6 months ago I'd have agreed with you. But now if there are to be sanctions, it must affect every Israeli I think. It must make them realise what the people they have put in power are doing and be made to bring about change. I'm not talking about killing or harming in any way,but what if they aren't allowed any international participation in important events, sport, music or cultural activities for instance. They need to make changes that force their govt into staying civilised.

Exactly. Time to stand up against those who try to defend their actions, and unfortunately that includes a lot of 'ordinary' Israelis.

I actually do feel conflicted. I can think of three possibilities off the top of my head that I'd consider:

    1. Full international economic and political sanctions and total bans on all sporting and culture events (football, olympics, eurovision)
    2. Full international economic and political sanctions with bans on those competing/attending sporting/cultural events where it can be shown they are complicit in Israel's campaigns (IDF, Settlers, politicians, govt. staff etc.)
    3. Full international economic and political sanctions and no bans on sporting/cultural events but host countries to allow peaceful protests. Any argy bargy by Israelis swiftly and demonstrably dealt with

The first really does punish every single Israeli, home and abroad. Perhaps harsh but perhaps recognising that at least for the first 12 months, there was zero pushback from the vast majority of Israelis

The second allows "good" Israelis or those demonstrably against their Govt. for most of the last 22 months at least some participation - probably impossible to police

The third allows interaction by the Israeli public. But I'd say they'd be unlikely to travel abroad knowing that protests would be strong. For those Israelis already living abroad, I doubt many would attend or would make themselves "invisible"

The first seems about the only really workable proposal.

And in fairness, as we have all been schooled by pro-Israelis, there have been many calls for Palestinians in Gaza to overthrow Hamas and send them packing. Perhaps item 1 would crystallize that for all Israelis. Total ban until/unless you overthrow your murderous regime and actively/honestly start to make amends and make peace with all you neighbours.

I do see and I can't disagree with those who who might prefer options two and three - because I've considered them myself.

See what you've done to me @tayto lover

Seems the IDF have been caught lying - yet again… And I'm not sure if other posts here have the detail on plans to split the West Bank - of course, Smotrich accuses European leaders of being hypocrites - and seems to give Canada and Australia a free pass.

The IDF authority overseeing Gaza aid said on X that Israel allows the entry of humanitarian aid, while Hamas tries to exploit it to strengthen its military and control the population, sometimes using international organizations. It urged NGOs to be transparent, complete registration, and make sure aid reaches civilians, not Hamas.

"The Israel Defense Forces issued a statement on Tuesday, which was meant to refute claims made by Hamas in its so-called 'Starvation Campaign' blaming Israel for the deaths of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip due to malnutrition. However, experts who analyzed the statement found no evidence to prove that there is no famine in the Gaza Strip. On the contrary" – Nir Hasson

Israel's government is expected next week to approve settlement construction plans in the E1 area, which would effectively cut the West Bank in two, far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced. Smotrich praised the plan as "burying the idea of a Palestinian state," saying it's time to "apply Israeli sovereignty in Judea and Samaria," end the idea of dividing the land, and leave "Europe's hypocritical leaders" with nothing to recognize. He also thanked Netanyahu for supporting him in carrying out this "revolution" over the past two and a half years.

Remember the lads on here bigging up the IDF? They are nothing more than a rag tag bunch of cowards, petty thieves, thugs and terrorists.

"'In the past, all the soldiers listened to the officer and acted according to his orders,' a 60-year-old resident of the West Bank town of Ya'bad commented after the two days in late June when soldiers occupied several residential buildings, broke into 113 homes, and – according to testimony – stole cash and property without leaving the 'receipt' Palestinians sometimes receive. 'Today,' he continued, 'we see that every soldier behaves like a commander, doing whatever he wants, with no fear of higher rank. Back then, we could start some sort of dialogue with the officer. Today, that's impossible'" – Amira Hass

From that screen grab it looks like the person beside him is the bint that Louis Theroux interviewed and was posted before.

This is more of a summary of the documentary to give an idea of what is happening.

Just to add a second video to show the mindset from her.

Seems Halevi has been caught red handed - and uses the Hasbara against the State Comptroller (note - the report is not an enquiry, which Netanyahu has of course refused for 22 months)

Former IDF chief Herzl Halevi demanded that the state comptroller shelve final drafts of reports on the October 7 massacre that included harsh personal conclusions against him, to which the comptroller refused. According to information obtained by Haaretz, the reports were written without input from Halevi, who claims the comptroller refused to even meet with him.

Halevi and other senior IDF officials believe the comptroller has targeted them and built a false narrative against them, a source said. The comptroller said Halevi can voice his views publicly now, before the final reports are published

All their plans will come to nothing if a Palestinian state is declared and Israel is in turn cancelled - as a well meaning but absolutely failed post WW2 idea. Starving a captive population, surviving on the rubble of their homes, schools and hospitals is way beyond failure.

    "settler" scum -

"A mob of Israeli settlers attacked Palestinians who were out among their olive groves. Two young men were killed, tens were injured."

    @Odhinn
It's sickening what the Settlers do and that the IDF protect them is utterly abhorrent.

This is Israeli Govt. policy and it will only get worse.

Is there any nation on this planet who are so utterly corrupt and murderous as Israel?

Why is it that in every single RTE article ton their website relating to Gaza they have to refer to the “war” starting with the Hamas attack on October 7th?

Surely almost 2 years later they don’t need to mention this every single time? Is it due to “balance” or to give a “context”? There is no balance or context anymore, this is a genocide. Israel are every bit as bad as the Nazis.

All the anti islam guys always go on about muslims and Jihad and completely misunderstand the term. Yet they'll completely ignore this.

This is a guy who believes that God has chosen his people. He believes that God has given them a divine right to that land. And he believes that anything that he does is justified because he's enforcing Gods will.

So the ethnic cleansing and genocide in Gaza is ok. Ethnic cleansing in the westbank is ok. Settler violence is ok. It's actually all more than ok, it's necessary because to do otherwise would be sinful.

The Israeli far right is engaged in a holy war against the Palestinians. They want to erase any possibility of a palestinian state and they don't care if that involves erasing the Palestinian people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,814 ✭✭✭Bishop of hope

Hamas, Hezbolah and other Islamic organisations have always called their struggle with Israel as a jihad. Your post is probably not wrong re Nethanyahu and his govt, but don't think anything less of the Islamic side in regard to their views on their right to that land.

More on colonisation in the West Bank -

"Israel appears set to approve highly controversial 3,400-home West Bank settlement

Finance minister Bezalel Smotrich has said he believes E1 plan will ‘bury the idea of a Palestinian state’"

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/aug/14/israel-appears-set-to-approve-controversial-settlement-of-3400-homes-in-west-bank

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,155 ✭✭✭✭Grayson

I mean that anti islam people generally misinterpret what jihad means. It means "Struggle" and all muslims are required to be involved in Jihad. But in that context it means an internal struggle to live their lives as good muslims. It's mentioned a couple of times as struggle in terms of a physical fight, and that's the context islamic jihad use it in. But the anti islam people take the instruction for physical struggle to mean that all muslims at all times must be fighting non believers.

Interesting piece from Jeremy Bowen of the BBC. Long but well worth the read to help understand the situation in Israel. Pretty depressing too.

There's also a load of misinformation around how Christians are persecuted in Palestine and Lebanon where this is simply not the case, in general, while there may be some disagreements or tensions the cultures have co-existed for a very long time. I would imagine similar scenarios in many parts of Syria and Iraq.

Then we look at how Christians are treated in Israel and it's not dissimilar from how all the other non-Ashkenazi groups are treated.

    Always projection. Always.

I agree with Tucker Carlson in about 1% of his ideology but I'm wholly behind him on his attempts to bring down the American support for the apartheid state. Worth listening to his interview with this Greek Orthodox Nun.

Interesting to note she says the Muslims are respectful of anyone of any denomination whilst the Israelis regularly spit at her.

Anyway 677 days since Occupied Palestine started its genocide of the Palestinians. 677 days (+77 years) of Fuck Israel!

I have to laugh, when those who agree with North Korea, and Tucker Carlson, try to hold some sort of moral high ground.

The US has far more in common with North Korea than European countries today, so…

And they did create modern day nuclear North Korea.

I'm watching it and it's really just a nun explaining what it's like for christians in occupied Palestine.

Excellent article from Jeremy. It does show that Israeli society is in a very, very bad place. Most people are either denying that a genocide is underway or actively cheerleading for it (or are totally indifferent to it) - there can't be a single other country in the world that is battling these inner demons and huge contradictions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,861 ✭✭✭circadian

In general Tucker can go **** himself. However, it seems he's actually calling out Israel for what they're doing, as bizzare as that seems.

    Master of diplomacy…

Israel have become so emboldened by the unquestioning support of the US now I fear there is nothing they wont do. Gaza is gone. The latest Smotrich plan for the stealing the huge swathe of Palestinian land is just another testing of the boundaries. So long as the US sit back and stay silently complicit there is no hope for Palestine.

    It's beyond depressing.

Disgusting. No need for it. It's just for Gvir's perverse personal satisfaction, no other reason. He's a seriously nasty piece of work.

While I find Israel's conduct depressing, I find Israel supporters dismissal of what is happening in the West Bank frankly bewildering. If there is a rage and retribution angle to Gaza, what is their reasoning for the West Bank settlements.

As many of us have decided already, I am completely done with anyone who supports this stuff, especially within the context of the West Bank. For me, that means two people and one significant social group revolving around one of them, though others have abandoned him. Like you may as well argue that you like Hitler for his art and therefore support Nazi Germany. It makes no sense.

There is only one response for normal decent people and that is to condemn Israel. You don't have to support Palestine but you must condemn Israel. Israel's behaviour is so obviously wrong that the belief system it takes to support it is beyond me, it falls outside of politics entirely, and it simply means they are an abhorrent person. For an Irish person to support it is even worse.
