Options for leaving Sky Q but keeping multi-recording ability

I’m in a bit of a pickle. I really want to get rid of Sky Q and the big bills, but I’m hitting a wall with the tech side of things.

The main issue is recording. My mother mostly watches Virgin and RTÉ. Typical evening looks like this:

EastEnders on RTÉ One at 7.30

Emmerdale on Virgin Media One at the same time

Fair City at 8.30 on RTÉ

With Sky Q it’s never a problem – it just records everything, even if the TV’s off. But when I look at other boxes (like Zgemma) they only seem to have one terrestrial tuner, so no chance of recording Virgin and RTÉ at the same time.

I see things like the VU+ Duo 4K SE with pluggable tuners, but I’m not sure if that’s a real solution or just too much hassle.

So my question is – do I actually have an option to ditch Sky Q and still reliably record Virgin + RTÉ clashes? Or am I stuck with Sky if I want it to “just work”?

Is access to RTE or Virgin players an option for catch up? (I don't watch the soaps, so don't know if they are available on player)

Samsung 7 Series Tizen TV. Don't have Virgin player. I was wondering if catch up works with streaming tv providers such as eir, vodafone or virgin. Much cheaper than Sky Q.

This is what I can do with a ZgemmaH7s and your right the tech side is the bugbear. As you have sky Q you will need to change the LNB unless its a hybrid one ie more than 2 ouputs. The programmes you mentioned are duplicated on the sat channels so with a correctly configured zgemma you can have all the channels you watch the most in a favourites bouuqet. then when it comes to recording you can choose either SAORVIEW or sat but as the zgemma has only one saorview tuner you need to be careful. I would ignore saorview and just use the sat channels.

Here is a pic of what I do, its a sky q look and for illustration I have rteone, virgin then bbc ect as favouritesand its shows Monday at 19.30. and Emmer.corrie.east set to record using sat but if one wanted rte or vigin they can choose one. If you get my drift.

Everything is automated and autotimer is same as series link.

Thanks for the courage :) Just placed order for Zgemma H7s. Hope everything goes smoothly. Do you have any link or instruction for that skin?
