I have a 2016 Peugeot Partner van for sale, i've had a few enquiries re price/ mileage, whenever i quote the mileage (317,800) the interest ends there, just wondering if this is excessive for a van of this age and will i have to drop the price considerably in order to sell?

Why don’t you have the mileage listed on the advert? 316k km is extremely high for a small 9 year old van.

I do have it listed on the ad, i also have a for sale sign and my phone number on the van windscreen.

Why not put a link to the ad on here, let the experts 😁 take a look, perhaps you are looking for too much, lads here will tell you.

Thanks, i've a strong feeling i am asking too much but the price i have on the ad is more a starting price to see if there was any interest, i'll try and put up a link to the ad.

can't get the link to paste, the van is listed on adverts.ie> peugeot partner>Sligo.

There is one here for practically half your asking price with way less mileage. I also sold one recently with half your mileage for €4k

Adverts is full of time wasters anyway, you need to advertise on Donedeal for a reasonable price.

They are possibly not seriously interested anyway.

You have the Kms on the ad so they know it before calling.

You could include service history in the ad.

My recent experience with DD (albeit not selling cars) is it's no better. Full of scammers/bots that are banned within minutes of messaging you.

Its also on done deal, as i said i know it's overpriced and the mileage is high but theres a years DOE and a couple of months tax still on it, there's hardly a mark on it and there's plenty of extras in it, i would hate to give it away for a couple of grand.

Half a million Kms is a lot on the clock

if that figure is kms, you could do what a lot of other do and multiply the figure by 0.62 and state it as miles. Now your figure starts with a 1 instead of a 3. I hate seeing this in an ad and it puts me off but i'm not the market. A lot of people are numerically challenged and some will feel much better buying a car with 1xxxxx miles than 3xxxxx kms.

But thats all its worth. Its not going to sell for anything close to your asking price

my berlingo is 192 reg and has 300k km on it.

Trading it in now and one garage reluctantly offered 6k including vat. Other dealer offered 3k including vat. (And remember thats just taken off the trade in price of what they’re selling me!)

Obviously they’re garages not private but just wanted to give you a guide

Where did u come up with that asking price ? What is it with private sellers

Price keenly and say priced to sell

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,056 ✭✭✭Buddy Bubs

I sell our end of life work vans all the time (end of life for us) to 2 different guys that bid against each other and take them from us, no idea what theu do with them after that.

Usually around 250k kms Renault Master/Traffic types of vans, Nissan equivalents, Ford equivalents and at that stage they are very tired with the weight we carry in them.

Have sold 4 of them in the last month one guy gave us 11000 for 2 and another guy 13000 for 2, usually between 5 and 8 years old when we sell them.

Can't see a Berlingo with even higher mileage getting as much especially in Sligo with much less buyers, we are in Dublin.

Id say 3000/3500 is the ceiling for you

Ok, in the first post you said the mileage is 317, that's half a million Kms.

If you said the mileage is 317 in the ad, can't be surprised people walk, if you meant 317 kms , that's only 198k mileage.

    Not too excessive.

sorry for the confusion, I have 317,000 km on the ad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,334 ✭✭✭extra-ordinary_

For a commercial, it's just over 20k miles a year, which doesn't seem excessive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,000 ✭✭✭✭User1998

For a small van its very excessive. Have a look at similar small vans. Its definitely on the higher end. That kind of mileage would be more common on big vans like Sprinters etc

Just seen the ad. Price is high for a basic spec model with that mileage. It is coming up to

    10 years old too.

That's far too high. Which is why you've had no interest. As others have shown there are plenty of vans out there of a higher spec, lower mileage and newer year going for less.

Even as a starter price, it'll put people off because generally people aren't that reasonable when it comes to bartering down. Plus you're selling privately, got to knock off money for that as well as people are taking a massive gamble when it comes to buying a high mileage car privately.

She's fairly clean for the age and mileage but I'd say you'd looking around the 3k mark.

Less IMO. If OP actually wants the van to sell I think it should be advertised at €2,750 to allow some downward negotiation. Asking price of €5,750 is nuts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,056 ✭✭✭Buddy Bubs

Just to jump on this do people think im doing ok getting between 5500 and 6500 when I sell on bigger vans that have 250k kms or so on them? And have all the signs of a hard life, tradesman vans, having carried heavy materials

Usually just want it done quickly rather than holding off for every penny I can get

I tend to sell them to the same 2 guys all the time for convenience

    Master/Traffic types

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,000 ✭✭✭✭User1998

You would need to filter Donedeal to what it is your selling and compare to what private sellers are asking, and then take a couple of grand off for the convenience factor and fact that asking prices are not actual selling prices

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,364 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

Just as an aside, the initial reading of the ad is slightly confusing with the mileage figure:

    2016 Partner van 1.6Litre 317, 963km

I initially read this as a 2016 Partner van 1.6 Litre 317 WITH 963km. Having said that, it is obvious on second reading and you do have the mileage photographed too.

If you look at your ad on Done Deal I think you are the 2nd highest priced Partner van being sold privately with that level of mileage, so you may need to consider the price being asked for.

On seeing the ad, Swap the display back to miles seeing as UK import with speedo in miles. If the seats are clean take the seat covers off, nothing shouts tatty seat like a seat cover. All the selling points missed - no mention in ad that I saw about service history, timing belt, tyre condition etc only things that come as standard. And of course the price, even @ €4000 it would probably be too high to attract a bidder.
