Four changes for India as well. Nair, Jurel, Akash Deep and Prasidh in for Thakur, Pant, Kamboj and Bumrah.

England win the toss again. Live grass and dark gray sky, it was probably the most important toss of the series and Gill called wrong again. Unbelievable run of lost tosses for India.

5 toss losses in the series! Ideal bowling conditions, some rain due in the afternoon. Could be a tough morning for India.

First blood to England, Jaiswal out lbw on review.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,634 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Jaiswal has fell away badly as the series went on.

Atkinson bowling nicely, way better than he did against Zimbabwe.

good start by the English bowlers. Atkinson looking a little more spicy. Nearly everything’s aimed in at the pads and stumps…line and length looks perfect…

Hmmm not so much of a good start by the umpires, the wicket that fell, how that wasn’t given out on the field. As plumb an lbw… going to be hitting middle and leg, two thirds way up, nowhere near the bat.

Rahul gone chopping on. Big wicket that as he has been incredible in the series.

Gus Atkinson has been very impressive considering his lack of cricket.

A sudden torrential downpour has ended the session. The pitch got a good chunk of that too and it will take a while to mop this all up.

India 72/2 and I think they will be pretty happy with that.

Set to resume at 3pm albeit rain is still ominous on the radar so any resumption may well be brief.

given this is the final test, India 1-2 down, weather forecast for the remainder of the test mixed… would India not want to be a little bit more adventurous with their batting ? A draw is of zero use to them… 83 runs in just over 27 overs. A run rate just slightly over 3..

Shît, Gill runs himself out ! Wtf, never nearly a run there, what the ? 🤪😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,479 ✭✭✭MFPM

The two rocks of the Indian batting are out already. Dreadful by Gill, run out, bizarre decision, no need to run that whatsoever. 83/3.

rain ‘looks’ to have stopped but covers still on parts of the outfield…..probably be 30 minutes minimum before we see play if no more rain with the cleanup etc..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,239 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

ok, we back. England with a reasonably attacking field.

As I type Tongue gets Sudharsan, very good delivery in fairness. Great start for England….. Indians really need to get to stumps no more down.

England have really got lucky with the conditions. Bowling has been a bit all over the place but good enough to deal with India. Atkinson has been good on his return. Tongue has bowled some dross and then pulled really good balls out of his bag. India's batsmen look all at sea...if India don't buckle down they could be rolled over tonight..

India 6 down, Sundar I know, Nair going OK, these two need to get through to the close. Not much to come.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,479 ✭✭✭MFPM

That looks nasty for Woakes, shoulder injury.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,239 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Yeah, Woakes looks like he’s in real trouble here. That might be the end of his test. England can ill afford to lose a seamer at this stage of the test especially after only going in with 4 frontline bowlers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,479 ✭✭✭MFPM

England's day on the whole. These two Indian batters have done well. Interesting to see what happens tomorrow, England could skittle them for 230 but if India could get to 250 or more likely 300, they might make a game of it. Woakes will be a loss with ball and bat if as it looks he's badly injured. England just need a draw to win the series so the pressure is on India.

why are young sports people so naive these days…? Gus Atkinson says after being in the dressing room with Woakes that he would be surprised if Woakes plays any further part in the test..

maybe don’t arm your opponents with that info. That’s a psychological shot in the arm for them tonight…. Let them stew, let them wonder…..give them ”he’s off to the hospital, we’ll see”. Leave them wondering..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,478 ✭✭✭VillaMad

I think it's even stevens particularly taking the Woakes injury into account. The toss was a huge win for England if the pitch gets better to bat on. The ball did something throughout so it's hard to know what a good score is, but surely top class bowlers would have tumbled India for 150.

Atkinson bowled really, really well but Tongue and Overton were really poor and sprayed it everywhere. Tongue is such an odd bowler in that his unpredictability means a jaffa is around the corner somewhere along with all sorts of rubbish. Overton doesn't look suited to this pitch at all and looked a bit out of his depth.

Looks hugely doubtful whether Woakes could play again in the test and he also won't be able to bat which leaves England in huge trouble.

maybe with a reenergised group of bowlers in the morning England can break this partnership. These can both play but next man in is Deep with a batting average of 7.46, Siraj 5.03 Krishna 2.50… so jeez, if they get one of these out they should skittle them in no time.

Nair goes early. Tongue still bowling poor balls but then can produce a decent one. Now Washington plays an unnecessary shot and gets caught. Brainless.

The only thing is India might like a bowl in these conditions but they'd like more runs.

India folding here, not entirely surprising.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,479 ✭✭✭MFPM

Atkinson gets 5. India all out 224. Their lower order are shocking, really poor display by them the whole series.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,239 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Aggressive start from Englands batsmen. Duckett with some sort of reverse switch scoop off Deep, 6 ! 😅

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,479 ✭✭✭MFPM

England flying already. Scoring almost 6 an over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,239 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

another reverse scoop for 6 from Duckett….. 51/0 after 7. Fabulous entertainment and the Indians look rattled… why wouldn’t they be..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,479 ✭✭✭MFPM

England a quarter way to India's total in just 8 overs. Excellent batting not without its risks, but awful bowling. India's series hopes dying in front of them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,239 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Duckett gone, one adventurous shot too many. Deep up right in his face as he walks off. Duckett did well not to react. One of the other Indians grabs Deep by his shirt collar and pulls him away. Wonder might Deep be retrospectively sanctioned for that ? No doubt he should be..

Camera pans to Trescothick who is gesturing that Duckett should have elbowed him in the head 😂.. brilliant.

A really entertaining mornings cricket. Crawleys 50 in 42 deliveries. Runs flowing, some tasty shots.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,479 ✭✭✭MFPM

India finally get a wicket, Duckett goes. Deep's send off was stupid, England rightly got critiqued for their petulance at the end of the OT test and Deep engages in this nonsense, apart from anything else his team are on the verge of losing the series, ridiculous behaviour.

Can't remember seeing something like that from Deep before. How Duckett didn't lump him, I'll never know.

Almost the perfect session that from England. The counter attack from Crawley and Duckett absolutely flummoxed India even though the ball and pitch are doing plenty. Crawley has played really well actually. How India miss Bumrah here.

You can still pick up a cluster of wickets here though and so India can still very much get themselves back into it.
