Bit of confusion on this. Everyone already knows that you don’t receive card numbers, that’s the whole purpose of using reputable company like Stripe. ‘That’s not the question

The real question is do you/boards.ie get the name and/or email address and/or home address associated with the card. I would guess you do given it is normal for a business to know the identity of their customers. But I dont know for sure. and understandably with this type of business, some potential subscribers would prefer total anonymity.

@The Rooster As Boards is not looking to deliver goods to you there would be no need to request delivery address. Follow the posts back to see what info I provided on it. The email address boards already have and is the way to apply the sub payment to your account. Your not asked for any information on the Stripe payment like name and addresses so how would boards get it or be provided it.

Thanks @Boards.ie: Odhran for hopefully putting this non issue to rest!

You are very good at giving answers, which can be very helpful

But you also try and answer questions you dont know the answer to for some reason, and can provide factually incorrect/misleading information, which is not helpful.

“no need to request address information’ is not the same as not getting address information.

The payment screen demands full name of the cardholder as per the card. So the statement you made in that regard is false (unintentional i presume)

I don’t claim to know the answer to the question. but i do know that only Odhran and possibly Mike can provide it. And any answers provided by anyone else should be ignored as guesswork and potentially misleading, however well meaning in intention.

It was a form on the page to provide them details to boards that your not asked. To make the payment you may be asked by Stripe/Payment method to provide them details to make sure your legitimate person to do so. Which is due to privacy and strict payment guidelines is not passed on to the merchant in any shape or form. Strict rules around that! (except possibly for delivery).

For reasons I previously outlined, I think people confuse the right to post anonymously with a right to be totally anonymous.

Boards.ie offers you a right to post anonymously, but to be able to post you must provide details that could identify you (email address, IP information, data contained in anything you post). This is essential to effectivelt operate the site and comply with law (and yes, I know if you are savvy enough you can if course use burner details and VPNs, etc).

What's irrefutable is that Boards.ie do not require you to pay, there is no new 'demand' for personal information, even if you pay any data provided with your payment is only to confirm your subscription and associate it with your account.

All that said, @Boards.ie: Odhran you should update your privacy policy, that's the place to confirm what data is collected by who, e.g stripe, and what is shared with you, and for what purpose, etc. appreciate there is some mention of card payment in there, but perhaps more details is warranted.

A good few weeks now since Boards informed us of the situation and there’s still hundreds of very regular posters using the site for free and not only that but arguing and bellyaching about a very small sub in order to support the site.
Some of them have been on boards for many years, with thousands of posts, across several forums.
A couple of pizzas and a few beers. That’s all it is.
Well worth the punt even if it doesn’t succeed in saving Boards in the long run.

Any reason why I can't just subscribe with Google Pay? Think a lot more would sign up if it was easier.

I went to sign up, Google pay not accepted. Ok use credit card, fill out all the details, don't know my credit card number so will have to find that. Now I may think to go back to it later but I may not.

Doesn't everyone have Revolut at this stage?

Use one of the disposable credit cards, it couldn't be much easier.

Revolut option is forcing me to input all my information, I have revolut but don't know my revolut number expiring date etc, I'll probably end up coming back to it but it will put people off.

A Google Pay option would be so much easier, just click Google pay, fingerprint, done.

guess what! I don't have Google pay!

Carrier billing is a fair request, everything else ye are bringing up is a load of crap but complaining about having to look at your bank card is never, ever going to be bettered.

Apologies if it's been asked before but which subscription option is more supportive?

The monthly gives more cash per year and is more likely (I think) to be maintained long term, by the subscriber.

And it gives a regular income to the site.

But the Annual gets all the extras!

This isn't a whinge, by the way. Just an observation.

I'm all set to subscribe so the main question is, which option do you (the boards team) prefer someone to go for? Its all the same to me which one.

    Thanks.

I stand to be corrected, but I was under the impression all the subscriptions had the same advantages (for now, at least), despite what the descriptions read.

    Open Revolut,

click top right hand side(card icon)

    Click ' Disposable '

    Click 'Show Details'

    Enter those details to pay.

It is as easy as that.

None of YOUR credit card details are necessary.

I've subscribed to the annual. I've got many times it's value over the years. I stumbled into boards a few years ago. I didn't know my arse from my elbow (still don't) Mark God love him guided me through many a mess of my own making with the patience of a saint.

Typing is painful for me, so I just read, I don't consider myself a lurker,,there are many reasons that a person may not post.

There are many wonderful posters here, and they won't know it,but have often given food for thought on my own views. There are also some very witty and funny posters here. I have got such a lot of LOL moments, and they have picked me up off the floor many times.

It's part of my daily life, there is no other place quite like it.Best of luck to boards.ie, if I'm still around next year, I hope you are too so I can continue to enjoy it.(even the jump pages)😀

I've subscribed, but it's not showing up as such on my profile. Is there some way to check to make sure that it's been processed properly?

Be aware that the system considers a discrepancy even an uppercase or lowercase. As someone else suggested, contact Mike directly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,672 ✭✭✭corkie

Yes when email providers recognise the below addy's as same email and gets delivered to same inbox. Difference in letters may not work on boards system.

Does the subscription bypass the post requirement before you can post links?

If it does, it'd be an unusual poster who would pay up so early?

The light-touch experiment on CA is an albatross hanging around the neck of the rest of the site. The 50 lads that plague CA aren't paying and will drag the rest of the site down.

Good luck with that and getting more advertisers and subs.

In the last 15 minutes there are 30 posts on the front page from over 20 different forums. 3 of those posts are from CA.
