It didn't like you pointing out & "lol-ing" at the Chinese hypocrisy.

As you say them invoking sovereignty is a joke. They still cannot even call what is going on in Ukraine a war, let alone an invasion.

2 years ago (!), one of their officials in Europe also said that the sovereignty/independence of post-Soviet states is arguable or contingent (…I bet the ambassador did not mean Russia itself!). The Baltic states were not too happy, I remember.

Prickster. I'm going to try to paint a little picture of how these tarrifs work, in the short term at least. Toyota SUV's imported into the US now face a 15% import tariff. The US consumer will not pay any additional cost because if Toyota wants to protect it's market share it has to sell it's product in line with existing US produced offerings. Hence, the 15% tariff is absorbed by Toyota HQ and eats into their profit margin.

We need a total revulsion reaction option. If that's Strelnikov the swimmer lets hope he sinks like a stone the next time he gets into the water.

Its gotten to the point now that Trump with his botched attempts to cover it up, hes actually bringing it closer to public attention, and not only the Russians either. The world is watching, and listening, not to mention hacking…

AvtoVAZ will cut salaries by at least 20% and transfer employees to a four-day week. This decision was made by the company's management against the backdrop of falling sales. Many employees plan to quit and look for a new job. GAZ and KAMAZ are switching to a four-day week following AvtoVAZ.

Diversion: Gingrich was the first, perhaps only speaker to be censured by the House. The lad he's talking with, Larry Kudlow, is an 'economic adviser' who was in the Trump admin, and is notoriously wrong all the time about economics.

Gingrich saying something anti-Russian is nice, but that's about it. He's a disgraced politician who was Reagan's lapdog when he was in the House.

Kiev hit with a large barrage overnight with reports of a large number of industrial facilities were targeted. Looks like air defence does not exist anymore in the city.

Trump also getting annoyed going by his tweets, Must be very frustrating for him not being able to do much.

Tell us more about violations of sovereignty please

Does starting a war and sending hundreds of drones and missiles against civilian targets every night killing innocent people violates Ukrainian sovereignty?

I have grown more and more convinced that you just post from a list of 💩 without engaging the brain (or people who point out your 180 degree turns and hypocrisy) or remembering your own earlier posts which you regularly contradict or completely undermine all the time

The problem with Russian propaganda is that consistency is as elusive as a victory in the Three Day War of Putin’s

It's just the way it has been going on for some time now and really explains the urgent calls for a ceasefire.

Flags also raised across the outskirts of Chasiv Yar now with the town now under total control meaning Kostiantynivka under imminent threat in coming weeks from 3 sides, given the layout of the area. Kramatorsk and Sloviansk also are in big a valley surrounded by heights.

Maybe a good idea to consider pulling back from the region soon, a difficult decision to make.

"A large number of industrial facilities were targeted"

They hit a residential building and killed kids last night (again).

You should be ashamed of yourself to keep pushing the pro kremlin nonsense.

I've heard from what I would consider a reliable source, that Ukraine is on the verge of defeat.

They've run out of soldiers, there isn't enough equipment coming through from the west, and Russian drone production at Yelabuga is increasing every month, I think they're at 200 Geran 2 drones per day.

The EU/NATO simply did not take the corerct action.
There should have been EU boots on the ground from the get go.

At the risk of feeding the trolls, this is nonsense.
For example, “running out of soldiers”.
Ukraine hasn’t even been forced to conscript its younger population of citizens yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,959 ✭✭✭Beta Ray Bill

Officially that's correct, but there are caveats

Allegedly (this is from a Ukrainian source) that if you are of military age and don't have a job in Ukraine or are being a public nuisance, you're picked up by the military.
I think this ties in with the Bill around mobilization.

Hundreds of thousands of young men have left Ukraine despite the mobilization bill

18 year olds can volunteer legally in ukraine.

I think I've seen a few of your posts making these kind of contrarian statements

You are perfectly entitled to your views, but out of curiosity do you support Ukraine? Or is there a "but" in there.

“The accumulative effect of a Ukrainian manpower crisis, the turbulence of Kyiv’s relationship with the Trump White House, and uncertain supplies of weaponry”

Add in the EUs utter cowardice of Putin still.

Ukraine fighting with one hand behind its back would only work for so long.

Still no supply of Taurus missiles 3 years on.

If people are going to make strong, sweeping claims, the least they could do is include a couple of sources and links. That goes for both sides of the argument. It just helps to keep the discussion grounded in reality as opposed to playground "yeah well my team's better than your back and forth nonsense".

Ukraine is on the verge of defeat is about as plausible as Putin is on the verge of death from cancer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,612 ✭✭✭twinytwo

It is always amusing to seeing people calling for boots on the ground from the safety of their computer screen.

Nothing stopping you going to Ukraine and standing in the trenches with the rest of the volunteers if you feel that strongly about it.

What's stopping you? Show the EU how to take the correct action.

    I'm not a soldier, I'm over 40, I cannot speak the language.

A sigular effort of one or even many individuals is not enough, it requires the organised backing of a government to commit soldiers and resources to defending Ukraine.

Like what do you think would be more effective: 100,000 volunteers from all over Europe or 30,000 soldiers and their equipment from say Poland or Germany?

Toyota build the US RAV4 and Camry in the US so that's a bad example to use.

The US consumer will end up paying most of the tariffs.

If it's something that's not made in America yet is wanted by American's they'll have little choice because no company is going moving specialist production to America because of a 15% tariff. And if there's no ready to go US alternative they don't need to worry about market share either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,515 ✭✭✭thatsdaft

good points, If you are a manufacturer in EU or Japan or UK or S Korea you main concern is that your competitors dont have smaller tariffs than you when selling to US consumers (US companies pay tarrifs on delivery in port and pass it onto consumers)

Since the base for whole world is 15% this now becomes a form of VAT tax on us consumers who are too stupid to twig what just happened and will be moaning over coming months about increased prices

And this is why markets are on a tear again, the uncertainty been (hopefully) removed and these companies wont be the ones paying these Trump taxes at end of day

Europe is still reeling from the effect of WW1, quickly followed by WW2 and immediately the Cold War.

Our populations wanted to believe that history was over and trading with BRIC regimes would eventually align them with our western values. That was a fantasy which is unravelling before our eyes for the last 15 years or so.

Good times lead to soft men with no stomach or appetite for a fight. A French, German, Belgian or whatever politician calling for 20k or so off their nations men to be put in harms way is going to have trouble collecting votes.

The people of the Baltics and Scandinavia are further down the road to thinking this might be a necessary action.

Nations need hard power, their rivals need to know they are prepared to use it. Putin will keep pushing until he is put on his arse.

The idea of nationhood in the early part of the 20th Century (which no doubt played a role in WW1 & 2) is very different to today; from the collective effect of EU harmonisation, historic levels of population growth and massive demographic change has no doubt led to a reduction in the number of men happy to take up arms to defend their nation.

No doubt the size of the Ukraine (and I've taken train journeys there) and the likelihood of it becoming a forever war has EU leaders very nervous

Was listening to a report in KYIV earlier and he said Ukraine is till riddled with corruption but is trying it’s best to eradicate it.

I think Zelensky came from a good place trying to enforce the new law but the communication was very poor.
