Great to hear but Shaw hasn't been anyway innocent himself. I totally forgive injuries that's not always a players fault but to go play in a tournament when you have been out injured for a year and then to only play one game and come back injured again for the next season that's another level of stupidity. No matter how much you want to play for your country it should not come at a cost of your fitness to that extent.

To work to get your fitness up, to play that one match, and then eff off to Ibiza for 3 weeks and get injured on your return to training will always annoy me. He is legally entitled to his time off, sure, but having not played for United since February… and then take that time off and let your fitness/conditioning drop again… to get immediately injured just annoys me.

Re Wissa: would you really want to get drawn into another negotiation with Brentford? For a player who they're already seemingly acting in bad faith about an agreed release clause?

Shaw (along with them all) seem to have had a program to work on over the summer which hopefully has seen them available for the exertions of pre season and the season ahead. Mbuemo is playing catch up but he had an extra session yesterday apparently. Another match tonight against Bournemouth. Will be interesting to see how much the team changes from West Ham.

With two years left on his contract I don't see Mateta coming that cheap especially with them being in Europe this season. It won't be easy for them to replace what Mateta brings to the team and his goals.

Similar Villa will have the same thoughts now on what Watkins brings to the team given they had to sell Duran when Arsenal wouldn't pay the £60M. Given the financial mess they're in though can they afford to play hard that hard.

They need to sell players and everyone knows that. Could see it coming down to the final day of the transfer window before any move happens.

I think Wissa is a great player and his style of play would allow Cunha and Mbeumo to thrive. Premier league proven, versatile, great workmate especially defending from the front.

Also helps that himself and Mbeumo have also struck up a deadly partnership during their time at Brentford. Unlike Watkins and Sesko though he lacks physical size. Maybe something the club and Amorim wants at CF. Plus if he's going on strike how far will he be behind everyone else fitness wise. So will Amorim see him as fit enough to throw straight in as our starting CF.

Our club is becoming ‘Brentford Light’….

All we need now is the work ethic to transfer over…………muahhhaha

    Sorry I'm spamming now

Manchester United prioritising Benjamin Sesko if striker signed this summer. 22yo now preferred option for #MUFC + informal contact made with RB Leipzig. Slovenia int’l also remains top target for Newcastle United: #NUFC pursuit continues TheAthleticFC

    LAURIE TWEET

Manchester United are choosing to pursue a deal for Benjamin Sesko.

Decision made over Ollie Watkins + contact made with RB Leipzig.

Christopher Vivell integral to the deal.

Also From the article via aggregator:

Watkins has admirers at the club but Villa told United early in the window that he is not for sale and are adamant he is staying. The United hierarchy are reluctant to pay what they thought it may have taken for Villa to consider doing business

Sign Wissa too for **** and giggles. Show Newcastle that they aren't as big as they think they are. Forget a new keeper or midfielder we'll win games 5-4 😂

It’s not all bad for Newcastle. They did manage to get to Aaron Ramsdale.. before the competition.

Must be some sort of movement for one of the lone rangers for this deal to progress.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 919 ✭✭✭jayo44

Front 3 of cunha, Mbeumo and Benjamin Sexy has got pitential.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,293 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

Those numbers below only tell a part of the story but Sesko has a decent conversion rate anyway.

He’s a risk but it could be such a beautiful one if he signs and produces the goods. Said it before but a brand new front three would be so refreshing to watch. Other issue that need to be solved too in time but it would be a great start.

If we've made a decision then move and get it done. We can't leave it 6 weeks like Mbeumo, need to get more deals done than just a striker so have to pick up the pace.

Personally I'd prefer Sesko to Watkins considering their ages. Rashford was being selected ahead of Watkins last year too which would be a concern.

I understand the comparisons to Hojlund as well but in fairness Sesko has a more established track record than Hojlund had when United signed him. Would be an exciting signing anyway, if not without its own risks.

I wonder why we're so brief-heavy with regards to our striker pursuit the last few days.

Could always be a ploy to force Villa's hand with Watkins...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,924 ✭✭✭NITRO95

Because as it says in Ornsteins article we want to get a deal done before Newcastle sell Isak. We are moving before they do

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,741 ✭✭✭el Fenomeno

Right but this was clearly another brief. What's the benefit of announcing "we're going to try sign Sesko"...?

I'd like to keep rasmus as a backup. Still think he'll have something to offer in the future.

Though I think sesko is actually younger

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,808 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

I wouldn't say so. I think Vivell has convinced them that Sesko is the one they should go for. Nowadays the world of football is brief heavy imo. Especially during silly season.

Hopefully the club have the funds for this without having to waste time waiting for players to leave. They did enter talks with Frankfurt late enquiring about Ekitike. Surely you don't waste your time doing that when you know a deal is likely happening with Liverpool unless you've got the funds to try make something happen.

Heck even ask them do they want Rasmus on loan for the season. Throw a buy option into the clause that if he does well they can get him for a reasonable price. If they continue playing with two CFs he'll get opportunities even if third choice.

Didn't see the new messages before finishing my post but think it should be a no brainer for Hojlund if Leipzig are open to a deal involving him.

As much as people want United to move Hojlund now I think for his own benefit he needs to move away from the club. I think if he decides to stay and fight to prove himself it just adds more pressure onto him. He needs a fresh start as much as United need a new CF.

This is surely a negotiating tactic with Villa, the deal seems way too risky, and the "resale" value angle only makes sense if he is incredible and Real Madrid want him for big money, if he is useless it'll be a loan back to Dortmund or something

I found this interesting in the BBC article, the club are saying we don't need to sell anyone to make more signings, so we can buy before offloading players if needs be.

As I said about Ekitike and the late interest we showed there has to be some funds there for a CF without the need for sales.

Because at this stage I wouldn't be surprised if Antony is the only player sold from that list of four.

I'd say we couldn't give Sancho away for free. He'd still find a way of making a deal break down. Could have had a handy number being a squad player at Chelsea only for his greed wanting to much wages.

At this stage I can see Garnacho being brought back to the squad. Must be humbling for him to see then genuine lack of interest clubs have for him.

Feel sorry for Malacia and how that long term injury has seen his career go. He's only got a year left on his contract unless the club extends it. He's likely to go on loan and walk on a free or hang around as cover. Can't see anyone buying him unless he's left leave for peanuts.

This might be just smart play from the club echoing Amorim's messaging that the players could come back into the fold if we don't get the necessary price, and we won't be giving them away for pennies etc to stop all the lowball offers.

Might just be briefing that we really don't need the money and we're not desperate so if we don't get reasonable offers we won't be selling them as a negotiation strategy
