SSoMe great athletics today hopefully. Womens 800 coukd drag a few to pbs if sarah goes out for it from the start.

Men's 1500 will be interesting. I ca t see griggs hanging around for a dust up in a slow race if he is in the shape been talked about. Maybe Morgan might sacrifice himself here to make this a really honest pace from the start.

Mcphillips v engl8sh should be fantastic in the 800. Can't imagine either will want to take this out so the last 150 should be a proper burn up.

The 5000 might be interesting if o leary is will8ng to take it hard from the start to test fay, otherwise can't see any living with fay over the last 400

Griggs couldn't hang with coscorann or Doyle in the morton mile so imagine it'll be Doyle/coscorann again.

Unless fay is tired from a fast 4.5k then no one is matching him in a 400m burn up yeh, don't know anyone willing to go at 13 min pace for first 4k though as doubt O'leary would be willing to do so.

Anyone else capable of giving Sarah a run for her money/pushing her for a time?

Big shock at the US trials 1500m as Jonah Koech, Ethan Strand and Cole Hocker go 1-2-3 and Hobbs Kessler and Yared Nuguse miss out in 4th and 5th. Kessler hadn't been in his 2024 form so not a massive surprise, but Nuguse not making it is a big shock.

Sydney McLaughlin wins the 400m in 48.90 and also confirmed she's not running 400m hurdles in Tokyo. Still waiting for the evidence that she'll be able to compete with Paulino and Naser, to me she's easily the third favourite in that race.

Athing Mu ran 1:59 to finish 4th in her SF, doesn't make the final. Needs to get away from Bobby Kersee ASAP, have no idea what he's trying to do with her.

Was disappointed with both the womens 800 and the mens 1500m to be honest.

The mens 1500m was a 400m race - Coscorann even managed to medal twice after his 5k win - gold and silver. If Doyle had left it any later Coscorann might have got gold twice with just an hour between his events.

Would have liked to see Sarah attack that 800 from the start, they could have gone a lot quicker possibly even a few sub 2s.

A 16 year old ran 1:42 in the US championship for 800. Mind boggling.

Róisín Willis, daughter of Breda Dennehy, won the women's 800.

Sarah ran a very poor tactical race, was stuck on the inside throughout in a messy 800m and never really got going. Agree he would have been better off taking it out herself and going for a fast time.

I thought Hannah Segrave would have taken the race by the scruff of the next, she was the only sub 2m runner in the race, and strolls in 5th.

Fair play to Alex O'Neill though.

They said on RTE her sub 2 time was from a good few years ago. Think her fastest time this year was 2:01. Still a disappointing run from her though

    Was only a little over a year ago now. 17th July 2024 a 59.3.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen pulls out of Silesia and Brussels Diamond League. Still hasn't raced outdoors this season, Worlds must be looking dodgy at this stage.

Is the line up for the Brussels out?

Heartbreaking for mcellhinney missing the automatic qualifying for the 5000 tonight in belgium by 1 sec but 13.02 fantastic run 3rd fastest irish time ever .Griggs with a 13.05 an 8 second Pb for 5th fastest irish time ever. Still think.he might go close to the sub 3.33 he needs for the 1500 qualifying in his 1500 next week

Good win for mcphillips in the 800

Fred Kerley provisionally suspended for whereabouts failures

Not having a good year to say the least. He'll appeal and likely wriggle his way out of it, or else get a reduced ban, but anyone who dodges three drug tests is doping.

Silesia Diamond League on Saturday could be a great one.

    https://silesia.diamondleague.com/programme-results/

Faith Kipyegon is taking a stab at the infamous 3,000m world record of 8:06. She'll have Jessica Hull pacing her, so couldn't ask for a better person.

I'm more interested though in what Beatrice Chebet can do over 1500m. World record holder over both 5k and 10k, I think she can also run very fast at shorter distances too. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see her win in something like 3:53/3:54 or even faster. Sarah Healy will be in this race also.

Keely Hodgkinson is also in the start list of the 800m, so hopefully we'll finally be getting her season debut 🤞

    Lyles vs Thompson over 100m.

Thompson looked on fire in the relays in London, was a pity he didn't run that day.

Is Rhasidat skipping or didn't make the cut based on SB...? (If that's how it works)

Looking at the start list - Rhasidat would be 9th fastest in the field going on current season's bests…

SBs don’t matter a jot for diamond league purposes though. There’s no set criteria at all

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,140 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Kipyegon could break this decades old record..

I think she will, and Chebet will probably break it after her.
