the club that he wanted to leave before the season had ended, he said he wasn't going to deny it and that he had conversations with Alex.

When asked if Isak had been disciplined or fined for refusing to train with the team he said he wouldn't know about that, yet two weeks ago he said that there had been no disciplinary action taken against the player.

He also said something along the lines of how during the past month or so he wasn't directly involved with the Isak situation because he was focused on training the team and the information he was getting was second or third hand. For somebody who now claims to not have been directly involved he certainly delivered a lot of sound bites to the media in the past month.

Given Isak's statement I think it will be very difficult for Howe to smooth things over with the Newcastle supporters in the event that a transfer doesn't happen.

Have the Saudis given up on Newcastle? No CEO or DOF. Howe has been completely hung out to dry here with no help it seems. He's handled it very well IMO. I just wonder if the owners thought they would wander in buy every player they wanted and win the league within a couple of years but underestimated the PSR rules.

Well, when you think about it they got rich not by being smart with their investments or inventing something, they just happened to be on top of a bunch of dead animals and plants from the past and it turned into a substance we now need.

So with Newcastle any decisions has to go through multiple layers of decision makers and it is a slow process apparently. They would be much better served to concentrate on building their own club revenue up and going from there than looking at how much money their owners have as it is no guarantee they will be giving them the money or that they will be making smart decisions for them in running the club.

But if they look at the underlying numbers there is a positive trend for them and they should take lessons from us when we were taken over and how we did it. Our revenue in 2011 was £184m, with inflation that would be about £260m today. Newcastle revenue in 2022 when PIF took over was £180m. The next year it jumped to £250m and it is now at £320m. If they keep this trend up they are going to be one of the big boys soon, but much like we learned in the mid 2010's, until you earn it you are there to be exploited.

But they will have to stop their whining about PSR and not being able to spend money that is not even guaranteed to be given to them by PIF. I think though all most see in PIF is ££££'s and nothing else.

I know the full time whistle has gone, but I'm still worried Spurs could Spurs this up 🤣

Quansah has scored 6 minutes into his Bundesliga debut.

Disasterous loss for Leverkusen in the end

So looks like Saka and Odegaard could be out for next weekend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,932 ✭✭✭✭8-10

Saka will definitely play but Odegaard looks like a shoulder issue which will prevent him from being able to bounce the ball in the box so he'll likely be out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,456 ✭✭✭jones

The longer the Isak saga goes on the less likely I feel he'll join us. I hope we've a plan B because if the squad is as it is right now for the season I feel we're weaker in defence and attack squad wise which is crazy after the signings we've had this summer.

I still think letting Quansah go was a mistake unless we sign Guehi before the window closes. The game against arsenal next week is huge

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,568 ✭✭✭The Rooster

Arsenal could well be better without Odegaard. Form has not been good for a while. Saka would be a big loss, but he didnt look too bad and has been known for quick recoveries

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,932 ✭✭✭✭8-10

We absolutely have a plan B, but I reckon we know we're getting Isak this week after the game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,550 ✭✭✭✭rob316

The plausibility of the Isak transfer depends on Newcastle securing replacement(s) something have failed miserably at all summer, I can't see how they turn that around in 8 days?

Newcastle willing to sell, Liverpool still there waiting but can't wait too much longer.

I still think Newcastle are doing the wrong thing trying to replace like for like in a striker market that has been shrunk to nothing this summer. It's their mess though, they have handled it on an amateurs level resulting in the player going on strike.

    What are the Isak alternatives

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,456 ✭✭✭jones

Yeah I'd love to be proven wrong but I can't see Newcastle letting him go (even if it has turned toxic for them) as they have no forward alternatives or signings.

Even if they get Wissa (which is by no means a done deal) I'm not confident we'll get him so what are the alternatives?

I think it's vital we try get Guehi as we're one serious CB injury away from disaster there.
