I have on,restarted UDM, no joy.

I'll change the name,in few mins.

    I dont have discord,my fella has it,ill ask to post a q up there...tks

    Ok.

Restarted again...this time, got an IP v6 address and traffic spikes with packets but still no internet traffic:destination unreachable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 561 ✭✭✭NotShero

Yeah maybe just leave it for a little while to see if it gets any further, are you getting an IPv4 address?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 79 ✭✭Boards_Member

    No IP v4, just a v6.

    Playing with DS-Lite...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 561 ✭✭✭NotShero

You shouldn't have to do anything with that as DS-Lite is removed when connected to the WAS-110 afaik. Have you tried with the "Fix VLANs" option disabled?

Wih DSlite on and host "aftrxx.abc.aa" i have v4 but no v6.

Next, to unplug the WAS,reconfigure my LAN and try the remove VMIE and fix VLANs options, back in WAN port and try it.

Nope...only a v6 and no valid traffic through. Played with all possible settings until i've exhausted my guesses.

    Back to Hub interface.

Thanks for your patience and help.

Setting the DS-Lite AFTR address to aftr01.upc.ie might get you working IPv4, but not much better than just using the provided router I'd imagine.

I've stopped playing as everytime i set the SFP on the UDM, my Hub goes red and i have to reset to default... seems the VM exchange may pick some atrange traffic and puts my line on "isolation mode" or simillar, dunno...but for me the challenge is closed for now.

Waiting for a Broadcom 25Gb SFP card, ill test again via the router 10Gb Eth then call VM and ask why not getting near 5Gb,advertised speeds ! I havent seen or heard anyone having 5Gb speeds yet..

Do you have to to request a ipv4 address from virgin to get this to work? Guys over on the discord recommended to try that.

Have added all the config details, enabled vlan 10 and Mac spoofing on ubiquity CGF and just can't get it to work.

    Thanks

No, as people who have used one successfully have not had “modem mode” so don’t have “IPv4 only mode”. There is no way of getting “modem mode” in the UK as It’s been mentioned that it’s because they are loosing some network monitoring capabilities so they have removed it. This is not the case in Ireland, it’s just that CGNAT is being used.

That’s why people have looked to get a WAS-110 to begin with, if they were able to get technical support to enable “IPv4 only mode” they wouldn’t have needed to get a WAS-110.

The Hub seems to be the piece that enables CGNAT, once it’s removed with a WAS-110 it should just get a dynamic IPv4 address afaik.

I can see why they have suggested that as the next step if everything else has been tried but that’s not the issue afaik.

You have cloned the MAC address of the Hub 5x and set VLAN ID 10 on your own router, for sure yeah. Those are the differences between the UK and Ireland and those seem to be the bits that a few people were getting stuck on.

I thought this was the case. I did manage to get virgin to switch me over to ipv4 after I got the router/fiber upgrade anware the 5x didn't have modem mode. After they said they switched I wasn't able to get internet on the 5x until I reset the router.

Not sure where I am going wrong. I cloned the Mac address on the WAS-110 and on the CGF, then just 'C4:EB:43:00:00:01' on the WAS-110 and actual MAC address on the CGF with vlan 10.

Still no joy, I will try again as I believe it's on the CGF side as I am getting O5.1, Associated state.

Yeah you’ve seemed to try everything and it seems to be very similar to what is happening to @Boards_Member also.

@SizzleQuote @tazzzZ @Thor have all gotten it working, maybe they might be able to help?

Havent seen any proof rhat works on VM Ireland.

My software version is higher or , different.

Could be that they added extra authentication parameters... could be Radius, could be that sw_v check ...fails.

Unless we get a "optical wireshark" OR inside intelligence...we just keep guessing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 561 ✭✭✭NotShero

Multiple people have gotten it working earlier in this thread, with 5Gb speed tests also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 charlie_69

Hopefully they can share any thoughts.

Bit more digging last night and it appears vlan 10 was down on my CGF for the SFP+ port after ssh in even though it was showing enabled on the UI, set up vlan 10 through command and I was assigned a ipv6 address but no ipv4. Gave up and switch back to the hub and couldn't get internet either till I factory reset the hub. Maybe you do need to request a switch to an ipv4 address with VM now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 561 ✭✭✭NotShero

I don’t think so as none of the people who got it working did afaik. Someone on the Discord said they’ve seen issues with routers not applying the MAC address cloning properly so it could be more of an issue with Ubiquiti but @tazzzZ did get it working on a UDMP.

If I was to guess I would say It’s when the Hub 5x is connected again it’s expecting CGNAT and DS-Lite and because the WAS-110 was connected they were removed so a factory reset of the Hub might authenticate with Virgin’s servers again to request it to go back, like if you reset it after an agent had turned on “IPv4 only mode”, it goes back to CGNAT and DS-Lite.

So I don’t think it’s needed when you’re using a WAS-110, it’s already requesting a dynamic IPv4 address. But maybe Virgin have very recently put some block in place to keep future proper dynamic IPv4 address for business users.

There’s no harm in asking for IPv4 from Virgin though but they don’t seem very willing to do it anymore.

Managed to get this working this morning. Issue now is all my LAN devices are either not showing when connected or showing incorrectly within the CGF 😓

What was the issue in the end or did it just start working?

Do you have an Internet connection with the devices? Is the DHCP range like 192.168.0.10 - 192.168.0.250 on the same subnet as the local IP address of the CGF like 192.168.0.1.

Apologies for the delay. Yeah been working awhile now. No issues. Will read through the thread now and provide details if needed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 charlie_69

The only thing I changed back was the software version to 5.7.5-2402.3 and turned off the hub for about 30 minutes before trying it again and left the was-110 plugged in for about 30 minutes and it pulled a public IP address. Very strange.

Fixed the other issue too, restarted all devices plugged into my switch .

Thanks again for all the info.

Hey! Mine just stopped working over the weekend. Getting a IPv6 that do work for internet access, but no IPv4 at all. Tried calling them again to request IPv4 mode but didn't worked. Will try reverting back to Hub 5x in the weekend to see what happens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 478 ✭✭tazzzZ

    Still working here…

So I just followed the directions given in relation to the WAS-110.

I set the VLAN ID - 10 on my UDMP not the WAS

And then MAC address clone set on my UDMP and its been working perfectly for me.

Anyone knows if i can get a static IPv4 on the 5Gb bband as a home/residential account ? Tks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 561 ✭✭✭NotShero

No you can’t, you’d have to be a business customer.

Their dynamic IPv4 addresses that are not CGNAT on coax or through the WAS-110 are quite sticky though and don’t change much afaik.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,072 ✭✭✭Glaceon

I remembered having the same IP with them for over a year at one stage, even with modem and router reboots (they were separate devices at the time).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 561 ✭✭✭NotShero

To get a dynamic IP address that’s not CGNAT with Virgin through Virgin FTTP you’d have to use a WAS-110 or ask Virgin for “IPv4 only mode” on the Hub 5x

    Thank You.

Need to setup a conditional access rule to match my static IP address.

Cant upgrade the existing residential, cant cancel it… i have Eir and VM,dont want to get Eir again as i have static with them and two lines with same provider=failure if both offline.

Hmm,can i get a second VM line installed on same address and mark it as "business account"?
