Live until Midnight, it's been a while ,December '23?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 437 ✭✭Rock Solid

Yes it's sounding well in Tallaght. Been awhile, not there usual frequency of 1395 or 1440. When Energy disappeared a station on 1206 appeared on and off with similar audio and signal. Great to hear some AM activity.

    From there Facebook page yesterday:

Testing live on 1512 until midnight, reception reports welcome.
    We're back ,

Energy AM 1512 : Coming in well to Kilpedder in North East Wicklow. Good signal in this location, just south of the giant RF choke that is the The Glen of The Downs. Nice to hear you back on.

sounding well in Dundrum. I’m not a MW expert so don’t know the reason behind the frequency change but it’s nice to hear ye back

On their Facebook page they mention an antenna mismatch and they hope to be back on 1440 once aerial work is completed.

AM antennas ,even at low power, are very sensitive, FM antennas as you probably know are far more forgiving.

Talk of another weekend AM station appearing soon in Dublin ,Sunset AM apparently?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 437 ✭✭Rock Solid

Yes, AM Antenna must be the exact length for the frequency you can use ATU to help tune the antenna.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 902 ✭✭✭TheBMG

that would be cool but not sure how well the old dance anthems will sound on MW (unless the engineer lets loose on the bandwidth 😜)

Time to brush off the cobwebs on the Bartimod !

speaking of bandwidth i suspect Energy have slightly broadened theirs and/or increased power? Seems to be more powerful on 1512 or perhaps it suits the antenna better?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,035 ✭✭✭Infoanon

Energy have the old Energy 103/738 optimod AFAIK, power has been decreased since Friday night , antenna issues according to their FB page.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 413 ✭✭Orban6

Not the old Energy Optimod. I think it's an ex BBC Optimod. The 4.5 kHz filter was defeated to allow for 12 kHz wide audio.

The station on 1206 was Radio Daniella. I understand that it had previously been on other AM frequencies but I only came across it when it got to 1206kh. There was a period when Energy was still broadcasting on 1440 and Radio Daniella was in 1206. During Energy's absence, Paul Murray - their principal presenter in recent years - turned up for relatively rare live broadcasts on Radio Daniella (it usually relayed other stations or played old pirate broadcasts).

No worse sounding than when they were being played on 106.4 back in the day.

Energy back on the aor this evening, 1350khz the new frequency

I think you are confusing Sunset for something which was 400kHz below it !

The station on 88 MHz which I posted about in January is still on. Coming from somewhere in Cavan probably. Country 'n' Irish music, no speech content. Heard on car radio this morning near Clones, weak signal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 902 ✭✭✭TheBMG

is he the lad who used to be up on around 99.4/5? Mono but a fairly good signal over a large range?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 23,532 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

Misty Mountain Radio used to be on 99.4, same format. Reported reception in Co Louth in 2016, page 42 of this thread.

Energy power AM making the trip across the Irish sea on 1440khz tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 413 ✭✭Orban6

I was able to receive 99.4 and 88 here but I checked following your report and could hear nothing on 88 mHz.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 646 ✭✭✭Oscarziggy

Energy on 1440khz even better this evening and good choice of music — Dreadlock holiday - All the way from America - We gotta get out of this place - to name a few .

XHDATA D-808 internal aerial on kitchen window sill .

Will try again in the morning .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 646 ✭✭✭Oscarziggy

Nothing on 1440khz this morning or evening .

1368khz Manx Radio Gold a good signal all day as usual and Radio North on 846khz a very good usable signal this evening so I assume Energy were not on today .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Declan A Walsh

Energy Power AM (on 1440 khz) are never on daytimes during normal weekdays but apparently they have been on a number of weeknights recently. That has not even been normal for them. Maybe that has changed now. Weekends are when they tended to be on the most. As it happens, Energy was on last night.

A trip up the north Pembrokeshire coast yesterday morning with the company of Energy on 1440 khz !

It was even worthy of a preset on the radio !

Conditions must have been marginally up as Radio North on 846khz was occasionally making an appearance .

Good to have some extra Medium Wave activity .
