Should I go Public Sector

I am number 3 on a panel awaiting a HEO role offer in the public sector. Currently I am in the private sector. I earn 62K in the private sector and the HEO role is starting at 58k. In the public sector there is an additional ASC tax in addition to other taxes paid. Can someone explain what this is for ? I am considering the move but the ASC is a bit hard to swallow. Are there any benefits to making a move to the Public Sector? I am paid monthly and I heard the public sector can be bi-weekly does this mean there are months with 3 payments or is it bi-monthly payments and not bi-weekly.

Has anyone made the move. Are you happy with the decision to move to the Public Sector ?

Any information would be much appreciated.

Pay is every 2 weeks. Asc is a levy towards your pension.

You get Flexi leave up to 1.5 days a 4 week period(18 days a year) . Pay will go up every year plus you'll have a pension. I'm in the CS 10 years after a private career of 25 years. Don't regret it in the slightest.

Civil Service pay is bi-weekly for HEO grade, you also have the advantage of flexi time allowing you to work up an extra 1.5 days a month which really saves the annual leave. Flexi time also allows flexible starting time of between 8-10, lunch between 12.30 and 2.30 with a minimum lunch of 30 minutes and a finishing time of 4pm - 7pm once you work a 7 hour day. Other advantage is shorter working year option and very family friendly options of parental leave and parents leave. Lots of departments also have a few days remote working but this would depend on the role.

I’m not sure about the ASC tax but it’s pension related

@mrsgiller Thanks. So bi-weekly means 3 payments within 2 months of the year ?

ASC is a levy that is imposed solely on the CS /PS .
Has no relevance to individual pension entitlement .

The OP has already started a new thread in the proper forum, so you should take any discussion over to that one:
