I'm using breastmilk bags, can get some decent ones in Boots for cheap enough and they hold up to 200mls ish per pouch

Edit to add link: Something like this but there's other cheaper/dearer ones

yikes, i wouldn't trust the plastic ziplock on those bags, these would be much safer IMO

I got these a few days ago, should be arriving tomorrow. Bought them on the UK site though no silly shipping charges

I absolutely do, had 5 raised on the stuff but I wouldn't fill them with whiskey, roll them in my jocks and shove them into my backpack 😂

I wouldn't be overly worried about the zip lock opening but they wouldn't be the most convenient for opening and releasing constantly and pouring... especially at later stages of the day!

    Hi All,

Thanks for all of you who have been sharing some really valuable information on this thread, I didn't actually realise that waterproof socks were a thing…..!!!

I was just thinking I am clueless here and don't want to arrive totally unprepared….Does anyone have a packing list they could kindly share !?

I'd imagine there people here who are seasoned Festival goers who know how to do this right with decent levels of planning and preparation so they're comfortable throughout and make the most of the weekend.

Was thinking of splitting it into general for the day to day attendance and then also camping for the rest - Then also marking the items as essential or optional if its just a "nice to have" but not a critical item if that makes sense.

    General Festival Comfort:

    1. Light Rain Jacket (Essential)
    2. Hiking Boots (Essential)
    3. Fleece (Essential)
    4. Waterproof socks (Essential)
    5. Picnic Blanket (Optional)
    6. Camping Chair (Very optional)
    7. Etc
    8. Etc
    9. Etc

    Camping Comfort:

    1. Tent. (Essentials)
    2. Pyjamas. (Optional)
    3. etc
    4. etc
    5. etc

Check out the first post in the Electric Picnic thread by @scruff monkey, which is deadly. A lot of the information relates to EP specifically, but the list of things to bring at the end of the post is useful for any festival and we use it as a check list for ATM every year!

In reality they're not going to ask everyone to unwrap tents and take out the lining of every bag etc anyway!

I hope Security are also reading regards the issuance of Family camping Parking Pass…😉

You could well be correct, selling out fast apparently.

I've used these over the years. Handy non-alcoholic pre-mixed potion, get them in SuperValu. Just add vodka and maybe some sprite. I can vouch for the mojito and the espresso martini mix. I usually bring some milk in the cool box as well. Turn the espresso martinis into white-russians. Although recently I've just brought the Kahlua, vodka and milk. The milk can be a nice break on the tummy after all the fizz. Few cans too be grand 😎

@Mango Joe is this your first festival?

My advice - a good trolley, and where possible only the essentials.

Now it doesn't mean just bring the very minimum. One person' essentials are completely different to another, so it's what you need to have an enjoyable weekend!

Fork out that little bit extra for quality.

A flimsy 5 euro poncho will last you the weekend, a good quality 20 euro ponch could last you at festivals for years.

First few festivals can be expensive if buying new thinga,

Have a great weekend BTW, I've gone from hours from selling my ticket to getting my bag prepped today! Should be a cracker

Hi all, Long time lurker of the thread but first time poster. I have a quick query you guys might be able to help with. I have a disability and as such would struggle to bring down lots of stuff. Was thinking of getting the bus down on Thursday with some of my mates but was wondering what could I get in the field on Thursday evening rather than bringing loads of stuff with me. A mate is bringing my tent but I was thinking could I get a camping chair/sleeping bag in the shop as well as other camping equipment? What about food for the campsites is that easily available inside? Also, is the shop open on Thursday and am I paying much of a premium for the stuff. Was thinking of bringing clothes and a bag of cans essentially but what else should I bring instead of get down there? Aside from that I'm very excited for it and hope everybody is well.

I can list off some others that are handy to have as many others may echo here:

Camping Chair is quite important, you'll notice fairly quick if you're the only one without it, and going off previous years, there's genuinely not a whole load of places to just "sit" around the site, likewise with shaded/covered areas. Some benches near food areas/bars but not a massive amount and often busy.

Bring bin bags, 5 or 10 pack roll, can be used for a multitude of things and always come in handy.

Collapsible water bottle/empty 2 liter or something to fill up your water into, depending on your proximity to a tap it can become a pain going back and forth, and do it every night before bed too!

Hiking/walking trousers, decent shorts, rain repellent if possible, can be quite warm but damp depending on forecast.

flip flops/sliders (campsite only, break from laced shoes/boots is important in the mornings/evenings)

Baby wipes/wet wipes, usual tablets like paracetamol, ibuprofen, Imodium etc

    hand sanitizer

    vaseline/lipbalm

multiple packets of individual tissues and not rolls of bog roll

    bug spray

    Wasp Repellent (see above)

    Gaffer tape/duct tape

    bungee cord

Decent camping/tent torch, one that you can hang in the middle of the tent as a "main light"

Fairy lights for late evening(luxury but light and easily carried)

mini speaker (see MINI not boombox)

    Hand torch/head torch nighttime navigating

    spare batteries (see above)

Power bank! recharge phone/speakers at a price down there or do it yourself

invest in a decent one will last you plenty of festivals

    ear plugs!!

    eye mask (morning)

    sunglasses

    bum bag/shoulder bag

bucket hat (sun/rain shade dont get a cheap one)

    peaked cap

bandana (multi purpose, facemask for toilets, head protection sun, neck warmer)

tent food, things that wont perish easily, protein heavy things etc whatever you fancy

    hand fan/battery fan

supermarket foldable "freezer bag" those large square foil lined ones that hold loads (buy ice in morning, line bag with plastic bag, fill, cold drinks)

ice €5 in the Londis, can keep all drinks cool all weekend doing this without big bulky cooler box

food clips/elastic bands (dont leave food/open around =bugs)

Citronella incense (again nighttime keep them away)

pillow (mini airplane one or inflatable)

*these are all of the top of my head, some will say not needed, but pick and choose what benefits you 👍️

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 801 ✭✭✭antfin

I don't think the Londis sells any camping gear so I would ask the mate to bring the sleeping bag and chair too. Food is easily sorted with the vast area of food trucks and there's some food options actually in the campsite too. The pricing in the shop is usually pretty steep for similar items to what you'd get in your local Londis/Spar so I tend to avoid it where possible.

I think the simple solution here is if you don't have a kid in the car you can f off to the general car park.

Probably one of the few times that a list with black bags, a torch, duct tape and "medication" won't raise eyebrows!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39 HikingBeatsSport

Certainly would work better than the A4 Pass on the windscreen has the last few years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32 BeardyD

I do remember seeing camping equipment for sale at the festival. Definitely, you'll be able to buy a chair. But better safe than sorry, bring essentials. Food is available in loads of places. You will be paying a premium in the campsite shop.

eirfest did a great job listing a lot of things also on my list. Personally despise waterproof socks, make my feet feel sweaty but I generally have issues wearing socks of all kinds so could be a me problem.

I very much agree with bringing packets of tissues rather than loo roll, protected from getting wet and way handier to keep in your bumbag at all times. Speaking of bumbags I have a couple of things I attach to it with a carabiner: hand sanitiser, loop ear plugs (for music not sleep), a mini torch and a silk tote bag that folds up to practically nothing, if it’s going to rain I also hang my fold up rain poncho on it. The tote is to bring in a couple of cans and then not have to carry a backpack (we tend to go back to camp a couple of times a day as its never very far and saves lugging around stuff all the time.)

    Other things I bring

A small rug or large puppy pad for muddy boots (keep the tent tidy)

A piece of elastic to use as a washing line if stuff gets wet

Frozen water bottles amongst the cans to keep them cool

    Power bank

Magnesium (good for sleep and helps sore muscles)

Trial mix is a good snack to bring (love the Lidl fruit and nut one)

    Electrolyte tables or dioralyte

Reusable water pouch (forgot to say also goes on the bumbag 🤣)

    Lighters …

Sunscreen (I have a stick one that’s small)

I bring those little disposable hand warmers. Maybe a bit extra but brought them for the first time last year and it helped so much getting to sleep at night as it does get cold! Always too hot in the morning though so I put these in my sleeping bag and doze off

Pop up bin lined with bin bag(way more practical than bin bags lying around)

tarp for under the tent, helps with dampness creeping up but mostly for if it rains

ok maybe I’m a bit extra but this is nearly 2 decades of going to festivals and continuing to go gen pop but also be comfortable. I use a camping cot as well rather than sleeping on the floor and my back is thankful but my other half sleeps on the floor so do what works for you.

Oh last note on tents! Always get a tent for double the amount of people sleeping in it (rookie mistake) and even better get a tent with a porch/second room so you can sit dry if it rains
