Anyone choosing Para for Cuva over Fontaines? Think its possible to see both with distances between stages?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9 DK2905

Long time lurker, first post. ATN 2023 was my first festival in over a decade, can't wait for 3rd go at it. Massive thanks to all on here for the brilliant tips the last 3 years. (Glass Beams - that was just wow !)

Family parking pass...before anyone gets too excited...I have had one emailed to me all 3 years with a 'make sure you have this in your dashboard' message....but the last 2 years NO ONE working at the festival has been able to tell us where it is, so we have just been in regular parking. Does Family Parking even exist?

Family parking doesn't appear to be a separate area.

    From the app:

"The Family car parking pass issued to Family ticketholders is to be displayed in the dashboard of vehicles to allow event staff directing incoming patrons to endeavour to park families as close to the main festival entrance as possible at the time of entrance. Priority is given on a first come first served basis."

That might be it, but staff don't even know that in my experience. I asked loads of them what having the sign in the window actually does & the response is just a shrug of the shoulders.

So does this mythical car park even exist? My back was nearly broken getting the 5 man tent from the main entrance to and from the family camping, which I think is the furthest campsite from the main entrance? Was misery on the wet Monday morning last year.

Samsong Thai Rum and a bottle of coke. Simple, tasty and very effective!

Campervan has fallen through (or apart). Considering arriving at campervan entrance in our car with the BIG family tent in the back (the one too big to carry) and saying “please take pity - campervan dead - we’ll just drop the tent and kit to bottom edge of campervan site (i.e. edge of the tents bit) and we’ll park the car up where the caravan cars park”.

    Yes this is desperation talking.

Its going to be Para for Cuva for me. Have a feeling the rest of the friend group will stick with Fontaines though

I might skip Fontaines, depending on condition/mood....seen them a few times and I like them, but wouldn't be devastated to miss them. Parra for Cuva certainly very different!

Just a heads up to anyone going to this the first time around it is without a doubt the hottest gig ever regards gards and the stuffs.

    Be very careful.

Dogs on the way in, I dont think these are actual sniffers for a few reasons but 1) they will look at people chatting to each other pointing out the dogs and you will get pulled aside and searched for that 2) if they suspect you have something or they think you look like someone who might have something on you they will say the dog has indicated you have something whether the dog did or not.

There are loads of plain clothes on all of the entrances, workers entrances and all AND loads walking around the campsites and arenas. Have your wits about you, they will be on a mission.

If you ARE going to get caught with something make sure you have no ID or bank cards on you.

    Have fun!

I have seen cars with roof tents in campervans at a good few festivals, if you have a roof rack you could try make it look like that's what you have...

I will be in campervans, I can pick you up a slab of beer and drop it to your campsite on Friday morning if that helps

Kojaque was added to some sort of Guinness 0.0 bar at 12pm on the Saturday - is this part of lovely days?

jaysus be barely awake and right into it sat with one of my favourite acts there.

Guinness 0.0 bar is up beside the Big Wheel near the main stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,558 ✭✭✭showpony1

big enough act for what i assume is a small area at midday!

had planned on catching tony cantwell on bandstand but would be at that instead (last time i was there couldn't even really see or hear tommy tiernan on bandstand for that early sat slot).

Its sad it has to be like this. Feckin undercovers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 281 ✭✭DireD

Has Camper entrance ever been similar to this with searches? Or is a bit more relaxed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 82 ✭✭Magulok

Made an silly mistake of rolling up an spicy pinner in 2023 around 10 minutes after I set my tent up on the Thursday. Was walking down Curraghmore house way and two undercovers stop me, got searched. They didn't care about the pinner just thought I was holding or something from the smell.

    Lesson learned. :P

Looking for a campervan ticket (long shot....I know). If anybody happens to be selling one, keep me in mind please.

Was thoroughly searched in main arena by two undercovers in 2022. Stupidly ran into the wooded area for a leak and was pulled by the two of them when I came back out. Don’t give them excuses was my take.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭crl84

I know two separate people who were pulled and searched after just using the portaloos for legitimate toilet business.
If you have anything on you, have it well concealed if possible.

Been at 3 of the 5 ATNs so far and never seen any undercover cops in the arena or the campsites. Guess I was just lucky (or some of you look dodgy as **** 🤣)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,534 ✭✭✭Fanirish

maybe you are the undercover cop. You’ll show up at board meeting to arrest everyone here.

I was searched last year doing my second run from the car. Got the whole "if you have anything hand it over now" spiel. I think, and this is purely anecdotal, that you're more likely to be stopped coming through without camping gear and booze etc, certainly seemed to be the case when I was stopped.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 95 ✭✭KawaKris

I was never stopped & searched in all my years. They must have some sort of criteria and old long bearded hippies is not one of them 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,742 ✭✭✭endainoz

I remember seeing two undercovers trying to blend in last year, they stood out like a sore thumb to me anyway and that's as someone who doesn't partake.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,429 ✭✭✭danois

We were stopped every time we went to the car. Had dogs walking around campsite and an undercover guard stop us. I didn’t mind because genuinely had nothing.

I did get in trouble for petting the dog. But that’s happened at every festival or airport or ferry terminal I’ve been at with dogs. I can’t help myself I like dogs more than people. 😂

Were there dogs at the main entrance all of the Friday last year or just during busy periods? The separate Boutique entrance has usually been pretty quiet - have never experienced any searches.
