Switching from Sky to Eir - do I need to cancel?

I'm just out of contract with Sky Fibre.

I requested a switch to Eir using the bonkers website 5 days ago but never received a follow up call to confirm (no UAN or payment details etc were provided).

I noticed the same offer is available directly on the Eir website so I requested the switch online and entered my details. I have been given an activation date of 3 days from now and the instructions state to cancel the contract with your previous provider before then.

So do I need to contact Sky or will that contract end automatically and the new one start with Eir at the time of activation?

@thejuggler Do you know which access network you were using with Sky - open eir, SIRO, NBI? Do you already have more than one installed?

They will only handle the switchover if it’s the same one you’re moving to. if they’ve given you an activation date and not an installation date I presume you are being switched.

You’ll know if the service becomes active on the same ONT as you are using now, you most likely won’t have to do anything and Sky should just cancel but do keep an eye on your Sky account.

If a new ONT is installed or you have to connect to a different ONT in your property then you would have to cancel Sky yourself.

    thanks NotShero,

Will keep an eye. Eir sales guy phoned earlier and thought it should happen automatically. Same ONT (only have the one which was installed by eir a few years ago before I moved to sky). I assume both are using openeir. New Eir modem is enroute.

Yep that all sounds like a switchover through open eir.

Sky should cancel automatically when the Eir service goes live, just keep an eye on your Sky account online.
