I’d be trying to get them down on the price of it tbh

We bought a 2008 6480 Massey in Jan with 10500 hours for 26k

She was a bit tatty but she was straight enough all the same. She’s cost us about 4 k since we bought her.

Those cvx’s have a good reputation

what did you need to do for the €4k. Was looking at something similar and am wondering what type of issues they. I have heard about some injectors problems.

    2nd hand rims 600€ powder coating 600€

I blew the engine ecu jumping her after I left the lights on over night. That was 1200€ and not the tractors fault

The front axle got rebushed and new king pin bearings - haven’t got the bill for that yet

    Full service.
Engine speed sensor and another sensor on the injector pump

    All in all nothing major
was told the Perkins engines give bother but touch wood she’s been fine for us so far as a spare tractor. Shes racked up 500 hours since we got her in Jan. been very helpful in getting through work when we’re busy

biggest issue with that model are half axles snapping, 4 local ones all ended up stranded on the road, after the above happened

Is that some kind of design flaw. It’s not something you would hear of often.

Will show my backwardsness now asking this but with over 11k hrs on the clock will it have a service history ?? Is there a stamped book or computer record for a tractor of that value.

Given the price of second hand tractors, the warranty (if any) is a joke. If a dealership is prepared to demand the current prices for new & second hand, they should be made stand over the machines to some degree.

They haven't the mechanics anymore to keep new ones going let alone the high houred trade ins, alot of dealerships locally are losing their expirenced mechanics who are going for handier jobs in the likes of Irish rail etc, had a issue here with the front pto on tractor dealer charged 1k labour for looking at it, thought a 2k part would fix it which it didn't and then said id have to drop over tractor to garage for it to be ripped apart basically, young lad sent out to it after asking around about him hasn't a bulls notion re electrics and would barley wire a plug, but still your expected to pay the above

I much prefer to buy a tractor privately rather than from a dealer. I bought from a dealership once and got badly stung. At least buying privately meant I got the tractor at a very reasonable price and had a good budget remaining for the repairs required. I'd to get the injectors and head gasket done on it as well as a new crankshaft damper pulley. I did alot of the ripping done on the tractor so the local mechanic had the heads off in no time saving on labour costs and as labour is hard got the mechanic was more eager to do the job as alot of the work was done e.g. removing bonnet, exhaust, hoses etc. It's good to be able to able to have a go at fixing older gear. Newest tractor we have is an 08 and I dread the day we have to get a newer tractor that needs to be plugged into a laptop.

    @dzer2 whats your budget?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,821 ✭✭✭Jb1989

Young cousin, exact same situation as your son. Bought a tm, 140 or so. €35000. Financed at least half it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,979 ✭✭✭dzer2

    Budget 38k or so

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 740 ✭✭✭PoorFarmer

I would imagine you would have the pick of NH TMs, Case MXMs for that kind of budget. Valtra Ts and McCormick MX series could also be an option. Wouldn't have much of an idea on JDs or MF but I'm sure somebody else would guide you on what might be with-in budget

talk to Ned Murphy in Enniscorthy

They have tractors or can source one from England. Have all the parts , new or 2nd hand and they’re really nice lads to deal with

It looks like a Kill Agri sticker falling apart in pic 4 so it could have been sold by Pat before. He is a genuine man to deal with and will look after you,and not just down the road around the corner out of sight.

Have a look at new Tractors while you are at it, I've seen both Same and Hew Holland have 0% finance over 7 years options now, I'm sure the others will try to compete for the business too

There's a lad that advertises on Donedeal, Machinery Sourcing Solutions, in Galway. I was in contact with him a while ago looking for something. At the time he had nothing to suit my poor budget but he rang me the last day saying he had a trade-in of a 160 HP McCormick. 6k hours and a fair few extras. He mentioned 37k so might be worth a look.
