Playing here for the 1st time next Monday ,off the back sticks aswell in the black Monday challenge they have.3 of us in our mid 20s playing,I see a buggy is highly recommended by alot of people.just wondering is there ever an issue with anyone in the winners or qualifying enclosure being questioned about using a buggy not having a doctors cert here or is that rule overlooked considering the course?also what condition is it in so far this year?

Played it end of March and it was in decent nick. Should have come on another good bit with the recent dry weather. Greens are always first class down there. No issue with using a buggy in competition. Happens in many courses around the country.

Yeah they are going to let you rent a buggy and enter the competition and then DQ'd after you win, because you were using a buggy???

There must be something in the water down there in Tipp.

I'm a member for the last year or so and very seldom use a buggy. Most members don't.

Probably doesn't help my golf, but good for the fitness :)

I brought in a shambolic 8 points for the back nine. I'm using the excuse that I was bolloxed to disguise my shocking play. Course is playing lovely now its dried our. I fear the black tees competition may make me quit the game

Look on the bright side. When you're playing off the blacks, you've less distance to walk from green to tee. ;)

I'm very sorry to resurrect such an old thread but had a question or two about this place.

I know it's very hilly and a buggy is required but would it be good for someone who can't drive the ball far? Friend of mine has rods in his back and his backswing turn is very limited, just wondering if he would suffer around here?

Also, It looks amazing in videos that I've seen but I heard they cut down a lot of the trees which is a shame. Is that right?

What id say is...check about the buggy use, if its cart-path only, its a pain to play. You'll be lugging multiple clubs with from the cart to your ball, all day.

Its a lovely course, but its long and tough

You don't need to be a big hitter to get around it, but if you're saying your mate hits the ball well below average off the tee then I don't think they'd massively enjoy it.

Macreddin is always cart path only as far as I know. I think it's a safety thing with all the hills and undulations.

He averages about 190-210 off the tee. Not the worst but think he was just worried about keeping up with the rest of us if we were to play it. There are one or two forced carries if I recall (12th being one).

Be keen to hear of the condition it's in recently too. Someone told me that they lost a lot of trees to the storms earlier this year.

If he hits it 200 off the tee he should be grand.

Playing there on Saturday and will feed back on condition if that’s not too late.

Yeah that would be great. Won't be playing till 1st week of September I shouldn't think. Would appreciate that Sorbet!

Do ye all hit the ball straight? If not I wouldn’t play there. Any wayward shots are severely punished.

I would honestly say yes, most of the time! I'm told that a lot of holes you can play fairly conservatively and it's not imperative to be banging away with the driver on most of the holes anyway.

I'm really looking forward to it.

I'm going to suggest walking. It's a far better experience and you can always change your mind after nine and get a buggy. Which would be cheaper too. As others have said it's cart path only because of the dangerous hills. We had one two ball overturn off piste recently on the 13th, topple over and slide down the hill to be stopped by a tree that crushed the roof of the buggy. The idiots got away with some bruises and scratches.

Most of the members walk. The front nine is less hilly, the back nine has a good few strong hills like from the 12th green to the 13th tee and up the 15th. My Garmin tells me it's about an 11km walk with 220m of climb. 1km of that is going from the 9th to 10th and 18th back to the clubhouse.

Your friend will have no problem off the tee. If he's straight, I'd argue he'll have a great time. The front nine is about being straight, the back nine is about getting in the right position.

I've walked it a few times, it's fine apart from the walk from 9th green to 10th tee which is stupid long

I don't know if you did this, but if you walk through the hotel carpark and up by the function room, it's a good bit shorter. Still 500m though.

Played it yesterday as planned and I’d say the condition of the course is reasonably good. A few tees felt a little hairy and an awful lot of pitch marks. Greens were in a much better state than the time I played last year. Great but tough course. Hope you enjoy.

Cheers Sorbet! Booked for the 5th, looking forward to it.

Don't mind a few hairy tees, kind of suits the course, bit rugged.
