The Zelda games have always been improved by giving Zelda a bigger role so I hope they do.

As for collecting new weapons I really hope they don't structure it like a game otherwise we will end up with something like the first silent hill movie which was baffling.

Film about a green elf swinging a wooden sword around, gonna be absolute bollox unless they go mental and follow the super Mario bros movie from the 90's. Embrace the crazy.

Redundancies underway at Supermassive Games. Not a huge number compared to other layoffs over the past few months, with approx 36 redundancies being offered, but still awful.

Splitgate 2 is going to "unlaunch" and pull the game back to being an on-going beta, pending a full relaunch next year. Admitted that they launched too early, game not ready and have been taking feedback on the games issues. Will also unfortunately include some staff being cut.

Anyone else following the payment system censorship stuff that's going on. Seems to be payment systems like Visa and Mastercard are giving into right wing "somebody think of the children!" pressure groups. First Steam and now Itch.io have pulled adult only games from their stores.

Sure there's some smut being pulled from the stores but there's also some good genuine games that have now lost all their revenue streams.

They've been at this for years. The ultra right American groups realised that campaigning against this stuff directly was a losing game, running into first amendment issues all over the place, so they shifted their aim to the payment processors.

I'm pretty regular when it comes to my preferences, but I really don't see why these guys need to get involved. If no one is getting hurt, and it's all consensual, and it's not depicting something totally extreme, what's the problem? This kind of moral censorship pisses me off.

The censorship also goes beyond the borders of the US as well.

Pretty sure these ultra right wing anti smut groups are all ok about what's going on in Palestine as well but God forbid someone gets excited by furries.

Maybe they just had enough of the sonic art.

Yeah, the Japanese government have just opened an Anti Monopoly(their anti trust laws) investigation into Mastercard and Visa because of this. Legal Japanese adult content has probably been hit the hardest by the payment processors.

It's a very serious and dangerous precedent to allow our wallets to decide what we can and can't buy.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 53,747 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Oh 100%. It's pure censorship by a corporation and violates all freedom of speech laws. Apparently it's been driven by connections to these conservative groups within blackrock and vanguard.

Man, we were promised the cyberpunk future would be more fun and less right wing Presbyterian boring.

It's like Ready Player One, but there are no games to play except military training simulators produced by MS.

The more the internet relies on massive corporations for basic infastructure, the more dangerous it is. And, to be clear, virtually everything online is reliant on the whims of a handful of companies. Even if we see the likes of Steam as a relatively benign 'corporation' compared to some of the more overtly, comically evil ones, ultimately having so much of PC gaming funnelled through one company's platform does and can have consequences for the types of games available and their visbility.

Not to take away from the very real impact of activist groups intent on imposing their conservative and religious will on the rest of society, of course.

Crappy move from companies who have no right to dictate how I spend my money. But how do we fight this? Smut will always win, even if it can't legally be paid for any more, but how do we send a message to Visa/MC to tell them to feck off?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,116 ✭✭✭SuperBowserWorld

I hate Visa/MasterCard. They make it too easy to buy ****. 😁

I've been watching this unfolding over the last few days, first with the steam removals and now with itch and it's clear these Christofascist muppets trying to claim they're feminists are going to regret the attention they've brought onto themselves. They've been claiming they got these games taken down because they're rape games and such and to be fair some of these games being listed could be considered what I could called controversial to say the least or would certainly get a funny look from people. Most are usually just low quality crap that are not even worth buying but the simple fact is despite that they still ARE legal and this is the real point. They're not illegal but they're still being taken down.

What alot of people are getting pissed off at though is that they're seeing what they're REALLY after aka trying to censor or ban anything they don't agree with which ultimately includes games with LGBT or even GTA. People looked up this Collective Shíte group to find out that they were trying to get the likes of Detroit Become Human banned over a scene with domestic violence claiming it endorses violence against women failing to even comprehend the context. These people are all hypocrites and they don't deserve to be listened to simply because they're all outrage baiters with no ability to build a rational argument. Seriously no one should give an inch to these idiots because they take a damn mile if they do.

Moreso what's gotten attention now is how they lobbied the likes of Mastercard and Visa with their semi-monopoly on payment processing are threatening to cut off the likes of steam if they don't comply with their demands and THIS is a real red flag. Today as well it came out they did the same thing over on itch.io and this is going to piss off alot of people. It will be the dodgy gooner games today but tomorrow it will be the likes of Nier or GTA or Stellar Blade tomorrow and this needs to be clamped down now before it gets out of hand. Moreso Japan is now initiating sanctions on Visa because of this behaviour which the likes of Visa and Mastercard have been doing over there over certain adult content for the last few years but now it's getting to the point its an issue that needs to be dealt with.

What would be the real icing on the cake is if gamers could get the EU's attention on this just like with the stop killing games initiative because of the threat of the proverbial regulatory dildo of consequences being deployed against payment processors pulling these shenanigans. The likes of Visa and Mastercard job is to facilitate the processing of payments not censoring legal content they don't agree with and they need to keep their nose out of this area. Last thing we need is idiotic and smooth brain idiots like Collective Shout dictating what people can buy simply because they lobbied a payment processor.

Sure does sound like that existing financial system is working just fine and we don't need a decentralised currency that can't be censored, or corrupted, or inflated, by any governments or corporations or special interests.

Seems the head of Collective Shout that started this and her husband are stakeholder CEOs in age restriction tech being trialed by the Australian government.

Always remember, right wingers are only ever trying to make themselves richer at your expense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,772 ✭✭✭Cordell

So they removed the age sensitive content via proxy bullying financial pressure and now they can say look our tech is working!

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 53,747 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Seems they basically organized a massive complaint drive with their followers and supporters.

Seems that gamers have organized now and have started a massive complaints program against visa, MasterCard and stripe. Basically ringing them up, telling them they want to make a phone complaint when directed to email. Hopefully wasting even more of their time and resources.

Seeing how UK just went full retard on controlling internet content I'd say things will only get worse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,144 ✭✭✭sniper_samurai

Seems you can use the photo mode in Death Stranding 2 to bypass the UK age verification.

This crap enshitifies the internet for everyone as some sites have either nuked all restricted content to comply or are making everyone age verify regardless of location.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,772 ✭✭✭Cordell

Face scan, is that their idea of age verification? Even a 10yo can bypass that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,144 ✭✭✭sniper_samurai

Has to be a "live" face similar to verification on Revolut where they get you to do specified actions in a short video.
