Should we add the Femmes onto the Tour thread as that will die off or set up a second thread. The Femmes is always entertaining or are people happy for it to be in here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,057 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Let it just flow into the Tour thread. We are all following it already.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,678 ✭✭✭at1withmyself

    Just leave it here

A great finale today, TG4 are showing it. Was surprised to see Kasia and Pauline attack but fair play to Garcia for getting the stage, I was sure she would be caught at the end.

A lot of big names suffering already or out due to illness, will be interesting if they can turn it around on the big mountains. Can the French have a Tour winner this year?

Some huge time gaps already, hopefully some of the Irish riders can get in breaks?

Great to see Quimper get it's moment in the sun today. Outside of the well known fact it is twinned with Limerick city you don't hear about it much on the world stage.

Elisa Longo Berghini is out of the TDFF. Lara Gillespie had been working for her so far so maybe she’ll have a bit of freedom now.

Flat day today. You’d expect Lorena Wiebes to win, but fingers crossed Lara and Mia Griffen can get into the top 10

Big crash in the TDFF. Gillespie was looking decent but got caught up by it. Overall favourite Demi Vollering got up to finish but she could barely pedal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,812 ✭✭✭✭Dodge

Gillespie 3rd on today’s stage. A good sprint with only the 2 best ever ahead of her

EDIT: Griffin 25th, Mangan 28th. All 3 Irish in the top 30

Just got home in enough time to accidentally get a big spoiler from TG4. Really wish I had seen the sprint without knowing the result.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,208 ✭✭✭Mefistofelino

Really good sprint from Gillespie, particularly as she had to move across to pick up Vos and Wiebes in the last 80m. Clear space between her back wheel and the fourth placed rider. Its just a matter of time for Lara

Thought Wiebes might get a warning for her lean on Dygert.

Herself and the team were very happy afterwards. Seems to be lots of enthusiasm around her at UAE.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,812 ✭✭✭✭Dodge

She seems a great character. Some of it has to be down to the team losing their leader so at least getting something out of the race (before the hills come anyway)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,532 ✭✭✭Paddigol

She is fantastic. Hard not to really take to her. A very infectious personality, races with a smile, backs herself to attack and leaves nothing behind. She really could go to the very top with a bit of luck.

Some upcoming races for our pros.

Jamie Meehan has his first outing as a stagiare with Cofidis at the Tour de l’Ain

Eddie Dunbar is set to return at the Arctic Race of Norway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,812 ✭✭✭✭Dodge

Sam Bennett is on the provisional list for the Tour of Poland. He hasn’t raced since the Giro

Viva la France! Will they get a Tour winner in Ferrand-Prevot this year, looking good from today!

Do the TNT commentators get commission every time they say 'Tour De Frances Femmes avec Swift', christ can they not this say at this years tour', why the need to call out the full title each time! mini rant over!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,812 ✭✭✭✭Dodge

Part of the TV deal. Same with a million sports events. They have to mention the sponsor

Meanwhile Archie Ryan doing Vuelta a Burgos. Darren Rafferty doing Tour of Poland

Possibly indicates Ryan is doing the Vuelta

Did anyone see the crash Sam Bennet was involved in? Was he ok?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,745 ✭✭✭✭Squidgy Black

Went down pretty heavily, he was on the outside coming off one of the pinch points to move up the front but he overlapped wheels with another rider as it squeezed in a bit. He rolled in to the finish anyways

Finn Crockett won GC at the Kreiz Breizh (3 day race in Brittany by the looks - try saying that after a few pints) yesterday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,812 ✭✭✭✭Dodge

Remco officially off to Red Bull Hansgrohe next year.

Meanwhile Archie Ryan 9th in an uphill finish in Burgos

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,162 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

Remco with Rog, Lipowitz, even Hindley, Pellizari, Van Gils, Vlasov how they going to square those circles? As someone said on twatter, Red Bull Bora are spending a lot of money to come 3rd behind UAE and Visma

Can't see Rog at the big races next year. Lipowitz is certainly within his rights to tell him to fuk off and I don't think Rog is gonna care too much about helping Remco either.

Interesting times for the Wolfpack too. PL is gone and they don't have the sprint or classics team they used to. Seem at a bit of a crossroads.

I think for Quickstep their issue is 16 of the last 21 monuments have been won by two riders (plus they got two more with Remco), so difficult for any team to go back to the way they were in their glory days
