this 100% - they have job to do, if either messes up, there's prob big ramifications on them as a lot of people would have put a lot of money into this. Liam has for sure had his wings clipped, maybe the frustration shows but he's off the drink and they keep separate. He's also been off twitter which was another flash point for him.

I dont see more oasis tours. They will do this and cash in and quit while ahead. I reckon Liam would continue but Noel will have had enough and be happy enough to take his millions and go back to his solo projects where he's prob happiest at to be honest.

Working in this constrained way wont suit them, or any body long term. For sure would be another clash along the lines somewhere - their edge is part of what got them where they are. Head down now and see it through.

Noel was on TalkSport a while ago and said 'Liam's smashing it, I'm proud of him'

'I guess when it's all said and done we'll sit and reflect on it but it's great being back in a band with Liam. I'd forgot how funny he was.'

    Seems positive enough to me.

Croke Park definitely added to the weekend. When you compare it to Heaton Park & Murrayfield (isolated and not much nearby) and Wembley (crap area, Wembley way crush before/after), its by far the best located venue they've played on this tour. We probably don't appreciate having a venue that handy for a large portion of the city

Despite being in it about 100 times before, I never truly realized how many pubs were within a 20 minute radius until this weekend, when trying to think a bit more outside the box and avoid huge crowds. The weather was spectacular and gave the chance for sitting along the canal or the few green areas. The atmosphere before and after was really lovely

The only negative part ive heared or experienced was about pitch standing. Not a big enough concourse on the Cusack side post turnstiles, one way system down under the Davin that was far too tight, and insane queues for the bathrooms. Drink options were also very sparse and near impossible to get to. Running out of wristbands and stopping the turnstiles for 45 mins on Saturday was unforgivable.

Sunday was better than Saturday, so they did get a handle on it. Wristbands were given right after turnstiles. The pitch seemed much less busy which basically told me lots of people got onto it Saturday who technically shouldn't. I've done it myself so won't complain about them.

The bars were probably worse on Sunday however. I'm going to put it down to staff, they just must be very difficult to get in numbers and sufficient quality nowadays

Coldplay's A,B and C stages seemed to work so much better for keeping the pitch standing sections manageable. Each part has their own little corner (two in C's case) and people could funnel in and out and get to bars and the toilets much easier. That was also at capacity so strange they managed it so much better then

Any ideas about Croker being able for a bigger capacity due to extra pitch space is gone after this weekend anyway. Yep there was plenty of room for thousands more at the back of the pitch. There was zero extra room for them to get in and out to that location though. Not the GAAs fault of course given why the stadium exists

    @Avon ..spot on.

People will underestimate how well Croke park is located. How this adds to it all...

Them modern outer outer suburb places are soulless and ****...

The Aviva is somewhere I’ve never been for a gig , would 3 nights for Oasis ever be viable ? Probably too small capacity wise

The armchair psychologists in here are very funny.

Who knows why either of them do anything? From all footage we've been shown, they're getting g on great on stage. Anything else is pure guesswork.

Liam said on Saturday, that he had to go to bed now, as he's a little Princess. I'd often make comments about myself like that when tired. Who knows? He could have been feeling unwell. He could have had something planned with his mother, early the next morning. Maybe he wanted to go to Tayto Park with his kids? Who knows? Could mean a million things.

As for Croke Park, i actually preferred the setup around Wembley. Much more comfortable and easier to get in and out of. Much of a muchness really.

Also, Cardiff blows all other locations out of the park.

I'd be happy with Slane next summer.

I'd also be happy if they took a 2yr gap, but that doesn't sound likely

There's no world in which Wembley is easier to get in and out of than Croke Park. There's a bottleneck for one thing too and from the train station.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 747 ✭✭✭CuriousCucumber

As someone who stood on the pitch in Wembley and again in Croke Park, Wembley was much easier to get in and out of.

Could barely get off the pitch in Croke Park due to the lack of exits

I suppose the fact that you can take the tube Wembley means you can socialize all over the city before heading to the gig, where as for Croke Park you need to be within a few kms

    Anyway, let's not fight

What's linking the car in the pool thing and 23rd Aug to Oasis ?

    Oasis "Amateur night" LOL.

Fair enough, its TLDR but he's keen to stay out of this one - cop out, but maybe he just steer clear of offering opinions everywhere else then because he has a bit too much to say.

    Anyway, back to Oasis.

I can't link right now but for anyone interested there's an interview with Noel on talksport from today. The interview is really about sport but the 1st few mins are about the tour. On youtube just search "Noel Gallagher talksport"

I saw them when I was 14 in cork in 96. They were all over the radio then , you had lads in mop tops all over the place. There was a great energy that time , they were the biggest band in the world for a period, great albums , great singles and besides , you also got value for your concert ticket. Sunday was a great event and gig. People seemed genuinely happy to be there and while some were longing for a previous time others were hoping to experience what the old brigade had. Croke park looks world class from the ground level.

I've seen all of those bands too and many more. NOTHING from any of those bands came even remotely close to what Oasis provided this weekend.

Not even close. It sounds like you've an issue with Oasis, each to their own. I'll keep my opinion of one of the bands you mentioned to myself though because I'm not bothered with the argument, lest I lose to experience as they say.

Murrayfield has plenty nearby, it’s about 15 minutes to walk to Haymarket and all the pubs, restaurants, and hotels along the route to the stadium were full before Oasis. We did a crawl of four or five along the way from the train station. It was better than I expected.

Agree re: Wembley though, it’s an absolute nightmare trying to get the tube after any major event. It’s such a badly serviced venue for what it is. I’m going for Coldplay in a couple of weeks and dreading the way home.

I think we’re a bit blinkered about Croker, naturally. Our local knowledge helps with navigating modes of transport and routes afterwards in a big crowd. It’s a bit of a minefield if you’re unfamiliar with the lay of the land.

The walk back to Custom House Quay was grand.

After the tragic incident in Wembley (RIP to the fan, also RIP to the fan who passed away hours before the show in Edinburgh) i held back roughly 15-20 mins till the crowds died down a bit but the streets were still busy enough. It can be tricky in the dark but once you get near the park in Mountjoy Square you can see the Spire/O Connell Street.

    Lads, give over ta f*ck.

Nobody doubts the gigs at the weekend were great but there were great gigs the week before and there will be many more great gigs before the year ends. It's all subjective in terms of taste but most people can recognise great live artists from others who aren't. Noel is as good without Liam as with, Liam is a pub act without Noel.

I've been lucky enough to see massive stadium gigs by U2, AC/DC, Metallica, Bon Jovi, Pearl Jam, Foos, RATM and the energy and crowd response was much better that the weekend, usually with the vast majority for the music and not the event, it seems like a lot of people want to justify their net spend this time around.

He did reference it on Sunday. Something like "I've never been this sober in Ireland before"

It’s uncanny how the only people who truly know what the Oasis gigs were like were the people who weren’t there.

    Give over ta f*ck indeed.

Before this year only seen Noel do 2 support sets (in Croke Park coincidentally) and Liam do his thing in 2019

How does this years show compare to Liam's tour last year which looked more or less 'Diet Oasis' on paper given it was a 30th Anniversary celebration of Definitely Maybe

I went to Liam's Definitely Maybe tour twice last year and it was absolutely brilliant.

I went to Oasis in Wembley a few weeks ago and Croke Park at the weekend and it's just another level. The setlist, the two lads back on stage together and clearly enjoying themselves rather than just going through the motions, the visuals on the massive screens, having Andy & Gem and especially Bonehead back, the buzz before the gigs, 80,000 people singing together, it's just two hours of pure euphoria. Magic

The weekend proved that Oasis are a great live band and the sum of their parts. I’ve seen most of those bands you’ve mentioned, as well as a couple of hundred others, and haven’t witnessed that level of universal happiness and delight at being in the moment. A comeback tour is always going to hit harder than a band just jobbing their latest album, of course.

I saw RATM in 2008 and that was special too, but only eight or so years after their breakup. Oasis was double that.

Oasis also tap into your average joe radio listener far more than RATM (and Metallica, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters etc.). Literally everyone knows the words to Wonderwall and Don’t Look Back In Anger, even if you hate Oasis. It resonates far more, rightly or wrongly.

I agree it’s all subjective, I’d close the curtains before going to see U2, and getting into mickey swinging is silly but I’ve never experienced 80,000 people singing in unison like that before in 25 years of attending gigs, both large and small. It was simply special.

    Hmmm…Disagree…

U2 Zoo TV at the RDS, Popmart at Lansdowne Road and the recent gigs in The Point were absolutely amazing. Zoo TV is absolutely legendary and changed the course of outdoor concerts forever…Something Noel Gallagher has said (Best thing he ever saw apparently)

I've been to hundreds of gigs down through the years. Saw Oasis 4 or 5 times before the reunion. They were just alright. Saturday night, it was one of the best gigs I was ever at. Flawless. But I wouldn't start **** on other great gigs I was at or witnessed myself because of it. As time goes on, Saturday night will absolutely be in my top 3 or top 5 of all time. But I'd be very hesitant to say it was better than anything else I ever saw.

Ask me again in 10 years :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,321 ✭✭✭MOR316

4 nights if they done it. 52,000 capacity.
If U2 are doing Slane (Which will probably be two nights due to their demand) I'd say give Croke Park to Oasis next year. However many concerts are allowed in the place for the summer. Guaranteed to sell out and it would generate a huge amount of money for the city.

Bono or U2 as a whole weren't that well informed about Aung San Suu Kyi who they threw everything into supporting her during her 20 odd years on house arrest. She's turned out as rotten as the junta she protested about. Bono etc has been very quiet in that.

I originally got 4 standing at €437 for Saturday and later on a Sunday seat for €375.

The ticket gods really shone on my with the code for the additional sale last week. Ended up being able to replace the 4 dynamic price standing with face value standing for Saturday.

On my way into the gig Saturday thanks to the thread here I heard there was a ticket drop and ended up getting a ticket just above my €375 ticket for €95.

The dynamic priced tickets didn't last a minute on toutless.

My 1st ever gig was Oasis in 97 and have never missed them or either Gallagher brother in Ireland since.

Didn't think anything could beat the 1st time but being in front standing with my favourite people Sunday night probably did. One of the best weekends of my life and undoubtedly the best performance I've ever seen from Oasis. If they don't play here next summer I'll travel to see them

I think the capacity of the Aviva is in or around 50k, so if you stick the stage down at that crappy end with only one tier (Havelock Road end), you're not actually losing that many seats. However even then you're still not going to fit much more than 50k into the Aviva, so two nights in Croker is still bigger than 3 in the Aviva. I actually never realised that Oasis are heading back to Wembley on the 27th and 28th of September, so with that in mind I still can't believe that we only got two concerts, even Coldplay managed four here, and dare I mention it, but Garth Brooks did five. Time for Peggy to have a word with her two boys 😎

I'd imagine that getting more nights in Croke Park might have been the problem.

Maybe next time around they'll do a couple of nights in Cork as well.

But we don't have a monopoly on them either I suppose!

Britain got 12 shows for its 50 million plus population, ireland for 2 shows for its 7m population on the island. We actually one of the best opportunities relative to pop.

Britain got shortchanged on 2025 dates hence why they are doing a few more next year.

Fair point, London blows all of the cities out of the water when it comes to public transport, but yes Wembley wouldn't be in the greatest part of London. I've never been to a concert in Cardiff but I have been at a rugby match there, and it's easily the best of the lot as a stadium and location wise, I can only imagine what a concert must be like there with the roof closed. Croker in fairness is excellent, probably not the greatest part of Dublin either, but within walking distance and plenty of bars close by.
