Options for payment in sterling

I have to make a payment to a retailer in northern Ireland.

Was originally planning on using Revolut for this but I see that they charge an additional 1% where the monthly amount is above €1k - and the amount involved is well above that.

I also have an AIB card but I think they charge 1.5% and the exchange rate might not be as good.

The retailer has also an option of paying in euros but the rate there is £0.83/ €1 - which is not great - the going rate on Revolut is €0.86.

Are there any other options to make this type of payment - get a decent exchange rate and keep the fees down?

Upgrade to premium on Revolut and there are no charges.

Convert your Euro to Sterling during banking hours to get the best rate, and then transfer the Sterling to your supplier.

The rate is very good these days for buying Sterling.

You could transfer money to your Revolut sterling wallet, i.e. using the Sterling IBAN, using another service like Wise, XE etc. if the rate was better.

There was a great rate for sterling last Friday, but you get a penny less now.

If its a card transaction, theres no foreign exchange fees, even on the basic package.

Still waiting for the OP to tell us if its a transfer or a card payment.

    Thanks for the info.

Completed the transfer last Thursday using Wise. All went without a hitch. Overall cost was cheaper than anywhere else.

    Happy out.

Incidentally my banks fraud dept contacted me within seconds of me sending the funds through to Wise. Seemingly criminals regularly attempt transfers from people's accounts and route it through wise

Hi guys, apols to piggy back on this thread, what might be the best way of converting to actual sterling cash? Require a £2k cash exchange and wondered if the same method of using revolut sterling wallet and withdrawing in cash from an atm is more effective than visiting An Post?

    Thanks

I think that a standard Revolut account only offers charge free ATM withdrawals of €200 per rolling month, it is certainly limited.
