Well for the MAGA's it was surely 1950's?

Women knew and stayed in there place, you could hunt down African Americans for fun.

Sure it was woke since you couldn't own slaves anymore but 1950's would be a start.

There's a huge section of the US that have been deliberately left behind. I honestly feel sorry for them. The whole system is rigged against them.

When someone messes up your life, you look for someone to blame. There will always be people who believe it's a shadowy elite or migrants etc…. Ad so there will always be a market for that. It happens in every country. However in the US one of the two largest political parties is promoting it. Along with some very big news channels. And hundreds of millions of political ads on tv, social media, newspapers etc…

To use one of Trump's favourites, "they" will put part of the blame on him because of his TACO behaviour but will still admire him, idiosyncratic but fondly recalled. They'll ignore the millstone by recalling "the good old days" he convinced them he'd bring back.

There's another 4-letter political abbreviation sometimes used to describe people within/behind MAGA, which I would have thought people of a certain persuasion would have kicked up a storm about being linked to them but doesn't seem to have caused them to bat an eyelid while they promote the great plan of 2025.

Alan Dershowitz told Newsmax: Ghislaine Maxwell should be pardoned in return for an appearance on Capitol Hill, have Congress give her total immunity and reveal all she knows, that Maxwell is serving the sentence that Epstein would have gotten.

Given the fact that Dershowitz was both Epstein and Trump's lawyer, I'd have to ask him "come again, what's that you said"?.

Yet these are the same idiots who argue that billionaires should get tax cuts and believe in trickle down economics. In reality they're just bad minded dreamers who believe that someday they'll make it big and detest that anyone with work ethic could get ahead of them especially if they're foreigners.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,916 ✭✭✭threeball

There is an argument that they were well aware of his proclivities but he was an asset to them so chose to keep it under wraps. There are known cases of assets abusing kids as young as 2 yet they weren't prosecuted to protect the work these assets were involved in. This is America, the shining city on the hill is a myth. Nothing and nobody matters more than the shadows their intelligence services operate in.

That little piece of shite Dershowitz is an absolute slimeball. Every time I read or hear something about him my skin crawls.

Unless information she gives can be independently verified, I wouldn't trust a word - with so many amoral scumbags on both sides, could easily see the corrupt Trump administration saying we will pardon you if you say X.

I’m wondering is releasing Maxwell, or pardoning her in return for “cooperation” or whatever, is a bridge too far for even Trump.

I’m not actually sure it is- I doubt many Americans are as familiar with Maxwell as say UK Ireland are- I’m not sure they’d give as much of a sh1t as we’d think they would

That fact hasn’t and won’t change in the near future- but HOW you do it is likely to change.
Seasonal working visas for example- you come from Mexico for 3 month whatever season- you leave after 3 months - you come back later in the year for season 2- you leave again. In other words, provide jobs but not citizenship - and you apply for these jobs from your home country not in America

I think America has to balance a free for all on immigration and no immigrants - we’re in “no immigrants” land right now so something will have to change- but I don’t think anyone wants to see a return to how it was - even the Democrats - they know they’ll have to be stronger on immigration to win back seats

Ah totally - and we need to learn the lessons this side of the water around how not to do things

I think part of the problem for the US is the size of it. It's hard for a president or congress to have an impact in many part of the country. The bills the write have to be big in scope and can't address many local issues.

Plus it's driven by vested issues. There's a lot of money needed to be elected and a lot of money to be made. So their representatives tend to be indebted to interest groups or at the least afraid of them.

And even then, there's a lot of power devolved to states and local government.

Plus culture war issues are dominating the ballot. So people are voting along those lines instead of in their economic interests.

From Trump's lawsuit against the WSJ:

    Untitled Image

Are they…. are they trying to claim that 'exclusive' meant it should have only been read by one person, and then the WSJ sent it out to hundreds of millions of people?

Because he needs to keep control of the House/Senate next November..

Also the reason why they are talking about gerrymandering the hell out of Texas.

If the Democrats take the House and/or the Senate , they will block everything and crawl all over him with hearings

    Agreed,

If you look at all the polling lately around Trump - Immigration , economy etc. you see it's about 90-10 against for Democrats , 60:40 against for Independents but it's still about 85:15 in favour by Republicans.

He's holding on the GOP voters for now , if slipping , but everyone else is long gone.

…is how it reads.Maybe they are being deliberately disingenuous and are abusing the legal system for political purposes.

I think I heard they have a snowball's chance so this might seem performative and trying to discredit the article in the court of public opinion.

I've read that Bondi had around 1000 people go through the papers, meaning that there are now that many witnesses that are open to subpoena during the course of the litigation in relation to what they saw....

Trump's going to be going mad over the big candid Hunter Biden interview as Hunter fairly lays into him at various points.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,634 ✭✭✭ilkhanid

Exactly. After eight years of Trump's reign why isn't America Great? But it's power is that to a certain cohort of conspiraloons and fanatics that very failure is proof of the conspiracy. The reason we're not great is because "they" are thwarting us: the Dems, the marxists, the woke, the paedophiles, the Deep State, the globalists…etc etc. All authoritarian-tending administrations and regimes are obsessed with the enemy within just as much as, or even more than, the enemies without.

What makes it worse is that the perps will all be granted immunity/pardon, and they know it.

It appears to be sometime in the forties and fifties, between the end of the war and the advent of civil rights, beatniks and Elvis, a time when good christian men wore suits and trilby hats to work, when women wore flowery dresses and had the family dinner on the table at 6 pm, when big American cars ruled the highways and nobody ever heard of homosexuals or feminists and black people and hispanics and asians lived in the ghetto or the inner city where they needn't be seen and when organised crime was directed by the italians. An America where baseball was just as important as the commercialized american Football and where people flocked to the cinema to watch Grace Kelly and Jimmy Stewart and where the Hays Code ruled supreme. The USA of Norman Rockwell.

No country is ever great - someone/somewhere suffers for whatever makes that country perceive itself as great. Trump was, as always, using the vocabulary of 8 year old Americans to get his point across, and that's the intellectual level of the bulk of his 'base.' They're in it for the rage fix, unhappy with their lives and need someone to blame. Trump supplied that. Trump 2.0 is letting Project 2025 monetize it.

Has anyone watched this? This is scary. There are people within this group who glory in being extreme and proud to be identified as fascist. This is the mindset that Trump has brought in to the mainstream.

Mehdi is no stranger to heated debate, this shocked him.
