    I'm beginning to consider a trip to Vietnam next year... backpacking and getting off the beaten track as much as possible.

    My question is, is it worth wearing an Irish flag patch on my backpack? Reason: I don't want to be identified as British or American considering everything they're doing to the world at the moment.

    I never would have considered it before and have travelled to over 50 countries, but I'm feeling the weight of the world right now.

    I do remember the days of the Iraq war when Americans used to travel wearing Canadian patches, and I considered that to be extremely tacky.

    Alternative would be to tie a kufiya to my bag.

    Unless you're walking around 24/7 with your backpack it's mainly a pointless exercise.

    Was there last year and no one cared if where I was from let alone if I was Irish, English, American or Australian.

    Yeh, just me overthinking… I have had a couple of experiences in the past where locals assumed we were English, but that was easily resolved once we opened our mouths...

    In my experience of Vietnam the locals off the beaten track couldn’t care less where you are from and certainly wouldn’t recognise an Irish flag.
    For a people who have such a history of being oppressed they have a very friendly disposition towards visitors in general and seem mainly concerned that you like their country.
    You will have a great trip. Enjoy.
