Supposedly a reliable Slovenian newspaper is reporting Sesko has chosen Newcastle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,566 ✭✭✭Ninthlife

Just saw similar..offer exceeding 90m euro

**other reports saying no decision made aa per Romano stating no decision will be made today. Other reports saying Klopp advised Sesko to choose Newcastle..

More drama than an Eastenders Xmas special

Yeah rumour is that Newcastle have greatly increased their contract terms and that has swayed him.

Now first of all, if that's true then they can have him. Of course money has to play a part but if he's gone from wanting United to wanting whoever pays the most, that's not what we want.

Secondly, it may well be absolute bull.

if true, that's disappointing. we prob had like a 72hr window to move and potentially dithered again.

I'd imagine tomorrow will be the decisive day and his path should be fairly clear by then. Could be pretty indicative that there were stories today that united were waiting on sesko's approval before lodging a bid...perhaps this was the result

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,943 ✭✭✭NITRO95

In what possible way have Utd dithered? Officially theres been indirect contact between Utd and RBL. Unofficially the belief is that talks have advanced further than indirect contact.

As pointed out above if he's been swayed by more money being on offer from NUFC than fine that's not the type of person we want to be signing anyway.

Again, this is all based on a nobody saying Sesko has chosen NUFC, so very likely its bullshit.

they've had 60-85m ready, not needing a sale. just pull the trigger with a bid.

they did it with mbuemo. sesko i presume wasn't so enamored with the charms.

IIm an absolute minority but still think hojlind could do just the same job as sesko.

Baleba from Brighton should be next priority. Cuhna and Mbeumo should do massive the gs with our attack.

No.9 is absolutely needed but that could wait till next summer if needed. Both 10's signed will bolster our attack

Gaping hole of ball playing box to box needed

It's ludicrous to suggest United dithering has cost them the deal as if Leipzig are so dumb to just accept that and not wait for Newcastle's response.

I don't care about Sesko. The most worrying part is Newcastle's determination suggests Isak is off to Liverpool and we will be lightyears behind them, if we weren't already.

Simon Harris is monitoring the situation...

I would have thought clubs would have players insured for a specified transfer value, maybe linked to contract years left?

I think they do have insurance on career ending injuries, but no idea how they work.

So if a policy is valued at 50m, even paying out 2(?) years salary would still leave a value on the claim.

Most large businesses have a death in service benefit that's paid to the employees family should they pass away while in employment. My own employer for example would pay my wife and kids 4 times my annual salary if I was to die. Liverpool paying DJ's widow the remainder of his contract is probably not the act of selfless act of altruism some would have you believe, most likely it's a contractual obligation.

The reports are Newcastle offered more money.

I'm not bothered I'd still much rather have Watkins or someone like Mateta, we can't be relying on another young striker.

    In other news....

Sesko prefers us however Newcastle have the finances to outbid us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,397 ✭✭✭Quags

If he goes to Newcastle then he goes, United look like they are starting to operate a policy of players only wanting to play for United and not a massive wage to help them decide.

I will wait personally for Ornstein to tweet something

This is where the overspending for past decade kinda comes back to bite you.

Don't want be paying stupid dough either all same.

    EVENFLOW

    100%

Lets not forget that Newcastle could and probably did offer higher wages than us for Mbeumo, but he didn't care.

His priority was playing for United, not earning the highest wage.

If Sesko has other priorities, then thanks but no thanks.

And that's IF he has other priorities. As others have said absolutely nobody of any credibility has reported this.

And if it does end up that way, nothing to do with United "dithering". That's nonsense.

Newcastle have had their nose bloodied a couple of times already this window so it wouldn't surprise me if they did offer him mad money. Good luck to him and them but that's a stupid game that we are still paying for and that I don't want to see us having any part in.

Yup. Add to that the seeping away of some of the prestige from intermittent European football. Very understandable why we’re not the best destination anymore.

I was a fan of going for Delap. Think he’d have been a good signing at that price, particularly if known both Mbeumo and Cunha were coming. No european football though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,493 ✭✭✭fatherted1969

That was a decision he could come to regret, he may see very little football compared to his minutes on the field last season. As much of a basket case Utd is i think the signs are there that they're trying to get it right, I get no sense that Chelsea are.

Probably too early to tell with the Sesko stuff. Sky Sports lad who reports on Newcastle believes it’s premature to say he’s chosen them at this stage. He did say they’ve made a formal bid. Nothing from Ornstein since, I’d wait for him to say something.

I think Sesko is an exciting prospect but certainly a risk. I said a few days ago that it’s a risk worth taking but now that I think about, it’s going to take over €75m to get the deal done and probably at the detriment of a midfielder and goalkeeper signing.

I won’t be overly upset if we miss out on Sesko to Newcastle and have to pivot to Watkins or Mateta. Premier league proven is what we need

Hopefully David Ornstein comes out with an update soon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,229 ✭✭✭talla10

I thought the narrative all summer was we needed to sell before we could buy. None of our "bomb squad" players look close to getting any sort of deals done which would allow us to make an offer capable of landing Sesko- It illustrates now how important to our plans winning the EL was.

If Sesko wants United he will have to be patient- If he's another player looking for the best payday Newcastle can have him.

If prefer a midfielder to be brought in before a striker tbh.
