The goalkeeper situation is concerning me I must admit.

In some ways it should be easier to address than the midfield. A short term stop gap wouldn't help much in midfield because Casemiro and Ugarte are already in that category, although Ugarte needs to seriously get his head out of his hole.

In goal, a stop gap would be a considerable upgrade on what we have.

So when Donarumma, Costa, Lammens are all being linked with big teams for sensible money (other than Donarumma) but we don't seem to have any serious links, I do fear that we're going to stick with what we have.

It should not be difficult to upgrade that position.

If Galatasary (or is it Fener?) get Costa for 20m i'm gonna be so annoyed!

I do think there are some question marks over his game, but at 20m it is almost a no lose gamble. At the very least he would provide proper competition in the position.

Lammens at 15m you are also taking a gamble on a young keeper, but again it is a gamble worth taking at the values being spoken about.

Especially with Lammens, given his age and probably wage, it doesn't wed you to him in case it doesn't work out and at worst you probably have a much better back up than we have now.

I genuinely find it inconcievable that we saw what we saw last season, and don't sign a keeper this summer. I understand a reluctance to buying another senior keeper when you can't move on Onana or Bayindir - but the fact there is almost no interest in either is surely a good indication we simply can't keep going with either of them.

This is just a popularity contest. To suggest that Maguire, Casemiro, Mata, McTominay etc. were actually better football players for man united than Pogba is so nonsensical it’s not even worth discussing. This is why stats are so important. They cut through bias.

Yes he was toxic. Yes he was dislikeable. But his on field contributions is not remotely comparable to that lot.

Rashford is the only one who could possibly have a realistic shout in that list. De Gea obviously but it was outfielders only.

Yann Sommer is available for around £2m, he's 36 but would cover a year or 2.

The only guy I added because I liked him more is Mata. The others all, despite what stats tell you, have contributed more positively to Manchester United. As I outlined in my opening post stats will tell you whatever you want them to tell you, I remember the games with Pogba and all the issues around his best position(s) and the requirements to free him up etc etc. Simply put Paul Pogba is not the second best player at Manchester United over the past decade.

And why are you excluding GKs? As we've seen on Sunday GKs contribute massively to teams being either successful or failures

And has previously dramatically improved a defence by replacing Onana as #1.

In your opinion. The facts would (overwhelmingly and in every possible way) suggest otherwise.

If you were to ask all the players and mangers of the time - who was a more impactful and important player for Man United. McTominay or Pogba, you would get more than a few chuckles.

This is just revisionism and bias for a player who is very dislikeable vs one that is very likeable. It’s also comparing a player absolute performance vs the expectations placed on them.

Here is an actual player and captain who played with him talking about him. Couldn’t be more true. Best player on the pitch (which he regularly was) or absolutely slated. https://youtube.com/shorts/fSDiZ36CdcY?si=mLPzyjMBzDSACckt

Yep its like nam flashbacks all again.

I'm amazed World Cup winner hasn't been played yet.

I thought Bayindir had a very good game against Arsenal. His distribution was top drawer all through the game and he made some great line splitting passes. He was clearly fouled for their goal and our defenders need to do a better job at corners regardless of who between the sticks so I'm not holding that against him.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Linked with Agoume today, for like 30m. I think he'd be a very good alternative to Baleba.

Good qualities, promising player, and at 30m he doesn't need to be THE answer. He doesn't stop us going for Baleba in the future either.

Interesting that Gary Neville could finish in top 4 this Season on MNS…….providing they sign a decent keeper ASAP……

Is this a backhanded dig at Amorim and the board that likes of Onana are going to cost us 10-15 points this Season?

Bayindir has has already cost us at least 1.

It’s boring waiting around for the next game but never boring enough to feel the need to revisit the Paul Pogba debate

Has two years left on his contract so maybe Gala are being cheeky and putting in a low offer. Though maybe the lad isn't as good as talked about. Wasn't he woeful when we played Porto last year conceding two soft near post goals in the draw?

    Not more Pogba debates

Sorry lads, my fault. I just couldn't ignore the preposterous notion of Pogba being our second best player of the past decade. Anyway I've said my piece so I'll leave it there

    I'll just say this:

Look at the slack that Hojlund has been cut despite being by far and away our worst first choice #9 in PL history over a decent sample size.

Media spin and player personality can have an oversized influence on fan perspective when it comes to judging a player's performance levels. There's clearly often a struggle to separate these dimensions and it can certainly be seen with Pogba (in a directly opposite sense to Hojlund).

The past decade has been fairly crap in fairness so it's not a ringing endorsement either way!

He's a great all rounder, probably not as physical as Baleba but his stats are impressive. He scored at the weekend too.

Edit: Just to say, the most Baleba-esque substitute knocking around is Dario Essugo at Chelsea. He was signed for around 20m from Sporting during the summer but will struggle to get minutes at Chelsea. We should be hitting them up for a loan because he'd do better than either Casemiro or Ugarte. Essugo and Agoume together would be a real game changer for our midfield.

He did have that record-setting run of scoring in consecutive games (in between barren spells, I know) as well as his personality/effort levels. Hope he gets that move to Italy and starts figuring out where to position himself in the box!

Essugo + £25 mill for Garnacho . Problem solved and we can go and buy Agoume

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,051 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Can't see Chelsea selling him the same window they only bought him in. Don't think they'd entrain any deal like that either. They sold Lesley Ugochukwu for £25M for example.

Any swap deal like that would likely have to be £50M for Garnacho with United buying a player for £25M but they don't rate Garnacho as worth that much.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,887 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

Nah I summoned it when I suggested him as one of the worst value signings.

I shoulda known its like feckin Candyman, just say that name once and it opens the portal to summon the "STATISTICS",

Unrelated but I think everyone can agree that - damn Tony Todd was such a badass. Fúcker held two separate great horror franchises for decades. He is a legend, that voice was hypnotic.

Hmm I'm worried about the lack of credible transfer news on a CM and GK.

13 days to get transfers in and lets face UTD arent exactly speed wizards to get transfers in

You're doom to failure if you don't get a CM and a GK in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,409 ✭✭✭scottser

Would be great, but Essugo has just landed at Chelsea so they won't sell him. We could certainly take him on loan, reduce the Garnacho fee accordingly and then buy Agoume if Sevilla would sell him this late into the window.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,689 ✭✭✭Cotts72

I welcome the links with Agoume and it's a reasonable fee being quoted. As much as I like hjulmand he doesn't offer the pace we need in that position. The DM needs to be able to run with the ball and improve our transitions

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,051 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Especially when you consider Chelsea got £25M for Ugochukwu and are willing to listen to bids for Chukwuemeka if an offer close to his £40M release clause is offered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 20,332 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

hjulmand is 6foot1 and is in bottom 12% for aerial duels won. that to me suggests he doesn't like the physical side of things so a big no from me, especially considering our offensive and defensive set pieces.

bottom 9% for progressive passes, bottom 6% for progressive carries. so doesnt advance the ball via dribbling or passing.

he is alright defensively (heading aside) but i think he'd prove to be a huge waste of money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,921 ✭✭✭Robson99

Hjulmand is an average player. Looks good in the league he is in. If he was any use one of the Spanish Clubs would have picked him up

A lot of La Liga fans saying Agoumé isn't good enough for the Premier League.
