He's using ROG Strix X570-I motherboard (mini ITX) so no spare PCIe for NIC unfortunately but it has plenty of USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports. The adapter is Sabrent NT-C5GA. URLs for Motherboard and Adapter below since I can't post links yet even though this account is from 2019, must need a certain number of posts. 🙃

The weirdest thing is all the USB Type A ports are only giving 320Mbs down which seems like USB 2.0 speeds? He even went out and bought a new USB 3.2 Type C to A adapter and it's still the same. Only the USB Type C port gives 1.6Gbs before it dies.

He has newest BIOS, newest Realtek and AMD Chipset drivers. Tried disconnecting all other USB and playing around with Power Management, no change. Ethernet cable between Hub and PC is super short pre terminated Cat6, no damage.

I'm running out of ideas. 😓

Yeah it looks like you’ve tried nearly everything. The only thing would be to try the adapter with a different PC, if you had one, to narrow down the issue further because it does sound like there are issues with that PC with the USB A ports and the adapter shouldn’t be disconnecting even if it’s running at lower speeds.

I presume they have installed this new driver? - https://www.realtek.com/Download/List?cate_id=585

Nope, never ever… even with fibre, SFPs, CAT7, Intel and Broadcom NICs, with and without UDM , different PCs and OSes and so on.

Top 2500 down but constant 500 up

I found the the speed negotiation process can be flaky, and you're sometimes better off forcing the duplex speed yourself

    Screenshot 2025-07-31 180655.png

You can tell what its currently running at here:

    Screenshot 2025-07-31 180805.png

    See "Aggregated Link Speed".

Also, you might want to update the drivers for the USB device yourself. 99% of those USB adapters use a Realtek chip, and you can find the drivers here:

Well...decided in playing with the WAS110/8311 version...

Connected to a UDM Pro WAN port...just doesnt wanna play fair...have the optics ON rx & tx, 05.1 state...hmmm

Maybe UDM setup is different ??

Have you entered all the Virgin Media settings? Have you cloned the MAC address and do you have VLAN ID 10 set?

PON Serial Number (ONTID) = (PON serial number from label on Hub 5x)

Equipment ID = F5685LGB (This is probably different in Ireland, check label?)

Hardware Version = 1.2.1b (Might be different?)

Tick Sync Circuit Pack Version option.

    Software Version A+B = 3.7.4-2306.5

    MIB File = /etc/mibs/prx300_1V_bell.ini

IP Host MAC Address = (MAC on Hub label)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 79 ✭✭Boards_Member

Cloned the MAC address on the WAS110 (need to do it on the UDM as well? )

Equipment ID it has VMIE at the end.

MY hub software version is 5.7.5-2402.3

VLAN10 In the WAN network port of the UDM.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 565 ✭✭✭NotShero

All those settings have to be entered on the WAS-110, have you done that yeah?

Yes the MAC address has to be cloned on the UDM also and VLAN ID 10 is needed on the UDM.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 79 ✭✭Boards_Member

    Done all.

    Going to restart the UDM...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 79 ✭✭Boards_Member

    NOpe...red light .

Checked discord, checked YT,checked the blog...hmmm...not getting an IP v4 at all while for IPv6 asks me for some prefix size, just put 64.

Setup a static route to be able to access the SFP from LAN side..that doesnt work either even if is done properly in the UDM network config.

I have a gut feeling might be "the double "MAC address, one for the SFP and second same for the WAN port on the UDM...

Try entering IP Host MAC Address = C4:EB:43:00:00:01 on the WAS-110 and clone the MAC address of the Hub 5x on the UDM.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 79 ✭✭Boards_Member

Yeap...ill have to play around but back with original MAC on UDM, ping the 192.168.11.1 still fails...so no MACing issue here.

Hated that i cant see the gui or cli for the WAS110...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 565 ✭✭✭NotShero

The MAC of the Hub 5x does need to be cloned on the UDM, to get a connection with Virgin FTTP using your own router. This is not needed with Virgin UK.

    Here's the troubleshooting guide -

    https://pon.wiki/guides/troubleshoot-connectivity-issues-with-the-was-110/

PON dot WIKI - "Navigate to https://192.168.11.1/cgi-bin/luci/admin/8311/vlans and, if asked, input your root password.
From the VLAN Tables page, if the textarea is blank, the ONT configuration has not satisfied the OLT."

FTTP Pro - "Its also worth noting that some people have found they are not getting a WAN IP on their router if your having issues its worth trying this:

Go to 8311>Configuration menu then click on the ISP fixes tab.

In here untick/disable the ‘Fix VLANs’ option then reboot the WAS."

Yeah it looks like the WAS-110 is okay and is talking to the OLT, looks to be an issue on the UDM.

Have you tried the "Fix VLANs" option on the WAS-110, I shared above?

We are in the same page..owe you big: just reset the UDM now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 565 ✭✭✭NotShero

Just make sure to clone the MAC address of the Hub 5x on the UDM once it's reset before you do any further troubleshooting. I'm pretty certain it's needed, it started working for two people on here after it was entered. It is needed also if you using your own router with the Hub 5x in "modem mode" in Ireland.

    Apologise for stealing the thread...

I have tried everything, even reset the DreamRouter to test the hardware, same result:nope.

The peculiar part is that the Unifi boxes are talking to VM,there is a bit of traffic going on .. however both routers failed to get an IPv4 or IPv6 stable valid configuration.

Once tired and defeated, decided to revert and to add mistery...my VM line now is offline: router has white stable light but ive no data or voice. Router responds to pings but cant access webGui from a LAN port but can access fine from WiFi device...hmmm.

Gui status tells me IPv6 ok but no IPv4 address available,it is 0.0.0.0… could be related to my request to have the system in IPv4 and not been fully properly migrated ?

Or,the NOC lads got sick of the my line alerts and decided to put me MAC on "deny list" filter, for a while ? At least, thats what ill be doing...

Anyway, not worth it...is too much sweat but, now feels like personal offence, isnt !?

It might be because you are no longer under CGNAT and DS-Lite when the WAS-110 is put in, you're given your own dynamic IPv4 address.

Maybe try a reset of the Hub 5x?

There's also the 8311 community Discord, which might be able to help further -

Read the topics…ill do it again tomorrow.

Techie lad told me if i reset to "default settings" the hub, im going back to only IPv6, losing his manually changed of IPv4 !

I have a config backup file from before playing with the sfp, i tought the config change is done "inside" their servers/equipment and not on the router itself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 565 ✭✭✭NotShero

You didn't have "modem mode" before, did you?

If you didn't, you didn't have your own IPv4 address before. You still had and will have an IPv4 address, it's just it's CGNAT so shared with multiple people.

The advice to not reset is for the people who have managed to get technical support to enable IPv4 only mode for "modem mode" to show up, If the Hub is then reset it goes back to CGNAT and DS-Lite afaik as "modem mode" disappears.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 79 ✭✭Boards_Member

    Wait a bit&byte,please…thanks.

Called tech support and aske dvery nice to give me this IPv4 mode thingy.

So,i dont need this IPv4 or "modem mode" for the WAS ? Is there a many setup or mode or config between IPV4 and "modem mode" ?

The WAS110 will work with ANY config of the Hub ?

    Thanks for your patience…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 565 ✭✭✭NotShero

No you don't need to have "IPv4 only mode" on the Hub 5x to replace it with the WAS-110 but there's no real need for a WAS-110 if you have "IPv4 only mode" with "modem mode" because you can just connect to the Hub 5x then.

People have started getting the WAS-110 because Virgin aren't enabling "IPv4 only mode" as easily these days.

Also make sure you have IDS off on your UDM to have a chance at getting 5Gb when you get it working again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 79 ✭✭Boards_Member

Yeah,a bit confused here… The main reason i want to get WAS-110 working is to get full 5Gb speeds,to eliminate one piece of hware off the loop. No need for v4,makes no difference for what im using (i have a friendly Eir for that type of works).

IDS/IPS all off on the UDM. I'll try again tomorrow with and without the WAS.I may have to reset the Hub back to default original.

Spent so far a "small holiday fortune" and still not the 5Gb ,not near at all.

    Thanks !!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 79 ✭✭Boards_Member

OK,going to try one more last final time…thanks for help.

Reset the hub back to default, workign fine.

So,WAN is on DHCP on IPv4. DHCP on IPv6 enabled or disabled ? If yes, whats the prefix,48 or 64 ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 565 ✭✭✭NotShero

Are you using the Hub 5x in "modem mode" or are you using the WAS-110?

You don't have to worry about any settings on the Hub 5x if you are using the WAS-110 as you are completely removing it.

It should be a /64 prefix afaik.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 79 ✭✭Boards_Member

removing the Hub5 fibre cable and plug in to the WAS, which goes in to the port WAN in UDM.

configured the settings on the WAS-110 as per yesterday config, all good and confirmed as your above post, except the software version and added the -VMIE

configuring the WAN port on UDM:

    -DHCP v4 and v6

    -VLAN10

-cloned MAC as the Hub's bits

What pisses me off is that once plugged in WAN port, even with a static route on the WAN interface for network 192.168.11.0/24, still cannot see the WAS110 interface from any of the LAN devices…

Have you tried without "-VMIE" on the Equipment ID, as the UK guide doesn't have the part included after the dash.

Have you tried the "Fix VLANs" option and have you tried asking in the Discord group also?
