Holding a bookcase to the wall for security but avoiding drilling if possible

Hi,

There is a heavy bookcase I want to make sure it is secured. Do you have any idea what I can use?

If possible, I would like to avoid any drilling but if there is no way, I will.

Nothing other than drilling will provide actual security. Adhesives fail.

You will want to attach to studs rather than to plasterboard if it is an internal wall.

Does it have to be pretty? A couple of door wedges shoved in at the base perhaps? €2 each in Woodies.

Unless you have small kids who might try and climb it I wouldn't bother myself.

Secure it properly for the sake of it. A couple of holes in a wall can be easily repaired in the future. A child crushed under a toppled bookcase can't be.

that depends on what sort of wall it is, unfortunately. is it an internal stud wall; an external wall which could be internally insulated, etc…

Is your motivation for avoiding drilling to avoid damaging the wall?

Cause if it is, be aware that adhesives will probably make a much bigger mess of the wall when you come to remove the bookcase than a small hole will.

A small hole is very easy and cheap to fix.
