    Strong lineup

Haven't watched the other preseason games but this looks a proper lineup and it's a nice time, take an early lunch, look forward to watching the boys again and first look at Kerkez, Ekitike, Wirtz and the keeper

Don't know how successful it would be but if we were to get Isak and play with 2 strikers I'd love to see us recreate something like the diamond Rodgers played in 13/14, Wirtz in Coutinho's role. Isak/Ekitike/Salah in the free flowing front 3 positions.

First 11: Mamardashvili, Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez, Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Wirtz, Salah, Ekitike, Gakpo.

Subs: Woodman, Pecsi, Endo, Nunez, Mac Allister, Jones, Elliott, Tsimikas, Robertson, Frimpong, Ngumoha, Morton, Stephenson, Nyoni.

Looks like a first choice starting line-up apart from Alisson but the bench definitely reinforces our need to sign a defender. Great to see Mac Allister is fit to make the bench too.

    Yeah maybe thats it.

Might be stuck thinking 4-3-3 whereas could be closer to 4-1-2-3 or 4-2-1-3

Messily entertaining first half. Lots of almost good things, with borderline comical bad touches mixed in - though it seems the pitch is playing a part there. Mo still looks the best player on the pitch, and looks like he could have a nice link up with Wirtz before long. Everything looks so easy for Wirtz… loads of lovely little casual one-touch stuff. Gakpo's been very industrious too, done a lot of good stuff, with some odd bounces scuppering him. Hard to say much about Ekitike yet… moves beautifully, glides around, but hasn't had much luck so far. A few mad touches, but again, that seems to be a pitch issue as much as anything.

We do look very far away from being a 'team' though, still so insanely open on the break. Only one more pre-season game (well, two, but they're back to back on the same day so likely one game for each player). A lot of work to do to build chemistry over the next two weeks.

I don't post too much but I have to say all of the change and uncertainty has me concerned. I think LFC could be doing the whole transitional year thing a year after it was expected.

    The pitch looks horrific

To play that aggressively with almost a front 4 relies on perfect precision and ball retention 99% of the time. So, I suppose the worst aspect of it will show up in preseason. When players are rusty and have not played together much. The sloppiness will really stand out.

It'll be hard to hit the ground running with all this change at full back and up front alright, but ultimately it's hard to say it's a year late when we won the league last season. I'd happily take an uncomfortable couple of months of players bedding in as payment for being champions. And ultimately it's looking like we'll have a very talented, yet very young squad when things settle down, with two evergreens as continuity.

    Yokohama take the lead

    They've no problem shooting

I don’t think it’s anything to be concerned about. There’s obviously going to be a serious bedding in period when you have new faces in such key positions. It’s what preseason is all about.

True… I'd worry about whether or not that sort of approach is viable in the premier league though. You can't be perfect all game, and if you're playing that openly at PL level you're gonna concede from nigh on every mistake.

It also just feels a bit counter productive to both improve the level of your attackers, and also commit an extra man to attack. Just hoping this is a level of aggressive pushing that we're hyper-focused on now, but will actually only be 10 or 15% of how we play in any given game when called upon.

Wirtz levels it. We're on the way.

Won't be all that easy, but in the right place

It won't work week in week out in the PL. I'd imagine this set up is something Slot maybe planning on using against the low block. And he's using Pre Season to test it out. We just don't have ball retention/recycling forwards. Its not Salah or Gakpos strength. They're direct running treats.

How is works im not sure, but Wirtz will be up front for us most of the games. Could be behind a front 2. With a midfield trio further back.

    Couple nice moments from Rio

Probably should have passed the ball just there, but he worked into a decent shot chance, but saved.

    Talent is there.

Gets a deserved goal in the end

Smashing stuff from Rio Ngumoha, bloody hell. Kid's something special.

It's hard not get ahead of yourself at times. But he reminds me very much of Stirling when he first broke through with us. Lovely to watch in full flow...

Rio reminds me of Michael Owen on his breakthrough, super feet!

Nice to have a semi-friendly up against PL opposition before the season starts, might be a chance to get a better idea of where Rio and the likes are at.

I wouldn't mind Nyoni and Rio getting a few minutes at the end of games next season. Could do wonders for their development.
