Can't see it happening. TBH. But we should recognize that he repaid the full amount, I will mention it in the "megathread", so as not to derail the thread again.

Cynically he's going to be part of RTÉ TV autumn launch.

lmao took his sweet time didn't he?

No doubt he would have repaid it by himself quietly if it had never been mentioned publically and he just noticed the disparity himself. He's just so absorbed in his work and personal life money doesn't interest him.

More like through grinding teeth and clenched fists fighting every instinct of his body to keep the money, telling himself that in the long run it'll be worth more than 150k because this will make him able to come back to broadcasting in Ireland again - which is unfortunately true - does he finally agree to pay it back - and very loudly highlighting that he's doing it and he's happy to.

    The comeback train has started.

You were moaning because he didn’t pay the money back and now you are moaning that he has. Never happy are you?

Any news on who will replace him on Q102?

I could see a triumphant return to rte for Ryan as replacement for Duffy on LiveLine.

There would be outrage for a week, then it would all go back to normal.

He would be inundated with listeners wanting to send him free stuff.

if he gets that LLine gig I am emigrating - as a very ‘ prominent ‘ person once said. RT is the very opposite to the style/£personality that the show requires

I have a bad feeling they're looking at Arena as a way to slip him back into RTE's schedule. Liveline is too high profile a vehicle for a Tubridy comeback. An evening arts program which has just lost its presenter is another matter entirely. I don't think it's any coincidence that he's paying back that money at a time when there are vacancies arising in Radio 1.

No there is nothing confirmed about leaving Virgin Radio/Q102. There is nothing to say that he is returning to RTÉ Radio or TV.

We do know he will be reading one of President Higgins poems at a celebration of the President in Dublin in September, this may be televised by RTÉ at some point, this could be the reason he paid back the amount. But I don't see why this would get him to do so.

Potentially he is working with an Independent production company on a new TV show that will out in the autumn on RTÉ. But there is really nothing pointing to him Returning to RTÉ.

We will only find this out when RTÉ launch its new programming for 2025/2026 at the end of the month.

I can't see him getting Arena, in fairness to Rick O'Shea he seems to be doing an alright job anytime I have tuned in and RTÉ may wish to use him outside RTÉ Gold.

I can't see Ryan being able for a phone-in show. I can only see him retuning to RTÉ Radio if RTÉ decided to drop Ray D'Arcy.

All of this is pure conjecture, only time will tell.

I wouldn’t say his video is imminent as an RTE staffer but Pegasus an independently produced light and frothy Rte summer show next year night be enough to get him back into the public eye and get Evie away from RTE still that they have no accountability for his appearance. After that though I’d say he’d be free to come back as a full employee though. He won’t be getting the big gigs yet either but will be seen to when his way back up the ladder.

I’m saying this cynically by the way. Any other country would be in tatters and he’d have to get a real job. As a nation, we don’t really stand up to bullshit so just like a bit of time in the wilderness and coming back, so too will Tubbs, and we’ll like it!

Ryan Tubridy's fiancée Clare Kambamettu set to be Rose of Tralee judge.

Is this the reason the money was paid back?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,893 ✭✭✭Doodah7

What that got to do with his radio show on Virgin/Q102 and what this thread is about?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,075 ✭✭✭GSF

will his show come live from Tralee? Should be interesting for his English audience

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 79 ✭✭Mywifetoldme

Well, there seems to be more talk about the money being repaid than his actual radio show.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,896 ✭✭✭Cyclingtourist

I'm listening to him on The Ryan Tubridy Show Q102/Virgin Radio at the moment. Sounds as chirpy as ever, talking about U.S. political exiles/refugees in Ireland/UK/Europe and playing music.

No I don't see him getting the LL gig, not his forte. No one does misery like Joe Duffy, probably why he was paid so much and how few complained.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,828 ✭✭✭RoTelly

He is chirpy but is that good listening? I have listened to him over the last 2 years, and much of what is does is either Oirish-ness or talking to Irish people but little idea of him working in London on Virgin Radio, how does this sit with the UK audience.

If he returns to RTÉ it will be for the Ray D'Arcy Show.

Virgin Radio are in the midst of yet another schedule overhaul so he might be impacted by that. They seem to be moving away from celebrity presenters and back to music DJs

given how much time off Darcy has, they may as well jobshare

In fairness he takes less time off than any of the other daytime presenters except Louise. We can forgive his current absence.

For what it’s worth that insider telegram account previously referenced says:

Tubs has been given his “marching orders” from Virgin - with minimum notice - and he is scrambling for his next gig …

apparently he has made the square root of fcuk all impact on the UK audience market so is forced to look back to Dublin ?!?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,075 ✭✭✭GSF

Emma B likely being lined up for the Virgin Radio slot he currently occupies- what that means for FM104 Gcd only knows!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,160 ✭✭✭✭Beechwoodspark

    Emma Bunton????

She is several “stardom levels” above Tubridy - hence the panic to return to dear old Ireland all of a sudden??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,075 ✭✭✭GSF

Emma Boughton currently doing cover - ex Magic, Heart and bbc Radio 1

they just had a glitch and went to the emergency back up tape on Q102.

Back now with some awkward transitions between Dublin and London.

Also - Virgin seem to have gone slightly rockier with the music which sounds somewhat out of place on Q .. nice to hear Alanis ‘You Oughta Know’ though (yes, it was the radio edit!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,075 ✭✭✭GSF

the playlists are now so divergent that it makes no sense to simulcast the show on Q102

And Tubs will soon be back on Irish tv, a new show early next year.

But its not on Rte. But I'm sure he, and his super agent, are happy.
