I think a lot see Sommer replacing Onana at Inter for 5m and think that's the answer.

    Easier said than done.

The world is full of Keepers who couldn't handle the pressure of playing for a Utd level club but who will look very good in a smaller team under less pressure.

I know it's only for the smallies and its a surprise but jaysis for them as they don't know but hell of a wait since ordering in early June !!

Thank you for purchasing Junior Membership for 2025/26 – we’re delighted you’re part of the club and hope you’re looking forward to what will be an exciting season.

Due to us having so many new Junior Members this season we’ve had to order additional Junior Membership Packs, meaning there will be a delay with your delivery. Your Membership Pack will be with you in October,

I wouldn't be signing him on huge money, I'm not sure he's in a position to be declining reasonable offers. And there's a little bit of hope that the new crowd are able to identify and rule out any players just looking for a money move.

I wouldn't mind the ego, our best keeper ever in the modern age had a huge ego. As for the error-prone, I think he's far less error-prone than what we have.

I just think he's the most suitable short-term solution to a fairly big problem. It buys us time to get a longer term solution while (hopefully) improving the team immediately. Given Donnarumma's age, he would have to be the long term solution.

If he can be got on loan with an option to buy it would be a fantastic deal. But after the Casemiro transfer you'd be reluctant to do a deal with Madrid for a player they're happy to let go. Especially one that's had issues with niggly injuries.

Can't see them benching Martinez. Even if they would entertain selling him for less than what was originally quoted he's likely their number one for the next few years. With four years left on his contract and them also having aspirations for CL I can't see them selling. It's why they quoted £40M knowing we wouldn't bid that.

Think if we want to get Martinez for under £40M it's going to be next summer if Villa are stuck and need sales for PSR reasons before July 2026.

And yet Sommer was a huge part of the reason Inter got a hiding by PSG in the final. He can't play with his feet.

There are a lot of people who still fail to grasp that a lot of the top teams need a keeper who can play with his feet. It forces teams to press differently. Donnarumma is being frozen out of PSG as a result.

Personally and I think Onana is actually fine in a team that dominates as he aids in beating the press. He has his issues no doubt though.

Ya I think or at least am hoping we will see us play more to his strengths this season under Amorim as we should look to dominate possession more.

The signing under ten hagg ended up being a strange one as you'd have imagined it was a move towards possession football but he just went with a very direct open style which would have suited a better shot stopper.

If memory serves me right, they wanted the membership in earlier this year to ensure you would get a pack.

There was a mix-up last year where I got sent the 23/24 adult membership pack for the 24/25 season. The 24/25 was nicer so I rang and complained.

In the end, they sent it on and I got to keep both but initially they wanted me to pay for the postage returning the older one from Ireland and finally left it with me to drop it back to a certain location if I was heading to OT.

    Penny wise, pound foolish.

I see Rasmus is in talks with napoli seemingly. The difference between him and sancho is night and day. Seemingly he is hungup on his long term future and wants to be wanted and assured, the other lovely chap that we don't call names is more concerned about his pocket.

One of the other articles summarized on LiveScore has linked Kobbie Mainoo with Inter Milan. They share a lot of hot air and baseless rumours though.

On the keepers playing out….there were a few dicey looking tikka takka triangles played in the full back positions on Sunday…..all worked out and beat the press, but it wouldn't be something you'd be used to after near forty years following United…..

Also, 60% possession against Arsenal was quite a stat, considering we thought we would be well out gunned in midfield.

It was a really positive performance that was rough around the edges. We have plenty of time to train this season so you would have to think that they will only get more used to it and more natural.

I'd hate to see him leave but if no new contract is signed by next summer you'd have to consider selling him. Whether it's because of his wage demands or he's not getting enough game time so prefers to look at his options elsewhere. Only just turned 20 and broke into the England starting XI at the euros last summer.

Manchester United and Denmark striker Rasmus Hojlund, 22, and his camp have made clear to the likes of Napoli and RB Leipzig he prefers a loan move with an obligation to buy. (Fabrizio Romano)

To be fair on that point. Onana hasn't really shown his ball playing side to the level we all expected / hoped at Utd.

And the level he is at with the ball at his feet doesn't really make up for the amount of times he seems to get the absolute fundamentals of goalkeeping wrong.

Amorim should be able to coach him into being a great CM for years to come

12 days to go in the transfer window. Garnacho, Hojlund and Anthony will be gone. Sancho might not be arsed to leave. I'll be stunned if we arent active right up to deadline day. I think we will sign a CM and a GK before the window closes. Right now, I'd put my money on Emi Martinez being the GK we sign. As much as we malign Chelseas tactics with Garnacho, I think we are playing a similar game with Emi. Baleba isn't going to happen this year, but theres another Brighton CM I'd be all over. Matt O'Reilly is being linked with a move to Juventus, I was disappointed we didnt take him from Celtic and I'll be doubly so if he goes to Juve now. I think hes a super player and capable of working in the midfield with pretty much any of our current cm options.

I see Chelsea are only willing to offer 25mil for Garnacho lol. Maybe Spurs will make a move and there will be a bidding war.

Under a different structure and management I've no doubt these 3 would have been stars

There’s numerous figures floating about but I thought it had been reported united wanting £50m and Chelsea looking to pay £30-40m.

At Garnacho’s pay level, you just keep him and keep him away from the first team squad if you’re getting completely lowballed.

£2-3m in wages per season with next to no amortization. Might as well keep him until the winter window and beyond when he’s more open to other options if united feel they are losing 10s of millions.

Would be happy for a deal to be done around the £40m mark myself to be rid of him and improve the books.

I don't know about Hojlund, but Garnacho definitely (for someone else unfortunately) and Mainoo hopefully.

I don't think Garnacho will be a star. Does he have the right drive and mentality. He's not a patch on Ronaldo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 968 ✭✭✭jayo44

I agree, he has all the raw talent but does not have the desire of some of the best players. He will do well somewhere I've no doubt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,823 ✭✭✭DellyBelly

Rasmus no way. In fairness he tries hard but one of the worst players I've seen in a United shirt and the price we paid for him…OMG. Jury out on Mainoo but does have potential just needs to go out there and so it. Garnacho is the best of the 3 but an awful attitude so best he's shipped out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,551 ✭✭✭orangerhyme

Hojlund not a hope. I could see him doing well in Germany though maybe.

Garnacho doesn't suit our formation or manager.

Mainoo can still come good. Big season for him this year though.

There can only be a bidding war if the player is open to both clubs. Same as with ourselves, Newcastle and Sesko.

Garnacho is only willing to accept Chelsea. Sesko was only willing to accept United. Antony is only willing to accept Betis.

No other options = no bidding war and all the cards are with the buying team not the seller.
