I remember some of our more…erm….*prolific* far-right contributors quoting Orwell or even going so far as to having their footer quote him. I always felt that there was a degree of irony in their use of Orwell’s words while supporting the very mindset that helped build the nightmarish dictatorship of Oceania that’s shown in his famous 1984 book.

They probably posted those words with the mistaken impression that liberal democracy was somehow being oppressive. Outside of their far-right bubble their nonsense would be called out with facts, and their racism would be called out for the disgusting behaviour that it is. They probably think of these reactions as the work of the «Thought Police» and that being a racist nitwit was being characterised as «Wrong-think». They need that framework, otherwise they’re little more than racist idiots…and that’s no fun at all (would require introspection…and learning…bleh!).

MAGAworld is sort of a pocket Oceania, but thankfully isn’t the entire US yet. If the Dems do get their act together they cannot muck about with education anymore. US Education needs to be rebuilt and reinforced. It’s the only cure to this level of mass delusion. People need critical thinking skills, and that’s what school is for.

Only then will you question the state, when they tell you that «Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia«.

That's business language, I wouldn't expect you to understand it, but in layman's terms, it means four times more chocolate.

Think Bessent was talking about jobs and finance and in the same breath on some TV show recently, talked about an increase in job numbers, how they removed 70k thousand jobs from federal government and the buoyant returns because of tariffs. So, in that sentence it turns out the job numbers were wrong, a lot less than has been mentioned, they removed 70 thousand jobs from people and in turn, added them to the jobless numbers and to kick them further when they are down, reached into their pockets to pay for the tariffs. I really don't know how they are getting away with it. Should be widespread protests all over the country.

A lot of people are afraid to protest. A lot of people over there are simply afraid of Trump.

For all their talk of the land of the free, home of the brave, they're really a gutless shower, who tend not to do anything until it hurts them directly. At which point its too late.

At least in Europe, people would be on the streets and opposition politicians would be looking at ever avenue to oust or at least hurt the group in charge. In the US, crickets. Another comedy news show takes the pìss, everyone laughs and theres no real pushback.

At this stage there should be 10s of millions out protesting until the goons in Congress at least read the room and realise its time to cut their losses.

I guess the nature of their system is that there isn't really any party leader so to speak that they can coalesce around and who can be putting forward that message of the reality of the impact to average Joe.

They don't have that strong personality leader type from what I can see

All the talk of “checks and balances” too and the right to be “armed against tyrants”

Now that a tyrant is destroying both checks and balances and systematically dismantling the republic … crickets

I noticed some now shifted goals to talk about state rights but Trump is **** all over those too, eg calling in marines and national guard in California

I guess the day when unidentified ICE thugs arrive at their own door to revoke their naturalised citizenship and drag em off to El Salvador they be saying “and then they came for me” while being dragged away

Or, maybe people aren't really that upset.

They don't care until it affects them. Firing some statistician? Getting rid of faceless bureaucrats? Reducing medicare for others?

If it doesn't impact them directly they don't care. And if it does impact them then when they complain they will be told to 'get a job'.

Immigrants? Nobody is going to protest.

The tax bill? They don't read past the headlines. So No Tax on Tips is all they see or hear about.

Trumps approval rating are relatively good. Lower than anyone else but far from being universally hated

AFAIK some had sentences commuted, convictions not pardoned.

The Trump regime's attempts to re-write history gets more extreme. The Smithsonian has apparently removed references to Trump's two impeachments. However now they deny that there was any pressure from the White House and that there would be an appropriate reference restored in a few weeks. (Ho, Ho)

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/art/2025/08/02/trump-impeachment-smithsonian-restore/

Just to make sure that the true historical record is not forgotten, I think we should henceforth refer to Twice-Impeached-Trump as TIT. And if he gets impeached a third time hw will still be a TIT.

There seems to be an epidemic of name calling on this thread, reminds me of primary school and the majority of posts I’d assume are treated at the same level by passers by.

Regarding that lady, on her business acumen she’s still has a lot to learn but is still young and has a bright future, if all else fails then she can follow the steps of Nancy Pelosi into a career of stealing taxpayers money with insider trading.

You have a problem with name-calling?

Never saw you criticise Trump, the current POTUS, for doing that.

    Curious.

Trump fans complaining about name-calling is peak irony.

Really, I’ve criticised Trump plenty of times, and it is childish when he does it too, but the hypocrisy of posters on here doing the same thing is rather unbearable, oh but he’s the president, give over, thankfully we are now back to a world where if someone is an idiot then we can call them an idiot, but calling karoline leavitt a bimbo just wreaks of jealousy and needs to be called out for what it is, the woman is doing a remarkable job for her age.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,554 ✭✭✭✭everlast75

    Super.

Should we gloss over the fact that you criticized people for name-calling, and then called those people school children?

But you've just bypassed admitting that Trump is a notorious name caller who has said far worse. I can't recall you ever criticizing Trump, you even went as a far as claiming a 1000% reduction was some unknown business term that you couldn't back up.

While I personally don't agree with using the term bimbo, Leaving is not remotely remarkable. She's an example of Trump picking an appearance that he likes and nothing more. Hence his bizarre comments on her lips.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,145 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

Bimbo is the kindest thing that could be said as that would imply she isnt aware enough to know she is lying for a vile administration, picked for her looks. It'd be much worse if she knows she is peddling lies to support Trumps vile agenda and is just an amoral shill or true MAGA believer.

When was the last time you posted unprompted criticism of Trump?

Trump called the head of the reserve a moron... you didnt jump in criticising him. You jumped in trying to defend him putting pressure on the Fed Reserve, and could only do so by misrepresenting something you link dumped.

To try to present this argument so soon after that is completely self discrediting.

Your posts here wrt Trump and his critics are blatant examples of hypocrisy and double standards.

You're someone who wants to indefinitely detain homeless people for the crime of being homeless.

Don't tell me you're thin-skinned enough to be put out by a bit of name calling?

Especially when trumps modus operandum is name calling.

Seems to me that 90% of the nicknamed are either Democrats of never-Trumper Republicans. Just typical of low-IQ MAGA abuse. However I stand by TIT 😊

It's eerily similar to Germany in the 1930s, no push back by the general population against policies that didn't affect them directly, until it was too late

Vigilantes going around rounding up undesirables? I'm talking about ICE here, not the SA nazi thugs

I'm glad you said Europe and not Ireland. Ireland is full of cowards.

In any of these European countries do you think people would be afraid of being jailed or worse?

Americans down through the years have been strong protesters.

They are afraid of Trump and his maga army. Once that's gone they will be back to normal.

Trump tried to take Rosie O'Donnell's citizenship. She's not the only one he went after. He's racist and homophobic.

He's capable of anything, people are right to be seriously concerned for their futures.

Saw a great point on a youtube clip, Trump was asked if he's aware obama has immunity, Trump replied he was aware but the people who worked for obama don't...

So there ya go trumps maga team could well be thrown under the bus when the **** hits the fan

    Starter for 10:

What do you call someone who likes to hang around changing areas at teen (underage) beauty contests as the girls are undressing?

    Followup question:

Why would such a person be starting the process to pardon a notorious trafficker of underage girls?

As you're being reminded of primary school, maybe you'll now remember what your primary school teacher said about how percentages work?
