    Somebody asked Grok also😂

cfootcameroun is generally reliable for Cameroonian football news, especially transfers. They accurately reported Baleba's 2023 move to Brighton ahead of time. However, this specific claim of a done deal isn't yet confirmed by major outlets like ESPN or Sky Sports, which note ongoing talks. Wait for official word.

It's gonna cost him nothing long term. He's still gonna get his massive wages for the year and still walk into another deal he doesn't deserve in 12 months. Out the door ASAP and save yourself some money while hopefully at least getting a couple of mill in the deal for ourselves too. The only loser in Sancho staying at United this season is United.

Yeah someone had it up too that they were also the first to report Onana to United. So when it comes to Cameroonian players they likely have good sources feeding them info.

If true, that figure for Baleba is nuts. Exciting talent by the looks of things but that's a serious amount of money for a 21 year old defensive minded midfielder with very little senior football behind him.

With Saudi, USA etc.. he'll 100% get at the very least 1 more contract. He was playing PL football just a couple of months ago.

I'm fairly comfortable saying his time at the very biggest clubs has come and gone. He's never getting back to a Utd level club. But he'll get a wage somewhere and it'll be a fairly good one too

A wage somewhere, sure, like Deli Ali and Lingard picked up wages as they circled down the drain.

But nobody is offering him 250k a week ever again, so if he is at the point of treating football like a job then he absolutely should stay on that contract as long as possible.

Taking Roma or Juve money involves working hard to make the most of the chance such a move would give him. It would not surprise me if he simply doesn't want to do that work.

Caicedo had less experience at senior level and this lad looks just as good if not better than what Caicedo was before moving for £115M.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 578 ✭✭✭twinex

That's "prime years, best in the world" money.

And almost guaranteed to miss January. Cameroon are always there or there abouts at AFCON.

By all means buy him, but for that amount is crazy in my opinion.

If the third sponsorship deal, and likely a major one, is announced tomorrow, then the club probably won't announce any Baleba deal (if true) and risk overshadowing it. Big reveal on Saturday and Old Trafford will be hopping by the Arsenal game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭BenK

But why's Caicedo the benchmark? He's been decent but I don't think he's been anywhere near worth £115 million either.

It's not my money etc. etc. but it's a risky transfer. Even Declan Rice had a lot more high-level experience when he was signed for a big fee.

Unfortunately that's the joys of doing business with Brighton. If you want to buy another player whose at the level or above it of Caicedo then you'll have to pay through the nose or someone else will.

Not sure that account were first to break anything. Someone has dug out their Baleba/Brighton tweet and they were just reporting what someone else had reported, even tagging the original reporters in it.

Don't think we will see anything on Baleba until we sell 2 or 3 players and even then I'd be surprised if we get it done at the numbers being talked about.

A lot of people delighted with the transfers this summer.

Fact is that Sesko and Baleba are huge risks, nowhere near guarantees. It wouldn't surprise me one little bit if in 6 months time people are making excuses for them and lamenting their struggles.

Any transfer is a risk, I'm not saying don't take those risks. They have to take a chance on somebody.

But 100m+ and 70m for 2 young lads with their body of work? I don't know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,409 ✭✭✭scottser

Sesko is quality and I've no doubt he'll get us goals. Baleba I'm less sure of and for 100m we could have brought in 3 experienced CMs. You'd think we might have learned that young players rarely live up to those 80-100m price tags. Anyway, I hope we get him because we need a CM and I hope ta **** he does well for us.

Yeah both of these are very risky at the money involved. I like the Cunha and Mbuemo deals but the other 2 (if Baleba does happen) seem very pricey considering the age and experience of the players. Obviously could pay off hugely if it works.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭BenK

Yeah I understand that side of it. Maybe don't do business with Brighton so. Surely there's a similar profile player out there that would be less risky/pricy?

The figures we've spent are nit the actual money spent so far. With the Cuhna and Mbeumo deals its the 65ish over a the len5of the contract…so 20ish million per year.

The 2 wanted to come to utd and Mebumo asked for a transfer request.

Sesko we paid a good amount towards getting that up front, wasn't broken down as muchmas the above but by all reports hes been on the scouting radar for years.

Belaba, if they can come to a deal where the pay is segmented then why not. We are not paying 100 mil now its a spread even cost.

Still have lads to ship out, which will plus our psr for next year when I'm co.es in to affect in Cas, Antony and Sancho.

Edit: Garna sale is pure profit.

Its about psr regulations now, not so much what a bought vs what they sell for. Antony and Cas won't hinder us next summer to.e osr evaluation

The figures we've spent so far are the actual money spent so far! They're paying the overall amount no matter what way you break it down. I know it's generally the way transfers work now but it will impact their spending in future years.

Rather sign 1 quality midfiethen 3 run of the mill midfielders.

The actual cash is spent now ( unless instalments agreed ), the "over the lenght of the contract" is an accounting tool

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,224 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

    100%

We have average midfielders (at best) in Ugarte and Casemiro. Why bother spending £40m on similar quality?

What we're missing is a superstar midfielder and if Amorim & the club feel that Baleba is that, then we might just have to spend the money.

But as Ratcliffe said before, we need to start buying these stars when they're pups. Maybe we should have signed Caicedo when he was a few million. Sesko too. Rather than waiting til they're near triple figures.

But then again that seems to be what we're trying to do, grabbing the likes of Obi, Heaven, Kone etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,260 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

True. Also with Leon aswell. Theres a change in policy in trying to sign those players with promise of becoming the next big thing I.e. when we signed Ronaldo from Lisbon after playing them in the friendly. There's no point in padding out the squad with more midfieldes. We have enough of average ones as it is.

I think we need to do both for a period of time to get back to the top level. It's easier to integrate youth into a successful team than where we currently are.

On Baleba, the fee is going to be high but that's what a midfielder of his type costs because they are a rare breed these days. Caceido and Rice have both been brilliant for their teams since moving for big fees and Baleba is like a hybrid version of both of them combined.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Listening to a lot of podcasts over the last few days around the start of the premier league and nearly all the pundits have us finishing between 10th and 6th. More leaning to more mid table if I'm being honest. Initially I was thinking mid table myself but with the signings I do think we can and should be finishing between 8th and 6th

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,224 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

That's been my thinking. I estimated 7th, increasing to maybe 5th if we get a good enough midfielder.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,224 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Sky claiming that we'll move for Hjulmand if Baleba doesn't happen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,269 ✭✭✭paulbok

Same way a previous years transfers spread over 5 years affect this years available budget.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,173 ✭✭✭NITRO95

Cue the "Amorim only wants players hes worked with previously" complaints

How likely is 5th place to get a CL place this year? I know it'll come down to the clubs in Europe this seasons performance, but with 6 in the CL, that surely puts England in a favourable position.?

Are any points carried over from last year?
