That was pure blitzkrieg cricket from England that session. Plane waiting to take them home, it will be a test of India's heart how they respond.

England are down to three fast bowlers but India started with three and they're all under pressure going at over 6. It could get very ugly.

India far better after lunch. Pope gone now, 147/3. Brook got away with one there playing a poor shot. England still well on top.

Bethells dismissal… his bat was about a foot maybe more away from making contact with the ball. the most plumb lbw you’ll ever see and weirdly he gets nowhere near to getting bat on it…

A few minutes before he came out he was on camera up in the pavilion having a grand old laugh, lying back on a chair and looking like he was having a lovely day out for himself as if he was on the balcony of a hotel in Torremolinos.. only thing missing was a Pina Colada… the cricket ball wasn’t missing the stumps🍹

    Good fight back from India.

Absolutely, didn't see it coming at all. Brook is key here, for both sides!

Test is moving fast. Enjoyable to see the bowlers on top after all the toil they had to put in during the series.

Rain stopping the fun. Brook was about to go mad. Good fightback by three quicks. Plenty of assistance it must be said, it makes their first session's effort look more pitiful.

All over. England lead by 23. This is a big opportunity for India batting conditions are due to be good tomorrow. They need to bat through this evening sensiblly. If England take 2-3 quick wickets, it'll be very hard for India to save the series.

After an excellent series Rahul has been poor in this match. India leas by 27.

Dawson drops a dolly. Can say what you want about the light etc but he didn’t have to move his feet an inch and it goes through his hands. As I type Crawley drops another one, a more difficult chance but that’s three gone down in this innings.

Seeing the replays, two gimmies and one slightly challenging one.

Glad that the last test is tight.

As an aside, was out playing with my 2 kids in the park this evening. A Bangladeshi man approached us and showed us a good batting stance. We’ve never learned and he seemed delighted to see Irish people playing.

think if you are an Indian batsman, trying to play yourself in, hot and overcast conditions, you’d be licking your lips at the prospect of Jacob Bethell bowling the first or second over of the day…bizarre captaincy, especially with a night watchman, a genuine number 9 out there.

umpires call saves Deep, then England drop another one next ball, 4 drops in this innings, not a difficult one.

Beginning to look ominous for England. Lead is 140 - 8 wickets in hand. They've had chances but taken none of them. Loads of time in the game, though the weather isn't great on Monday. They're really missing Woakes. The only thing is they only need a draw, India have to win, so India do need to push on at some point to build a big lead, get England in and time to bowl them out. Big few days ahead.

Deep gone, coming into this test he averaged 7.46 or something, but here he scores plenty. A half century.

English bowlers just can’t seem to find that good fourth stump channel. Again as I type, harmless full delivery down leg. More verbals as the teams leave the field for lunch.

Interesting a couple of overs ago, Root jogged over to Pope, slightly animated, gesturing and shaking his head. Wonder if the common sense thing might have been to revert back to Root as captain…given the importance of this test.

Amazing 180 turn from this time yesterday. Long two sessions ahead for England and India are well in command.

Big wicket 1st ball after lunch. Gill gone. Lead 166..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,247 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

first ball after lunch and Atkinson gets Gill. Talk about a shot in the arm. Can they follow it up and get at the tail.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,247 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

nope, Brook now drops Nair…..4th dropped catch of the innings.. ohhh but not costly as Smith takes a good catch off Atkinsons bowling to get Nair. Now, crucial session.

Duckett drops Jaiswal, tough chance though… need to be better taking these chances.

    327 for 7 India, lead by 304

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,247 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

what’s with all the short stuff ? And leg side deliveries ?….6’s a plenty, T20 mode for Sundar, bowl full and straight !

Poor execution by the bowlers and poor captaincy by Pope. Now no slips and field spread far and wide.. speaking of wide.. Tonge bowls two wides in a row .. more deliveries down leg, jeez.

    Jeeez short and more 6’s

    374 to win for England

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,481 ✭✭✭MFPM

Loads of time for England, notwithstanding some weather about tomorrow and Monday. They'll go for it I suspect, they can afford to draw whereas India have to win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,247 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

problem here is Duckett seems to have a dodgy handle, a few times the ball goes passed the edge of the bat and there is an audible clicking, weird.

Umpires ⚠️ Duckett hit on the hand and straight away the umpires over hurrying the physio. Meanwhile they ain’t so proactive as regards Indians when they want unscheduled drinks breaks / tactical chats, treatments, wipe downs and whatever multiple other reasons they have for taking a break..

second last ball of the day and Siraj bowls Crawley. Excellent delivery but on first watch a tired looking shot I thought but maybe I’m wrong, that swung late and by some distance…

    See it again here….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,634 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Crawley must be wishing now he didn't chance his luck at bit more. Got a bit bogged down. But then 50-0 at stumps would have been a great start to the chase. Difficult to be critical of him, paced it similarly at Headingley.

Tomorrow England will want to put overs into the three quick's legs but not let them settle into long spells. First innings they let Siraj and Akash bowl 9 and 10 over spells after lunch and it turned the game upside down. If England can get the spinners on early, they'll win. Wonder would Woakes come out if it's like ten runs needed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,634 ✭✭✭Gillespy

India have started really well. Every ball on the money. England hanging in there, taking singles well. If England get these, it will be by far the best of the three 370 chases against India. Even though Bumrah bowled in the other two, pitch is far more challenging here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,634 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Bad error in judgement by Siraj stepping on the boundary cushion while catching Brook. Had loads of time and space to take it comfortably. Brook looking very dangerous.

They probably should have gone to spin for the half hour before lunch.

Simon Harris is monitoring the situation...
