Yes. so by the letter of the law, correct decision.

But the rule should be updated for the modern game. it's not like it gave him some advantage.

Didn’t intentionally but ball moved. He would have to know it moved

    Anyone but Sheffler…

10 of Tiger's major victories were devoid of any drama whatever. He took a comfortable lead into the final round and never remotely looked like losing.

Don't get me wrong, he was an amazing player and what he was doing was incredibly difficult. But I always dreaded seeing Tiger hit the front in the second round. It took away all hope of an unpredictable and dramatic weekend.

I used to find it odd that the tv numbers were always so high for those procession type wins of Tiger's while way down for an exciting major where lots of players were in contention on the back nine on Sunday.

Scheffler only has 3 major wins so a long way to go to be compared with Tiger. He needs to stick around at the top for a good few more years to see what he can achieve. But there are huge similarities in the way he is starting to dominate and separate himself from the field.

I can see why some people might find him winning to be boring, lack of drama, etc. But I can't see how these people can't see that 2/3 of Tiger's major wins were exactly like this.

Tiger was so good that once he got a few strokes ahead he played extremely conservatively and kept everyone at arm's length. He would avoid using driver too much, hit the middle of every green, hole everything from about 10 feet in and it all looked utterly inevitable. Zero drama. He did all this without the slightest engagement with anyone on the course and his interviews before and after were utterly bland. He never said anything remotely interesting.

Tiger did also have five extremely dramatic major wins. These were a combination of someone actually matching him or else his own game wasn't quite at the same level as for his dominant wins. If Scheffler sticks around for the next 8-10 years, I'm sure he'll be involved in dramatic majors too.

Scheffler is without doubt the closest there has been to Tiger since he was at his peak. For me it's difficult to understand how anyone can dislike this and find it boring but not think the same about Tiger at his best.

I don’t understand how any true golf fan can find his golf boring, it’s scintillating. His approach play especially.

I guess the man himself is pretty much vanilla but so is 80% of the field.

Exactly. Not like the world of golf is full of great characters. Great golfers, but next to no characters any more.

Its gone the way of snooker. They are efficient machines now.

I don't find his golf boring. But his golf is so good it's making tournaments boring as nobody else is at his level.

It did. He made changes and made the weekend. As I said.

Although not having a great start today, OB on the 1st.

    Q from non golfer.

If Lowry had seen the ball move and called over the "ref", would he have had a chance to avoid the penalty?

Interesting to read people enjoy watching Scheffler when he is out front. I've yet to hear of a single person who thinks the same at my own club or people I play golf with.

He comes across as a gent both on and off the course but I find it boring to watch. No charisma or excitement watching and I'm fairly sure the viewing figures when he is at the front reflect the same.

Comparing him to Tiger when he was leading tournaments is farcical IMO.

It would still be a 1 stroke penalty instead of two and he would have to replace the ball on its original position.

Now the fact that it moved so slightly replacing it would have been a redundant process but one that would need to be done.

The only place an accidental stroke is not a penalty is on the tee before hitting or on the green.

I wonder are all players equally under the microscope when it comes to miniscule rule infractions.

Simon Harris is monitoring the situation...

Not sure how it could be farcical.

I've been watching professional golf on tv for years before Tiger. The way Tiger dominated for years and Scheffler has started to are almost identical.

As Rikand stated above, great golf by one player can make tournaments boring if nobody else is at his level.

From about 2000-2007, Tiger frequently ran away from the field playing incredibly controlled golf. He would shoot 66 by two putting the par 5s and maybe holing a couple of other mid range birdie putts. That was it, seldom any danger of a dropped shot.

The skill to be able to do that was incredible. But the drama was nil, the excitement nil and the outcome inevitable.

Tiger also gave nothing of himself on a personal level. He seldom smiled. I have no issue with that, he did what worked for him and gave him the best chance of winning. But I struggle to see what people think he did at his best that Scheffler is not providing now.

Full coverage of Shane today on Sky red button.

    Not the ideal start.

It’s the calling out it’s boring when he’s leading as he’ll win but same wouldn’t be said when eldrick was doing it. As said above when eldrick was winning he was someone who just keep the driver in the bag. It gave no engagement with the fans or media before, during or after a round. People were just in awe with his golf and didn’t care about the rest. His game was great and how we destroyed fields and won everything around him but after that he has awful for the game of golf because he gave nothing back

People complaining about big names not being on the leaderboard at the last major after a couple of rounds and now you've the no.1 golfer at the top of the leaderboard and still people are complaining.

Anything can happen in this with the weather, all it takes is one bad hole.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,509 ✭✭✭Trampas

What they mean is they want Rory and Shane top 2 and after that it’s an awful leaderboard

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,193 ✭✭✭hawaii501

Exactly!! Hopefully every major is as boring as I wouldn't be a fan or either :)

Some stupid **** shouted 'That's what she said' when Scheffler had just hit his opening tee off shot. Painful stuff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,557 ✭✭✭dublin49

typical BAD Lowry day.Misses early opportunities, fooks up a second shot to par 5 and has a 6,misses a few little ones and throws in a 7 to banish all hope.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,856 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Then "Rorys coming to get you".

If it was kids shouting youd maybe understand, but grown ass adults acting like children.
