He wouln't be coming tojust sit on the bench though.
He would be coming to compete with Onana for the starting spot. If he is good enough, he will get it.

Lots of links in Portugal to a Gyokeres transfer but Simon Stone claims its being used to get Arsenal to hurry.

Which we've seen a million times before.

Wouldn’t want him anyway. On bad terms with his current club and wants to join someone else. We would be foolish to try and hijack that deal. Watkins makes sense and pray to all of the God’s that Højlund can become something in a few years.

Ya Watkins garnacho swap kinda psr fyckery would be a pretty good front 3 going into the season.

    Rashford in Barcelona...

Good bloody riddance. Fingers crossed he manages to muster up a bit of effort so they don't send him back.

Barca have no intention whatsoever of signing Rashy on a permanent deal!

He will be back with United next summer looking for another Loan deal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,015 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

Do we know what kind of loan deal it is, obligation to buy and not the farce we saw with the Chelsea deal with a get out clause of 5m?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,947 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Reported to have a €30m buy option, not obligation though so unlikely to be any penalties.

I have no optimism that they'll actually keep him tbh.

    ugh

I have no optimism that they'll actually keep him tbh.

Me either, would of been nice to get some money from his transfer this summer as we need every penny we get can get to strengthen.

Agreed. Rashford could bag 30 goals, sweep every trophy going, and they still wouldn’t sign him. They know exactly what they’re getting — a player with everything to prove, busting a gut all season with the carrot of a permanent move dangling in front of him. It’s a win-win. He improves them now, fills a gap, saves them a fortune on a big-name transfer, and they kick the can down the road until someone better comes along. The wages? They were spending that anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,947 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Well at least we're not subsidising his wages this time so that's a hefty saving this year. And most importantly were ridding ourselves of his self important attitude.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,350 ✭✭✭Caustic

If we are getting a fee which is what it is surely we should be putting a higher sell price on him god forbid he actually does something and they want to sign him.

Like I'm sure he will ride the bench most of the season but you never know with injuries

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,947 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

At the end of the day we hold feck all cards in this negotiation. The fact that we're not left carrying half of his wages is actually surprising.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,719 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

Getting rid of him is a huge boost to the squad.

If we were planning on him earning us big bucks to fund transfers it was never going to happen.

Stolen from reddit. How those stats stand to be true I've no idea

We seem to have a good relationship with Antwerp

More in a reply to the reddit post... It's a bit of a stretch to declare it as "proper scouting". Stats / data is so readily available that it's not hard to find "the best" stats-wise. Stats don't show his character, ability to handle pressure etc. And stats can be very misleading, there could be better keepers in his league who just don't have to face as many shots etc. For a keeper at a top team (which we only aspire to be these days), I would say that an ability to stay concentrated and pull off the saves when called upon / fairly infrequently, is key.

Not completely dismissing the stats, they are indeed positive, but they don't paint the full picture and if you were to assume that a keeper with the most saves in a league, is the best keeper, you would often be very wrong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,566 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

They used to be a sister club, officially, years ago. that is why so many United players went on loan there.

Think a few United coachces went over there for bits too.

We haven't had that relationship in years, and I would say anyone who was involved in it at the time would be long gone, from both clubs possibly. Not that it has an impact on a possible transfers, but I would doubt there is much between the clubs now; not like we have had a friendly or anything like that.

Agree completelely, and you also have to consider how a team plays and the impact that will have. A keeper might show up poorly on short passing, for example. But that could be because the manager tells the defenders to get to the half way line and the keeper to knock it long.

Was similar discussion on Delap not being much of a box presence (according to the stats) - but is that because Ipswich play counter football and don't maintain the ball in the final 3rd enough for a player to demonstrate box presence?

And we've (this thread) had this argument on Bruno for years. Is he an idiot who can only and immediatly look for a smashed through ball over the top or has he been told to find Rashford/Garancho/Hojlund on the run in quick transitions when we get the ball?

Speaking of Antwerp loanees, do any of you remember Ronnie Wallwork?

Ronnie Wallwork, a former Manchester United player, received a life ban from football in 1998 for assaulting a referee while on loan at Royal Antwerp in Belgium. This incident involved Wallwork allegedly grabbing the referee by the throat. The ban was later reduced to a three-year suspension, with two years suspended.

Could only imagine if that happened in this time of social media!

Agree. Very unlikely they will want him permanent. He was their 3rd choice after all, behind Williams and Luis Diaz. Realistically he is just a "back-up" signing.

Raphinha and Fermin Lopez both offering Flick fairly good options already in Rashford's favourite position on left side of the attack. He may end up more an option at No.9, to give some rotation options when Lewandowski is rested.

I'd far prefer to see us get a transfer fee for him but Villa prudently saw he wasn't worth the kind of $$ being discussed. Amorim just wants him out of sight before pre-season starts, which is understandable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,947 ✭✭✭adaminho

He's not like his teammate Phillip Mulryne who's now a Catholic priest in Kildare.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,069 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

I think he could do okay in Spain. The open style of play will suit him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,845 ✭✭✭AidoEirE

I agree 100%, always find stats like that can be skewed in whatever way for any position thats played. I've never heard or seen the lad play so have nothing to say good or bad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,783 ✭✭✭ericzeking

It's a double edged sword with 'MR10'…..if he flops, we can't sell him next year. If he does well, gets back in the England squad heading towards a World cup, Amorim will be pestered with questions about him and the circus continues.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,659 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

If Rashford does badly at Barca, it's annoying as makes it harder to sell him permanently.

If he does well at Barca, it's also sickening as he could do well at United if he just bothered his h0le.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,097 ✭✭✭El Gato De Negocios

Personally it wouldn't be sickening for me. We know what he can do but we also know his attitude absolutely stinks so the only thing i care about is getting him permanently off the books. He had a chance to be a club legend forever more, instead he will go into the same "what if" bucket as the likes of Morrison, Hargreaves or Greenwood.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,947 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

I just want him gone. Don't care if he succeeds elsewhere, he's made it perfectly clear that he'll never recover with us.

Does anyone know if Barca actually have the cash to complete Rashford's loan? Apparently, and according to the tabloids, Barca can't afford to register him yet until they sell some more of their VIP boxes.
