I came into this thread hoping for a bit of nuance but, like, Hogan compared to Benoit not Hogan compared to possibly maybe dying of syphilis.

The internet isn't a great place for nuance much of the time. The wider public who enjoyed wrestling on a casual basis throughout Hogan's heyday will remember him fondly. For the IWC, particularly those who came to wrestling after Hogan exited the scene as a main event player, it'll be a much more contentious legacy.

The thing that gets me is those in the IWC who can't even give it a week's grace period. Not that they have to turn around and say that he was really a good guy. Just even to cool it for a few days before resuming what they would have already been saying anyway. No, he wasn't Benoit, who killed his whole family. He wasn't McMahon, who has serious rape allegations against him. As far as I know, Hogan has never had any major criminal accusations like that on his record. He didn't even have a reputation of hurting his opponents.

The two main points against him were backstage politicking and the racist comments. On the backstage politicking, ie refusing to put people over, Hogan wasn't exactly singularly guilty of this. The idea that egotistical wrestlers would put their spot in jeopardy for the good of the business is a noble one, but a little naive. We saw it with Michaels, we saw it with the set (including Hogan) who used their creative control clauses to hold down younger talent in WCW, we saw Triple H's reign of terror, too.

The racist comments were not OK, but there seems to be a drive to define him as a racist based on words said 18 years ago without looking at his code of conduct throughout his whole life, and if he's clean on the latter, could there not at least be a question that racism was not in his heart at the point he died? I don't know the answer to that one, but it seems like a few others think they do.

Great wrestler but certainly an imperfect man.

D-Von Dudley did an interview where he discusses the racist comments and what Hogan did to address it. I doubt it will assuage any doubters but as others have said there are almost no people who haven't made mistakes big or small in their life. In terms of the industry there's nobody bigger or with a greater legacy to the fans.

'Brooke Hogan saw Hulk Hogan's body earlier this week, and confirms he had an autopsy and looked 'ready to go in the ring.'

Brooke Hogan told Bubba The Love Sponge today that Clearwater Police invited her to review all the body cam footage from the day Hulk Hogan passed and she praised them for being “very thorough.”

She also says Sky has been “super cooperative” and thanked the funeral home for letting her see her dad.

She also tells Bubba there will be some more information in regards to the investigation on her father to be released to the public, but she is unsure of when that will happen.'

So Hogan didnt get buried after his funeral ?
