I think that's PU foam from a foam gun and not where a wall was pumped. Reason I say that it because of the colour, PU goes that orange/yellow colour with exposure to light, and the IWI insulation is normally blue/grey/purple. Plus, if the wall was pumped the back of the box should not have been open to the cavity and the foam would not have expanded like it did. Were you thinking otherwise?

Is there not an issue with from and PVC insulation on wires, or is that just aero board?

I have just fitted a box and there are no openings at the back behind the board to require such foaming so maybe there is no back to it!

PVC and Expanded Polystyrene (EPS), yes. Insulators and wiring generally too due to the effects on heat dissipation, but not due to reactivity.

There is a very good article on it here which implies that newer cables might not be affected by EPS like the older types.

But the point being that PU isn't known to be reactive to PVC but should not be applied in that manner, if you ask me.
