The yellow warning looks very orange on my TV, too. Definitely something that should be rectified. Just now on the 9 o'clock news:

    20250803_210540.jpg

Hopefully there's no damage in the NW and the tourists are sensible about activities. I'm taking it at face value that it's not even necessary to move the plant pots to shelter here in N Kildare.

The NW is going to get the brunt of the wind with gusts of up to 100km possible in places. This isn't going to be a crazy storm or anything but it's still a yellow warning so at the very least I'd suggest weighing down the trampoline with some blocks or something.

I said this yesterday with a picture, was this today you took that picture? If so they made the same mistake twice now

Wind warning doesn't kick in until 2am for Clare, Galway, Mayo & Sligo.

4am for Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan and Leitrim.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Tried digging through the archives to find a comparable tracking storm and strength for Scotland in the month of August, seems unusual enough. Closest I could find is 24th August 2005 which had a wind gust of 101 mph at North Rona Island (98m above sea level). Was a bit further northward than Floris is projected to be. Belmullet had a wind gust of 104 km/h on the previous day the 23rd with widespread gale gusts though not unusual.

Wind speeds don’t look too bad here but trees in full leaf and a good few probably weakened from Eowyn. ECM a monster for Scotland.

this could be there slightly less effective storm Eowyn , I wouldn’t be surprised if a small area was to go red warning ⚠️

In rural Mayo for the hols. About to leave the pub, (ssshhh). It's fairly blustery with heavy rain but not something I'd be worried about driving in. Forecast suggests it will get worse. Hopefully my lift gets here soon.

Will update later when I get back to B&B. If I stay awake!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,815 ✭✭✭KaneToad

Ok. Back at my (temporary) base. No real perceptible weather change other than the rainfall easing off significantly. Level of blusteryness is still the same.

If I had an unsecured trampoline, I'd be worried but I don't think the roof of the house is going to come off. That said, it is still early days.

Hopefully no damage/injury to anyone. Night, night.

Floris has Just woken me up with wind and rain blowing in my window in the SW. Fairly mild otherwise.

It's mild but very blustery - mist has turned to rain but not exceptional but I expect a few trees may come down all the same

Wind in Galway was pretty strong around 4am to 6am with heavy rain, for some reason it felt very noisey in the house possibly the direction it was coming from, 7k with out power in the West 3k in Tuam

Phew, polytunnel made it thru some sharp gusts but gladioli, cosmos and other tall flowers snapped off. Luckily the tree lillie's and window boxes also survived. All in all, not too bad for this exposed ridge. 😊

A strong storm for Scotland even by their standards considering it's early August. It's a bank Holiday in Scotland as well which makes it more impact full. It's unusual to have a home grown Storm ( no hurricane remnants) this early with 90 MPH gusts .

Very gusty about 7am. Heavy Rain and now drizzle. Leitrim.

The 104 km/h gust reported by the Malin Head station in Donegal is the strongest recorded in Ireland in over 5 months. On February 20th, Valentia Observatory in Kerry experienced a 109 km/h gust.

On holiday in France at the moment, but the local newspaper headline reads "Heavy rainfall and gusts exceeding 130km/h: Storm Floris is coming. Will the French Riviera be affected?". Definitely a slow news day 🙄

Also a sustained wind of 76 km/h, its highest since 80 km/h during storms Ellen and Francis in August 2020. Only 9 August days here have had a stronger sustained wind since 1955.
