xavi simons seems to be going to chelsea, so thats another potential club to be crossed off.

    from romano:

Understand Chelsea are advancing in talks with Xavi Simons on personal terms!

Xavi, keen on the move and open to joining Chelsea… direct talks in progress to agree contract details and terms.

Chelsea want to be fast ahead of club to club talks with Leipzig.

Yeah, Garnacho obviously wasn't a guaranteed starter last season. He'll have seen Mbuemo and Cunha coming in as new attacking players, clearly they will start given the money spent on them.

Garnacho is young, he'll want to play and prove himself.

I'm actually quite optimistic now about the departures of Sancho, Rashford, Garnacho and Antony. I think Amorim's "power play" will work. [Sancho being the most likely to just sit on his salary, but still think he'd like to play]

Joke of a club. How many wingers do they need?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,652 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

That would make it a 33-man squad, the squad for the Premier League would be smaller…how many games are they playing in the US?

And 5 goalkeepers ! Is Onana actually travelling to the US, thought he was injured?

Looking at the squad there is 7 young players who wont get many mins in the PL, maybe the cups. Injured players are probably going to do recovery over there and bond with the team

A lot highly rated young platers in the squad now.

Dorgu, Heaven, Leon, Yoro, Kone, Mainoo, Chido Obi etc.

They won't all make it, but they appear to have the talent.

Hi dave, not once did I state they should sell for peanuts. In the case of Antony , Betis are still heavily linked but despite sales they are looking to arrange another loan. My point is if that's the best they can do then move on and encourage other suitors. Glad I could clear that up for you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,476 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

    that is my view.
They got their cheap loan of him last season. they either pay up to buy him or we just move on to another club. It may be we end up havign to loan him somewhere else, or even that we have to keep him but I would simply make it clear to any club that we are not going to entertain loaning a player to them for multiple seasons. You get 1 try, and then you buy or eff off.

So you think the club aren't looking at other options atm, they are just waiting on Betis in the hope they increase their offer?

I'm confident they are open to and looking for other options. However you can't force a player to move to a club he doesn't want to move to.

If the player says its club A or nothing, you can't make them accept the offer from club b. As shown plenty of times, the power is with the player.... take Rashford and Barcelona as an example.

Onana is injured and won't be playing over there. Licha is traveling there too as part of team bonding and obviously won't feature either

Being honest Rashford was not 1st choice there so I wouldn't call it player power. He was 3rd on the list behind Williams & Diaz

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,476 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

If they are only offering a loan, they aren't making a big dent in the amortization he will 'cost' this season. And his wages aren't a massive issue for us…. so a Loan is just of little value to United, imo. to the point that I would rather we keep Antony for the season than loan him to Betis.

But I suspect if it became clear that we simply aren't going to entertain the rubbish offers they have put in, they will either put in a proper bid, or he woud accept an offer from elsewhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,273 ✭✭✭davemckenna25

No, he wasn't there first choice. However we couldn't make him sign for another club while he wanted to wait and hope for Barcelona.

If that's not player power, what is it?

Why would you keep him? His value will go down by not playing this season if he stays and then he's into the last year of his contract so you'll never move him or he moves for peanuts.

At that stage you might as well work a loan that sees us get a decent fee when the transfer becomes permanent in 12 months.

Find it very hard to get remotely excited or positive about this season. I have feeling that we will carry on exactly from last season and be mid-table come October or November.

100% correct about forcing players to sign for any team offering but if Rashford dream move was Barca, had they signed Diaz or Williams then he would have know that the dream was dead. What we don't know is how he would have reacted, stay and just get a wage or look for a move elsewhere. Player power is what the culture has being at United recently and hopefully that is changing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,476 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Because loaning him or keeping him isn't much of a difference to us financially.

I'd keep him, and use him.

If you loan him he's into the same last year of his contract next summer anyway, so you sell him for peanuts then too? Just with the added benefit of showing the world you can be utterly played by Real Betis.

Ah come on, its only July. At least wait till end of August to lose that hope 😂

Serious question: Whats the point in encouraging other suitors if the player has decided the only club he wants to play for is Betis? Players are not indentured slaves, you can't move them on against their will.

Betis hold all the cards here. They can use their leverage to wait to the last minute and basically offer Utd a deal which either sees Antony stay at Betis on their terms (whether that's a loan or a cheap transfer) or return to Utd to sit the season out where he'll pick up his wages and stink the place out.

When push comes to shove Utd, like any other club, will do what's in their financial best interest and faced with a choice between spending £Xm in wages on a player they don't want Vs getting rid on whatever terms Betis are prepared to offer they'll accept the latter as its commercially the best option.

The idea of letting him rot in the reserves or whatever is for the birds, its an emotionally charged option which completely ignores the financial cost of doing so.

    Three problems with this statement:-

    1. Loaning him results in his wages (or a portion of his wages) being paid by Betis. That's a big difference Vs keeping him.
    2. If RA wanted to use him he wouldn't have been loaned to Betis and wouldn't be excluded from pre season etc. If he stays he's not going to be used other than maybe in the cups.
    3. Everyone already knows United have been played by every club and player agent for the last X years. Accepting the crap terms on offer from Betis now isn't being played by Betis, it's accepting commercial reality and cleaning up a mess that was made years ago. Although, having said that, it looks like Brentford played Utd fairly well in the Mbuemo transfer given how long it took and how they eventually got the £70m number they set out to achieve right at the start of negotiations.

It's pretty much expected that Betis will seek a loan for Antony late in the window and we should absolutely feck them off. Out of the outcasts, Antony is the only one who Amorim might keep because he works hard, albeit he's not the most intelligent of players. I still think he'd do well under Amorim and I'm genuinely not pushed if we can't sell him this window given there are bigger priorities in terms of players we need to move on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,658 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

And there's no point keeping him here if he's not going to offer us anything. Might as well loan him with an obligation to buy. If he stays he doesn't play. He's basically not allowed into Carrington ATM if the teams training there. He has to wait until 5pm to use the facilities. He already went on strike once to force a move. He'll never play for us again even if he's here come September.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,476 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

    1. I don't think the finances saved on the wages are signficant enough to make the deal worth taking, a second time around from the same club after they have played poor mouth and silly buggers for 2 months.
    2. He was being used right up to the point he was loaned out.
    3. I disagree. It is continuing to show that we will be bullied by clubs to get whatever deal they want on terms they want. The mbeumo deal another point against our attempt to build a better rep, just as a crap loan to betis would be.

And I am not saying I particularly want us to keep him, but I would consider it and accept that as a possible outcome of Betis not giving us a deal WE are happy with. And if we take Betis off the board cause they won't put an acceptable offer on the table, maybe Antony will accept a move eleswhere - so that we still make money or savings, while telling the likes of Betis that they don't get the leverage in these deals anymore.
